50% off Le Creuset Cookware @ David Jones (Potential Price Error)

760

Le Creuset cookware at 50% off at David Jones online. Note that displayed prices are 30% off, but after you add to cart, it becomes 50%. This seems to only apply for cookware items and not accessories.

Le Creuset normally only goes to 30% off so this discount is quite huge.

Get additional 10% off on your final price via shopback.

Edit: Thanks Shanus. Seems like this is a price error based on the T&Cs. Fingers crossed they honor purchases.

T&C States: "SAVE 50% OFF THE #RRP ON COOKWARE. DISCOUNT APPLIED IN THE CART. Excludes Le Creuset & Solidteknics. Not available in conjunction with any other offer. While stocks last. Offer available until 30/12/2018."

How exactly is an iron pot worth $669 RRP?

    • +37

How are some iPhones worth more than $2,000. People value things differently and Le Creuset is sought after for their quality cast iron cookware.

      • +1

Tell me your not going around shopping centre and public places flashing your hot pot to everyone else.

        • +14

          Hopefully not your phone either.

          • +2

@ely: Sadly there are many knobs in society that do it.

            We live among sheep

      • Le Creuset is sought after for their quality cast iron cookware.

I don't disagree with your comment, but what exactly makes Le Creuset's quality better than the others? Do you know? Is it the paint? The no-rust? The weight?

I agree with @masster . Don't know what makes an iron pot worth $669.

        • +6

Appreciate that you're not giving smart arse comments like some others here, but don't really feel inclined to be typing out paragraphs of answers. If you're genuinely interested, just google cookware toxic chemicals and if le creuset is worth it and decide if it's worth your money. Everyone values things differently and I'm not that overly invested to contribute to debates on a bargain site.

          • +8

            @jlim87:

            just google cookware toxic chemicals

Just because it comes up on Google doesn't mean it's true.

            You can Google
            Vaccines toxic
            Planes toxic
            Broccoli toxic
            Le Creuset toxic

Cheap cookware isn't toxic and expensive cookware isn't free from being toxic

According to my Google search for
Le Creuset toxic "Mine tested poorly (lead and cadmium at high levels on the both the interior and exterior)"
            https://thenaturalbabymama.com/your-home/kitchen/cookware/le…

My point is just because it's in Google doesn't mean it's true and accurate.

Burning coal causes arsenic, boron, cadmium, chromium, cobalt, copper, lead, mercury, molybdenum, selenium, thallium and uranium to be released into the air which you then breathe.

Whatever transfers from your cookware to your food is minimal compared to what you are exposed to in your daily life.

            • @spaceflight: I don't disagree with your post but it's exactly my point of what I said. This is a bargain site and my interest goes as far as sharing and finding bargains and not reading through your links and debating for and against with strangers over the Internet over random things.

I also never said anything on Google is true. Assuming he wasn't trolling and was genuinely interested in why people invest in cookware, I was merely pointed him in that direction and pointing out the topics to look into.

iPhones have billions of dollars worth of microtechology and software RnD.

An iron pot has been something that could be made by the cavemen

        • +3

iPhones have billions of dollars worth of microtechology and software RnD.

          Apple spends billions on R&D.
They don't say how much they spend on the iPhone each year.

The R&D to remove the headphone jack was probably a few hundred million a few years ago, plus all the R&D needed to create a dongle would have added up.

Thanks to that great R&D I now need to carry spare dongles and can't charge my phone with headphones plugged in or when plugged into my car.

An iron pot has been something that could be made by the cavemen

In a usable shape? With an enamel glaze? With a non stick coating?

          • +1

@spaceflight: lol you must be dreaming if you think Apple hasn't spent double digit billions during the lifetime of their single most important product.

There's more R&D spent on their CPU alone than the entire iron pot lineup.

I don't disagree that iphones are overpriced at 2k. But La Creuset at 50% is still overpriced, but if a brand new iPhone was ever 50% off at David Jones there would be the single greatest rush in shopping history.

          • +1

@spaceflight: not to mention how many decades the pot will last you.

      • Le Creuset is so worth it. Lasts a lifetime rather a phone that costs $2000 and becomes obsolete after a year or two.

        • My $40 Huawei Y550 still going strong, and not to forget got $50 Vodafone sim :)

    • +5

People who buy these will tell you the brand name (and often how much they paid) because it's a status symbol. They're telling you "I'm rich, I'm important, I'm high status" through brand association. Retailers know this and take advantage by /pricing/ their goods much higher than they are /worth/.

It's no better than a $20 pan. Except you can't be "important" and "high status" with the same pans as a common pleb, so the status-seekers will make up spurious reasons why the $650 pan is better and they "need it". These reasons are iffy at best, but it justifies to themselves the ridiculous price tag.

See also jewellery, phones, cars, etc.

      • +5

Status at 50% off for me as a common pleb means a lot :(

      • +12

To be up front: Le Creuset is a brand that owns me. They don’t make me feel important, but having grown up seeing them in French kitchens, they do make me feel cosmopolitan :) It is completely fair to say that my affection for them is that same that other people have for overpriced status items.

