Prior to buying any water filter system (for long run), I highly recommend purchasing a water testing kit to see if you really do need one. Especially if you own your place, it's worth checking the quality of water. You might find that you don't need to spend $$$ on filters at all.

According to the WHO standards the water here is manufactured to a high standard and is perfectly safe to drink, it just tastes awful. That's why I use filters.

      • +1

Yep exactly. I'm one of those people that can taste the yucky chlorine that doesn't seem to bother others. I started with bottles water and have moved to brita filters. Filling a pitcher and letting the chroline dissipate was getting annoying especially since we go through (well I) a few brita pitchers (1.25L) of water daily.

I travel a lot and melbourne water is the most drinkable in the world. Unfortunately the Cl and our aging pipes give it a funny taste which is why I use the brita filters also.

Do you find as the little bars actually run out with time the water actually does start to taste different?

        • After seven bars (reset then three) i can taste the difference

    • Any recommendations on what water testing kit brand to buy? Googling doesn’t seem to reveal a straight cut answer to a specific brand…

We have only used once in the past at a rental apartment. Water tasted bad and dirt would build up around water bottle and at the bottom of jugs within days. We tried Safe Home® “PREMIUM”. Water quality was indeed poor (not toxic) due to really old water pipes in the building.

        • Thanks mate! Will look into it.

      • I'd also be keen to know of any recommendations for brands or kits readily available?

Still doesn't match Target's own branded filters at $15 for a 3-pack, which fit any jug that takes the Brita Maxtra filter. I'm not able to tell the difference between them. YMMV

Does this one fit the new version of Brita Maxtea filter? I found it is a bit tricky to buy water filters..

      • I want to know as well

Thanks op! I always miss out on the Big-W sale.. This combo seems to be the best value :) I love the new jug as we don't need to re-fill it as often… Holds alot more water.

  • $35.31 with staff discount and e gift card discount from cashrewards.

  • wonder if amazon will match.

    • Doesn't appear that Amazon AU stocks Brita Products, only available through third party seller on the site.

These are not maxtra + btw

    • On the site it doesn't specify. But I bought 3 boxes in-store and they are the Maxtra+.

Other states, take cue! You won't need these if you live in Brisbane.

    shots fired, hides

I am not sure about Brisbane but the water on the Gold Coast tastes awful. If I lived there I would definitely get this.

Bought them in store at Underwood QLD. There were still some left. The stickers on shelves are not updated, but the discount does apply. Was able to get the Plus version, not the standard.

  • Ditched the whole Brita filter system and moved to a Reverse Osmosis system late last year. Similar cost annually. TDS of Perth scheme water was around 400. Brita filter took it down to 340. RO dropped that to 18, after re-mineraliser, TDS is 40. The water now tastes a whole lot better and waste ratio is approx 1.2:1

    • I’ve been contemplating the same. What setup did you go with and did you get it professionally installed?

  • also costco has a current sale of 8 pack for $53.99 if you want to get these from costco if you have membership or near by one too

    • 6.74875 each makes it cheaper than this. However all the traffic and travel not sure if worth it.

Target one looks appealing if it's a direct replacement for the same thing as brita maxtra+

Anyone can confirm it surely works and fit? Don't wanna waste $15

  • Dumb question - what's the difference between Maxtra+ filters and standard Maxtra?
    Are they interchangeable?

    • Straight from Brita Australia - Yes the Maxtra Plus filters fit all the same jugs as the Maxtra filters and are new and improved so are more efficient.
      Must be better then :)

      • Standard Maxtra filters will not fit in a jug that was made for Maxtra+, they're straight angled while the latter have a bit of a taper.

Source: look at the pictures, and I tried in my Maxtra+ Jug with a genuine Maxtra filter given by a friend.

  • The link seems to go to a six pack of ordinary maxtra, not maxtra+.

Other boxes of cartridges are labeled as plus and seem to have sloping sides. These have straight sides.

Fine if you have an older jug, but I don't think they'll fit the newer plus jugs.

Online doesn't show the +, but in-store is definitely +.

It's 30% off all Brita products.

      • +1

Quite true - I was wrong - thank you. I just picked up the pack I ordered online and it's +. Stupid Big W.

  • Bought 8x filters bundle from Costco for $54 instead
