New Scientist Magazine Subscription 10 Weeks for $20

1090

Usually $8.74 per issue for print & digital or $6.74 per issue for print only (in a six month subscription). I think to buy it in the newsagent it's around $10 from memory.

For ten weeks only, but since you can set your subscription in the future you could probably buy several and stagger them to get a continuous super cheap subscription. If anyone manages to do that, please share!

I'm not sure when the promotion ends but I know it will - took advantage of a similar offer year before last as a gift.

Digital subscription over 12 months (51 issues) available for about $2.76 per copy on zinio. I know it's more expensive than the deal but it's over a longer period.

Above deal results in a recurring 3 monthly subscription for $120 every three months unless you cancel.

    • $156.07 for 51 issues. So about $3.06 per issue, no? Unless you're buying in USD somehow and it comes in cheaper that way?

      • Not sure If I am missing something though I tried to subscribe via the above deal and it didn't allow me to choose a future date and says $120 per 3 months after 10 weeks. So it comes to $8.09 per issue for 47 issues.
While @newxr deal is $156.07 US / $216.58 AUD i.e. $4.24 per issue still cheaper.

Can someone suggest if my calculations are correct or I am missing something?

When I click my deal it's $99.99 USD for 51 issues. Make sure you go to the US store not the Australian store

          • @newxr: Do you use VPN?

            • @[Deactivated]: No. Use desktop site and option to use the US store is near the bottom of the page.

They must be losing money at $2 per mag. Feel bad but wouldn't mind this for $2 a pop.

    • Doesn't it feature more pages that are ads rather than editorial content though?

      • There's very few ads in the magazine from memory

      • Cannnnnot be worse than bodybuilding mags. Worse than every 2nd page, in sections. I once cut the double-sided ads out, it was crazy what was left.

But my laymen's understanding of the traditional model, is that ads cover costs, and subscriptions is profit.

Bodybuilding/Men's fitness mags are funny, always following a fairly similar pattern.

MULTI ORGASMIC SEX AT THE DROP OF A HAT
THE PROTEIN PACKED POWER MEALS TO BOOST YOUR TESTOSTERONE
FIVE JACKED EXERCISES THAT WILL TURN YOU FROM WIMP TO WARRIOR

Thanks OP. Really great deal. I had a subscription to this last year and actually prompted some investments. Considering this is properly evaluated and published, this is an absolute bargain. At the very least you will learn a LOT that you didn't know you needed to know. Cannot recommend enough, especially at this price.

I was stunned by the price of New Scientist when I moved here from the UK. It was 2 or 3 times the price at the time. Then I noticed that it was also about half as thick, but that's mainly because there are so few adverts in the Australian version. Job adverts take up loads of pages in the UK version.

    • +3

That would make sense. Australia has no need for scientists cos we're already 'the clever country'…apparently.

Tempted! Can I cancel the subscription before the discounted 10 weeks ends?

  • +3

This magazine relevant to average Joe with interest in science, but not actually in the field or even remotely related?

    • Yep definitely.

Check the link above to see if you free access via your local library

  • Auto-renewing subscription: When your discounted 10 weeks for AU$20.00 ends, your subscription will continue and the standard subscription rate of AU$120.00 will be taken from your credit/debit card every 3 months thereafter. You can change your billing preferences at any time by contacting customer service.
Prices are inclusive of any applicable taxes.

Has anyone bought it? - Can you see the date you'll be charged?

  • Typical sign up for cheap rate and unless you cancel via the difficult cancellation method we'll charge you a lot of money.

    • +1

What is so difficult about it? Just pay via PayPal and then cancel the subscription.

      • Did you cancel through PayPal itself?

  • I can't get I into my account to check right now, but isn't New Scientist included in the free RB Digital app for public libraries for those who live in council areas that have it? I know Popular Mechanics definitely is. Just can't remember off the top of my head

    • +1
