      More and more commonly the USB interfaces directly to the drive and there is no intermediate SATA interface. Cost saving measure.

        Thats only being adopted for 2.5" drives only though? 3.5" is still unchanged I'm sure.

          No, this is a trend for all external disks, especially if the vendor is a large disk manufacturer like Seagate, WD or Samsung. Less electronics and makes it harder for casing manufacturers to compete. I expect the next step will be to integrate the network interface and you have a NAS on a drive.

      Samsung HD103SI = 1TB EcoGreen F2 = Sata 3

      Have not opened it but there is a small "window" thatI can look into. Inside is a circuit board at the rear that appears to be plugged into the SATA ports at the back end of the 3.5" drive.

    Mine arrived already. Haven't really had time to use it.

    It is reported to Windows as a "Samsung HD 103SI USB device"… Cannot see an way of opening it without breaking the warranty seal (and why bother anyway, it's only a 1TB inside).

    The power supply is a small plug pack, not a cumbersome thing inline with a power lead.

        Shipped by Startrack Express. I ordered Sunday night 6.27pm. They printed the shipping docket at 8.28pm on Tuesday 12th and it arrived at my office in North Sydney on Wednesday some time (I was interstate at the time).

        I bought 2 - There was another docket under my door mat at home - they will not leave it without a signature.

      yep, but it will only work at USB2.0 speeds

      yes but you will get faster UBB2.0 speeds due to better controller.

      Or is that for the port or the hard drive? I'm not too sure :(

    keep trying - i tried when this was first posted and despite the website saying 1+ in stock, kept telling me out of stock.
    i gave them a call and was told they were getting more from their suppliers, and to try again later.
    finally managed to get one yesterday, and arrived today.
    hopefully they'll get more in stock shortly.
