NEW10

Had my eye out for a deal on a couple of these for a while to go with our two LG TVs.

Currently $888 at Harvey's, so I reckon this is deal worthy!

I had the SK5Y. Was a terrible soundbar. The overall volume was lower than the TV and Bass was the same. I return it back to Harvey Norman due to a new issue the subwoofer was dropping in and out. The salesman recommend the JBL Bar 3.1 and wow what what a difference. It was an extra $225 but well worth it. Ive had 2 other LG soundbars in the last and theg have been good but the latest series seems to have gone backwards.

    • Hmmm, got me thinking now… What TV are you using the JBL with?

I really like that the LG gear all works so nicely together

      • Hey mate,

I have an LG OLED C7. This is the reason I went with LG so it would work together which it did use LG Optical Sync. The sound was really disappointing as I would prefer to stay with the same brands.

I have the JBL connected via HDMI using ARC to control it and it works perfectly. The soundbar turns on and off with the TV and the volume is controlled with the TV remote. The only time I need to use the JBL remote is when you need to change the Bass levels or sound modes which is a rare occurrence for me anyways.

        • I have the SJ5 and though the power is there at high volumes, but the sound quality is not good. These are mass produced speakers with a new model coming out every year so they are not refined enough in acoustics. I would look into something like sonos beam or the bose soundbar 500 in this price range for a better quality sound. If you just want something cheap which rattles the room at high volumes, these would do the job.

        • Thanks for this, definitely rethinking now.

Our LG TVs are older than your one, about 10 and 6 years old, both do Simplink and are CEC compliant. If I use the optical in from the TV will the JBL still function the same way with respect to power on and off?

          I might research a bit longer… Thanks guys…

          • @unrealshots: You can program the JBL to work woth any remote. You can teach it the signal of your current remote so it will work with power off volume up amd down.

I ThinQ SK8Y is a silly name for a soundbar.