Having said that, they are better than the $20 pans. Probably not 20 - 40 times better but better. For example, the enamel doesn’t crack after 6 months. You can buy spare parts for them. They are well made pans - it is easy to buy 40 year old pans off eBay in very good condition. I like having pans that will last me out and that I am happy to repair. It is worth something to me to have pans that I don’t treat as a consumable item. Although some people buy them new - I buy them secondhand. I know that I’m paying for image, but in the scheme of things, pans you use every day and which actually keep their value well (check secondhand pans on eBay), well it could be a lot worse.

        • +2

Further to that, a lot of cookware leaches toxic chemicals. For something that's used every day, I'd rather pay a bit more now for cast iron cookware than dealing with Alzheimer's and other diseases later in life.

          • +7

@catinjapan: Yup. Most people don't realise this and prefer to give dumb comments cause think their $20 iron pot from Aldi was good for their wallet.

            • -1

@jlim87: And you surely can share some scientific proofs to confirm that 20$ pot from Aldi is definetelly give you an Alzheimer while $100500+ one is completelly safe.

Or we are talking about marketing crap people love to believe in?

              • @jellical: There's a blog post somewhere where someone did some test and sent in the pasta sauce they cooked in their le creuset to a lab, and when the results came back the levels of different metals was higher than expected.

So I believe neither are 100% safe, but I prefer buying pots that are made of sturdy quality that I know will last based from experience, and as I said before, people don't realise cookwares leach toxic metals. I don't need scientific proof that a le creuset pan isn't "no better than a $20 pan".

You've got some amazing reading skills to conclude that I was saying $20 Aldi pots are Alzheimer disease inducing pots.

      • +8

Le Creuset pans are made to last a lifetime; a $20 pan isn't.

      • +3

        It's no better than a $20 pan.

Cast iron cookware is completely different to a pan.

      • +4

You can question whether they are worth THAT much extra, but there is certainly a difference in quality to a cast iron pan bought for $20, I own both.
Is a $1000 bottle of wine worth THAT much extra than a $20 bottle? to some people yes, to others, all wine tastes the same.

      • They are status items here. In Europe they are much cheaper but still expensive by anyones standards. I have a big cast iron casserole dish as well as one from House and they are the same. Plus I've had other really expensive Le Creuset stuff likening roasting pans and baking trays and they were complete rubbish. I don't rate the brand at all.

    • +2

Sometimes, just sometimes you pay extra for extra quality that will last years to come.

    • +1

Dude, at least Cooking things get used. How many times do you wear a $5k dress?

  • Is the skillet worth the premium ? Over past deals from amazon/Aldi?

    • +9

Not replacing the skillet every 2 years, creating vast amounts of landfill. Buy one that’ll outlast yourself. Price is not the only consideration. Product lifespan and not being made of Chinese metals that can have god knows what in them, should also factor.

Great find OP - just proved the 50% off worked in cart.

  • +3

Details from the "special offer" page that this is working from:

SAVE 50% OFF THE #RRP ON COOKWARE. DISCOUNT APPLIED IN THE CART.
Excludes Le Creuset & Solidteknics. Not available in conjunction with any other offer. While stocks last. Offer available until 30/12/2018.

I sense some order cancellations incoming … Fingers crossed they honour it!

    • +1

Updated post with end date. So it seems it's a pricing error. Fingers crossed they honor it!

      • +1

Indeed. I placed an order anyway … Given DJ's history of cancelling orders I'm not hopeful, but, fingers crossed!

        • Just to share, I was worried it would get cancelled after reading further of DJ's online issues. There's a forum thread about DJ online and cancellations. I bought quite a couple of cookwares and some are gifts as well so I wanted this to go through. I went into store and just got them to honor the 50% discount while cancelled my online order ;)

Sharing steps taken for those who bought a couple of pans and want a better chance of getting them at these prices:-

          Steps:
          - Went into store, collected all my items and brought them to the counter and asked if I could change my order from "online delivery" to "in store pick up" since there was stock of the items that I purchased (Still on 30% in store). Lady said no but to speak to customer service dept while she held it for me at the counter.
          - Customer service said they can't do anything either since it's a different system but to ring up instead to fix it. Asked her for alternatives and she advised to make a purchase today, and just cancel my online order.
          - Went back to the counter lady and told her what customer service told me. Guilt tripped her that this is an inconvenience since my card would now have a double charge. Would she at least be able to honor the special online prices I got, then I showed her the email receipt.
          - She said no problems as they can manually price match and honor those prices.
          - win!

          • @jlim87:

Lucky. You got someone who didn't read the fine print and wasn't familiar with the 50% off cookware promotion which specifically excluded Le Creuset.

            • @kerfuffle: I think others would get success as well with this method as David Jones staff have the ability to charge a custom price if your able to produce a receipt. It's like price matching, but price matching to DJ online.

Even if they were aware of the t&c in store, from speaking to them it seems DJ online uses a separate inventory system do their attitude was like price matching it. They werent one bit surprised or curious when I said it was an online only deal, something I imagine could technically happens often. Good luck to anyone who tries this!

