ANZ Frequent Flyer Black: 75k Qantas Points & $200 Cash-Back on One Eligible Purchase within 3 Months ($425 First Year Fee)

70

I got this offer when I signed-in to ANZ internet banking. So this could be a targeted deal. However, the deal URL works even when not signed-in to ANZ internet banking, and I could not find anything which restricts this deal to existing ANZ customer.

  • ANZ Frequent Flyer Black card comes with two complimentary Qantas Club lounge invitations/year & complimentary insurance. First year fee after considering cash-back is $225.

  • They also have Frequent Flyer Platinum card with 65,000 bonus points with $295 annual fee and $150 back upon one eligible purchase within first three months. First year fee after considering cash-back is $145. https://www.anz.com.au/promo/personal/credit-cards/ib-freque…

This is my first deal, please correct me if I posted anything wrong.

    • Agree, only advantage with this deal is that it does not have any minimum spend criteria.

    Looks like a great deal.
Going to see if I can transfer over to it for sure.

  • It’s not really a deal when you have to pay $225 for 75k points.

And this promo has been going on for the last couple of months.

  • So 75k of Qantas Point worth more then $225 to make even with the annual fee?

Anyone got any advice for renewal vs new card options? I am almost one year into using this card so I am considering negotiating my renewal or moving over to a different QFF card.

    • You can earn way more points via new card signup. Suggest you to apply for other bank card when there is a signup offer with bonus point and no fee.

If you cancel your current card, you will become eligible for ANZ signup bonus in next 12/18 months. Or you can keep the current card if you negotiate good annual fee.

    • I was 9 or so months into the card and like it for the points earning and daily use.

Called up to cancel as there are other cards and they were just about to process the cancellation. Advised I had a flight booked and asked would i still be covered for travel insurance. They said no (of course) and offered to waive half of the fee to keep the card (credit $212 next week).
I reluctantly said yes as travel insurance for a month long trip is over $200 anyway.

They mentioned if I didn't spend anything after the annual fee they would most likely waive the other half if you want to keep the card or cancel.

Even if they don't waive the other 50% the earning potential and card has its benefits for another year.

This has some advantages - 80k velocity points, domestic return flight and 2 lounge passes. $225 annual fee offset by the flights and im in Perth so good value for me.

      • Note that ANZ considers Black Rewards and Frequent Flyer cards as two separate cards separate waiting periods. You should still be eligible for points if you had one in past 12/18 months, but applied for the other.

  • I've just signed up for the Frequent Flyer Platinum card with 65,000 bonus points with $295 annual fee and $150 back upon one eligible purchase within first three months.

Does the one eligible purchase have to be a minimum amount?

    • No.
