Dammit. What crap timing for the H&R Block one. Where were you 3 to 6 months ago?

    • +2

It's smart timing for them. They want you to pay full price during tax time.

    • I haven't done my last year return yet. Not sure if H & R Block are good

      • Isn't there like a deadline for personal returns?

        • Not if you do it through an accountant

          • +1

@nix1016: You need to be registered with a tax agent by October 31 to take advantage of extended deadline otherwise you will be late even if lodging through a tax agent.

      • Same here, was going to get it done at a nearby accountant for $150 flat rate, but not sure if I should take up on this offer. I figure even with the $40 cashback, it'll probably still be more expensive at H&R Block.

Not sure if H & R Block are good

No they are not. You are better off doing it yourself than paying H&R Block. Also, they have no respect for your privacy. They will automatically distribute your contact details to advertisers (they call them partners) unless you explicitly ask them not to.

  • Well at least I can use this for my US tax…not so bad…

The H&R block is a tricky deal from a value perspective.

If your tax affairs are complex, you're best served not going to H&R block at all.

If your tax affairs are simple, it's unlikely H&R block will even charge you $120.

Im sure there's a sweet spot somewhere, but I reckon it'd be pretty narrow.

  • Targeted?

  • Does anyone know if you close your account/card if amex let you keep recent cashback credits which have already been credited to your account? Just wondering if I can use this offer if I plan to cancel my card at the end of Jan?

    • Yes but make sure that those credits have hit your card before you cancel it. You can also cancel your card (in general) up to a month AFTER the new year has started and expect to get your automatically charged yearly fee refunded.

I had to do this for my CBA Amex card last month.

      • Thanks for this danielh very helpful to know!