              • @jlim87: I know DJs staff have the ability to charge a custom price, as well as their price matching policy. I worked there until recently. But because I read the fine print, had you come to me, I wouldn't have sold your Le Creuset at 50% off. You and I both know that is a price error, so well done on getting the same price in store.

Yet another DJs Online error where IT can't program for shit …

  • I can't see 50% off after added into the cart. did they fix it?

    • Just tested, still works. It's not every item. Try adding a few things you want in and look in the shopping cart.

  • Being an enthusiastic home cook, i can vouch for their quality. The non stick coating is really good. Use them constantly everyday for a year and still looks great. Compared to other ones which were destroyed in less than 10 months

  • +2

While I agree Le Creuset cookware is overpriced you'll only buy once and enjoy for life,so when it's on sale go for it.I have their Pots and a Frypan that are 30 plus years old and as good as the day I bought them…and they're better quality than Aldi (yes I have both).Good buying here for the serious cook.

    • Are yours enameled cast iron? What type of frying pan?

      • I have the Stainless Steel uncoated one that's lasted years. Just difficult with it being susceptible to sticking

        • +1

If it's sticking the pan isn't hot enough.

    • 30 years ago they made pan with best quality and last decades. These days the companies are looking for maximising profit than making a pot that last. I will be happy to pay over $100 for a pot that last mire than 10 years, especially the non stick one. I have cast iron from Aldi. It cracked at the bottom in the first year. I am tempted to buy this One. But how is the price compared to 20%off 25% price slashed in Kitchen Warehouse?

  • If I use gift card to buy it, the shop back still give cash back?

    • I am not 100% but I believe for DJs it will still be paid as if it isn’t allowed they list it in their T&Cs DONT’S as “Use of Gift Cards (whether partially or fully).”
There is no such statement under their DJs promo :).

      • Can’t speak for ShopBack but I used gift cards with CASHREWARDS a few weeks ago and the purchased was logged with cashrewards

  • It’s not a price error. It states 50% off RRP

    • Price error because T&C states: "SAVE 50% OFF THE #RRP ON COOKWARE. DISCOUNT APPLIED IN THE CART. Excludes Le Creuset & Solidteknics. Not available in conjunction with any other offer. While stocks last. Offer available until 30/12/2018."

      • Ignore me. I misread

  • I think the DJ IT peeps are working at rectifying this. Adding to cart doesnt work and it specifically says 50% off cookware "Excludes Le Creuset & Solidteknics" at the bottom of checkout

edit: can add to cart now, but no auto 50% off for me

  • +2

Good price but still too expensive for my wallet

  • +1

its overpriced cookware guys, it gives it standard pricing with the discount. Their good quality but not fantastic OZB style bargains to be had with this

    • +10

Bargains are not determined by a fixed price, it's on an item-by-item basis. Anyone that has used their cookware will know this is a great buy for quality cookware.

      • +1

I have a full set of pots from this brand, just speaking from experience. The "discounted" price point is the same price point I've found other quality cookware.

        • +2

Fair enough. I agree in part - I wouldn't pay RRP, but 50% off plus Shopback 10% +/- discount gift cards definitely brings it below the price point which makes this a bargain.

  • Just bought a small 20cm egg fry pan - I'm moving out of home and I use the small size all the time.. Will see if it's a good buy and buy more later if/when its priced incorrectly again in the future haha…Seems like a bit of $$$ for a pan and I'm poor but hey yolo lol :P

    Thanks OP

    • +2

Not one of those people but I love my Staub.

Wtf - is there any reason why their iron pot cost $669?

Is it going to magically transform my el cheapo cream corn soup into lobster bisque?

Hello…it's a cast iron black enameled Heritage Sauteuse 28cm.Orange frying pan with a wooden handle. The only drawback is that you can't put it in the oven, but I have an American made 26cm.Lodge skillet for that purpose.Check out their products if you're serious about cast iron.
    Cheers

  • -3

Can anyone post the links to the ones with 50%? Cheers!

  • ok I get cook ware could have chemicals etc….what about $45 for a pepper grinder? How is it different with this brand? Im guessing the blades cut counter clockwise instead of clockwise?

    • I guess you could think of Le Creuset as the Apple of kitchenware. If you think their pepper grinders are pricey, wait until you see Peugeot's ones, which are even pricier (heard they're worth it though)

      • thanks. Just did some research, apparently peugeot's are guaranteed for life…

        • 30% off at the moment at DJs if you're in the market for one ;)

Also unlike Le Creuset, at least Peugeot actually come with salt and pepper.

Source: used to hang out in the kitchenware department at DJs a lot for work and had to get a lot of salt and pepper grinders - Cole and Mason is pretty popular as well

        • Wish they can offer that with their cars

      • We have the Peugeot Paris USelect pepper grinder. I would re recommend it.

  • All the actual pots gone?

    • try searching for "Cast Iron" - the brand search isn't pulling everything up

      • This trick works. But nothing can be added to the bag because it’s out of stock (feel free to prove me wrong)

  • I have used the over priced French pans
I have also used the near identical Aldi cast iron cook wear.
The only difference was the pricing, aldi being a fraction of the French.
Cast iron is cast iron, the cooking skills of the person using them is something money and brand names can't buy.
