AMR Ryzen 7 2700X CPU $399 + Delivery @ Shopping Express

190

First deal. Email from PCPartPicker last evening indicated a massive drop in price for the R7 2700x at Shopping Express's main store. Price is quite high on their eBay store though.

Not 100% sure when the deal started, but I believe it was sometime Friday.

Great price IMO. Perhaps because the new CPUs are coming out in 2-3 months?

  • Announcement at CES in early Jan. Wont get it till a few months later though

    • Yeah, I'm looking forward to the new chips. I hope my current B450 board will support the new chips and that the only feature I would be missing is PCI-E 4.0.

      • +1

pcie 4.0 isn't even needed, we can't even use half the bandwidth that pcie 3.0 x16 provides currently (hence why most cards work fine running in x8 mode)

the only thing you will want to make sure is whether the VRMs on your B450 are good enough for chips running higher core counts.

        • The one I bought was the MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC which "they say" has good VRMs. That's all I know. I have a NH-D15S + 3 front intake fans which should be providing ample VRM cooling.

I don't know if AMD would bring more than 8 cores to the mainstream though. That would be moving way too fast IMO. All I want is Intel like IPC & clock speeds for AMD like prices in the next gen. It would be a bonus if they can beat Intel across the board, but that probably is wishful thinking.

          • @nushydude: They plan for top tier to be 16 cores the Ryzen 7 and 5 will be 12 cores and the lowest tiers will be 6 cores according to the leaked specs and benchmarks. Also hitting about the 5ghz mark.

Yep this is what I’m doing. Could push prices down even further and the rumours of the new 3 series are promising!

      • Very promising performance and price wise. Itching to buy this though!

        • +1

I remain very skeptical of the rumours of 3000 series, its a bit too good to be true but we will see. In my opinion it doesn't make much business to devalue all ryzen 2000 series so much just 8months after it launched, especially with intels 7nm "apparently" on track and their foveros technology announcement they could do some pretty interesting things late 2019 / 2020 to come back.

          • @neferseki: So what you are saying is BUY THIS NOW! :D

@OzzyMozzy: I think what he is saying is a bit like NVidia with their graphic cards. The GTX 1080 Ti didn't drop through the floor when they released the 2000 series cards, instead making the 2000 series cards more expensive.

These prices are as good as it's goinh to get for the Ryzen 2nd gen CPU's & perhaps the Ryzen 3000 series will be quite expensive in comparison.

  • Just bought it for $422 two days ago, I skeptical ryzen 3000 will be out in January and need the PC immediately.

I also bought x470 motherboard to make sure it will be compatible with ryzen 3700x if the processor out and show significant performance jump.

    • Can I ask which board you got and are you happy? I was set on getting gigabyte aorus ultra gaming from new egg for around 180AUD delivered until I read the reviews there and on Amazon - loads of doas and failures a month or so in. I know the bias associated with reviews but I'm now thinking I'll get an msi 450 tomahawk for my 2700x locally for around the same money.

      Thanks

      • I got Asus ROG Strix X470-F for 287Aud, want aorus gaming 7 or 5 but one their nvme 2 slots not the new gen I read from review, I need both latest nvme. Strix have problem if you use 4 dimms slots, it will slow the memory, but 2 pieces of 16GB will sufficient for me until maybe 2020. So I choose Asus Strix.

        • Thanks.

  • Pretty good price. I paid the same for a second hand 8700k.

    • Yups, pretty satisfied, will upgrade if ryzen 3700x turns to be really good.
