The Steam Winter Sale is now running until the 4th of January and quite a few games have been discounted.

You can also collect trading cards (up to a maximum of eight) by voting for the eight games in the Steam Awards as well as going through the Steam Discovery Queue (up to a maximum of three per day).
Note: There are scripts available on the internet that go through the discovery queue for you (Search "Auto Steam Discovery Queue" on Greasy Fork or the appropriate website that provides scripts compatible with your browser).

Additionally, you can collect in-game and community items by participating in the Extremely Cozy Cottage promotion by opening one door each day until the end of the sale.

Sell the trading cards, in-game and community items on the steam market to make some cash to purchase steam games.

Note: Only non-limited steam accounts can vote in the Steam Awards and open doors in the Extremely Cozy Cottage promotion.
