I've been using this for years and it's awesome. Worth every cent even at $5.99

    • +3

yup, i will always recommend this as the go to launcher

      • +2

I've liked Apex better simply because it was released a little bit earlier, and for a little while had more features.
It took Nova Launcher Prime about 6 months to catch up to Apex Launcher Pro in features, speed, and price.

….now, after like +4 years, I have no idea which is better.
Most people say Nova Prime, but those same people haven't even used Apex Pro.
And some others now recommend ActionLauncher instead of Nova Prime.

What launcher do you guys think is the best, and which ones have you tried?

        • +1

I did the same as you and went with Apex for years. Switched to Nova a few years back and much prefer it.

Unfortunately it's been so long that I can't actually remember why I preferred it…

          • @gilbarc: If you have both Apex Pro and Nova Prime, would you mind testing them?
I don't mind jumping ship/paying twice, but only if that means there are (noticeable) user improvements to be had.

Currently, the only thing stopping me from getting Action Launcher 5 (paid) are reports with many people saying there are weird bugs here and there. Besides that, it looks like a decently optimised App with even more features than Apex/Nova. I don't want to pirate it either, I rather support developers for their hard work.

          • +1

@gilbarc: I've pretty much tried every launcher out there, bit I always come back to Nova. The biggest difference between it and Apex is the way folders work. In Nova you can set a folder to display the first program in the list as the folder icon and the set it so that when you click on it, it runs that app. You can then set a gesture on it (I use swipe up) to open the folder.

        • I found apex slower with updates and it was buggy when Android versions were really new.

      • Who needs a launcher?

    • Same here, since the Galaxy S3. Love it!

    • Bought mine at $5.99 not even mad when its on sale.

    • +1 … I would pay $50+ for this app.

  • I had to stop using Nova because it causes issues with app switching in Android 9 on my Mate 10 Pro :(

    • +1

Downside of third party apps that can't integrate as well as stock. A lot of the animations present in Oxygen OS' stock launcher on my OnePlus can't be replicated in Nova.

      • what animations is that?

        • Transition with the app drawer. Not as fluid and doesn't act in the same way.

  • +2

Used Nova for years, but was running into some issues with my widgets. Did some research, and now happily on Evie - totally free too.

    • +1

Seems OK, but limited customisations compared to Nova

    Kids presents sorted

    • +12

      Don't spoil them too much.

  • Thanks! Finally upgraded to Prime.

  • +11

This is a good deal however i recommend the Microsoft launcher over Nova.

    It's also free

    • -5

      o.0

    • +5

Definately agree and it's free. Speed is amazing and has heaps of features and integration. It's very unique and to me it's not 'just another launcher'. Nova was my go-to before that as it is also alright.

      • Speed is amazing

        What is amazingly fast specifically?

I don't remember using a launcher that has any waiting for anything.

        • +4

          Animations are different between launchers

    • +2

I'm using this as well…mainly for the daily wallpaper and the calender glance view.

      • Have you tried using ChainFire's 500x Firepaper, and a Calendar Widget instead?

        • I also highly recommend Changer, if you have your own collection of wallpapers you want to rotate through.

          • @NiteMice: No doubt this simple feature is going to be introduced into an upcoming Pixel phone, launcher, and AOSP.

      • And also the double tap to turn off screen, sometimes the news (prefer Google news) and sometimes the qr/reverse image photo search.

    • +1

Agreed. Microsoft Launcher is incredible and free :)

  • One of the best, been used it for years.

  • Used it for years, but hyperion is better.

This + Google Opinion Rewards + 4 days of your time feeding BS to the app = Free Nova Launcher Prime

    • +1

I'm up to $30 :D Best time wasting app ever.

      • +1

I got up to $55ish, then the missus wanted to sign up for access to a pay-wall ladies fitness app. Worked out a way to use the credit to buy her 12 months access. I'm now back up to $28 credit from rewards.

        • I had about $60, but I used it together with some free months for a year of YouTube Premium.

  • Thanks Op. Don't use them but bought

    • -1

Ditto here. Have always wanted to give something back to the dev but the standard price is a little high when I don't really need any of the extras. This sale provides that opportunity…

      • Lol, $5.99 too high

  • Happily using Lean Launcher which is also free but this deal still gets a vote.

  • What makes this better than stock? I can do most of that on Samsung's launcher on the note 9.

    • +4

It's all customization. You can change icons, choose different animations and speeds, number of icons to display on screen, add swipe gestures on the home screen. If you like to change stuff its better, if you're happy with stock launcher there's no need for it

  • +2

Also 99c in the USA in USD. For once being Aussie pays off.

    • yes…that's great! :-D

  • Meh. Am I the only one that's fine with touchwiz on S8? They've made leaps and bounds in progress, I don't really notice any lag either even after more than a year

    • it's not only lag, but ability to optimize / customize it more.

if you use a black background, black theme (black icons), etc.
      you can save more battery.

you can do this with Samsung Galaxy store, but Nova is just leaner.

    • i was fine with TouchWiz on my S8 until i got Nova Launcher, Good Lock 2018, KLWP & Fluid Navigation Gestures….i used my sisters S8 the other day….so confused lol

  • The best launcher by far

  • Great launcher, but doesn't seem to get many updates these days. I still use it though, because I've got everything setup how I like, and I can't be bothered moving.

  • This has been the Goto for many tech heads for a while now but it seems a bit too much, I'm on Evie launcher and the alphabetical app list let's me find stuff instantly it's so good

    • i tried evie for a day……it wasnt too bad, but lack of Folders and Tabs lost me. Is it an option that i just missed? or is it not available via that launcher?

      • there are definitely folders just not in the app drawer i don't think, not sure what you means by tabs though

        • Ye sorry I meant through the app drawer.

Tabs are available through nova so currently I swipe to launch my app drawer, and then I have 3 tabs at the top (like Google chrome) main one holds all my apps, 2nd hold all my payment and money-related apps, 3rd holds my settings and other phone customisation-related apps

          • @ExtraSalt: ah ok yeah I can see the functionality in that, i'm always playing around with new apps though and haven't found anything else that lets you scroll alphabetically

  • First used (and bought) Nova for use on my HTC Wildfire S back in 2012. Has been my go-to launcher since then.

  • Is this better than Xiaomi A1's stock Android One launcher? How so?

    • I loved the stock Android launcher on my Nexus. I'd happily use it over Nova.

  • Is this good for an Android TV box? If not, which one is best for it?

  • Does this need phone to be rooted or anything like that ?
Also, I use a samsung s5 and now moving to samsung s7. Im reasonably happy with samsung galaxy android as-is .
What would be the main advantages of using this Nova ? ie. what would I be missing out on now, with stock Samsung Galaxy s7 launcher etc ?

  • I prefer Lawnchair as its free and does everything I need.
