Free: St John Ambulance Click-to-Save Online First Aid Course with Certificate

4520

It has been 12 months since this was posted so just a reminder for those who didn't know it was available or to refresh your First Aid Certificate. It is a very important skill to have and if this helps save just one life, then the course has done it's job. This first aid course will provide you with an essential reference to help to identify the first aid appropriate in an emergency.

Quick and easy to do. Just register, do the course and exam. You can even print out your certificate if that tickles your fancy!

Please note that this isn't a replacement for the accredited course you need for certain occupations, but is a tool to help everyone being able to possibly save a life in the case of emergency. In the event of an emergency, always make sure someone calls '000' as well.

Thanks OP for the reminder , will do the refresh First Aid Course.

  • Is this nationally recognised or not? thanks!

"Please note that this isn't a replacement for the accredited course you need for certain occupations, ".
It is, however, recognised by anyone still breathing because you finished the course.

If you do need an accredited course, it would be a good idea to do this before that one, as it will cover most of what you need, let you know what has changes since the last one [e.g., if CPR is now done to the rythm of "Let it go", advice for jelly-fish sting treatment!!!], and will mean you are already primed for the certificate course.

        First I was afraid, I was petrified…

CPR is now done to the rythm of "Let it go"

        Let… what go? :-|

        • James Bay's or Disney's?

BeeGee's Staying Alive is more appropriate :P

Pessimists used "Another one bites the dust". When an instructer had the new-beut sensor+tablet monitor, I found I'd been ~ 10% slow…

  • So after completing this, can I put on my resume that I have a "First Aid Certificate"??

    • +1

There are different certificates required for different jobs. The main ones people get are:

      HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
HLTAID002 Provide basic emergency life support
      HLTAID003 Provide first aid

      • So is this one of the above???

        • I doubt it

          No

    Upvote for saving lives!

  • I try to carry a Bic biro around so that I can quickly do a Tracheostomy if my Heimlich manoeuvre fails to stop peeps from choking

    • +4

When I got my First Aid Cert a few years ago, they told us that the Heimlich isn't used anymore as it is much more practical to clench your fist and beat downwards on the persons back.

If anyone is interested you can also volunteer for your local St John Ambulance and receive not only a free first aid course but further life-saving skills. Many different positions are available and I suggest you take a look at your local page :)

    • Do they have age restriction re who can volunteer for them?

      • +1

Yes, I can't speak for every state but in WA Cadet first aiders need to be 16 years of age and receive appropriate training and modified duties. As far as upper age limit I believe there is currently none but you would need to be capable of certain task eg 2 minutes CPR.

    • Thanks for that info NandO. Never thought of that option.

I did the full first aid course several years ago when my husband had heart problems. As he has not had another attack, I've become complacent. Never a good idea.

FYI, many workplaces are looking for more first-aiders. Approach your boss/supervisor/hr and suggest you are interested and it's very likely they will pay for and send you on the full course. This is what I did, for my own/family/friends/colleagues benefit and my workplace was more than happy to oblige.

Thanks OP, any training is better than none.

    thanks OP.

  • If anyone is located between the south west suburbs of Bris, out to Toowoomba, and needs a course, drop me a line. It’s what I do for a living. One on one, small groups, large groups. 😄

Oh and Baby Shark is another good beat to use for compressions….but please don’t stop pushing just so you can do the actions !!!!

  • Hmm. I wasn't able to get the certificate after completing the exam. The whole thing just resets, so I want through the course again, passed the exam, but still no certificate.

Edit: Was able to get the certificate by doing the exam in InPrivate mode with all add-ons disabled.

  • OOps wrong post!
