Earn 20,000 Bonus Velocity Points by Taking out a Virgin Comprehensive Car Insurance

340

So i was shopping around for car insurance and came across this. The quote i got is a fair bit cheaper than my renewal notice and only $9 more than the cheapest so essentially i am paying $9 for 20k points. Auto & General is the underwriter - i have dealt with them through budget direct before and claim came through quickly without issue. Hope this helps someone out there.

  • Insurance not available in Northern Territory

    Dang

  • I did a quote but couldn’t work out how much it insurered me for or how to do agreed value. Anyone have any luck? It looked like a policy for someone of the new generation who doesn’t care for the details, but I could be wrong

    • Keep going until the very end - you'll be able to choose how much you want to be insured for.

      • I also cannot see the agreed value, i'm at the end of the quote and can't click through anymore.
I've requested a callback to see what the agreed value is..

        • Have you gotten to the page where you get to choose to reduce the windscreen excess to $40? Agreed value/market value is on the same page. This is done just before you punch in your credit card details.

@tzd116: I've got the summary page where i can adjust excess etc, but i only have the 'Buy By Phone' option, which could be the difference. I do have a 4WD with modifications so maybe that's why its required by phone and not online.

        • Not directly related but I had a similar experience when renewing with Bingle. No Agreed value option offered. Similarly budget direct offered only a fixed $ figure even when I selected Agreed value.

          • @randombrick: Virgin just gave me the exact same fixed $ agreed value as Budget Direct

Previously got quotes for 2 different cars over the past year, hoping to get a good deal and velocity points… was hundreds of dollars more than the cheapest provider for similar cover.

in fact Auto & General is probably the worst to deal with

    • Yeah i must say i haven't dealt with too many of them (and i hope this continues) so i don't know how they compare but the one time i made a claim for my windscreen, they were easy to deal with and claim came through quickly.

is there anything stopping someone from just doing a dummy policy to get the points?

Try get it down to like $10 a month haha

If it can be done, this will be like this deal all over again!

Look who posted that deal lol

        • Lol i must say i wasn't really paying attention to the name of the poster but damn it i should have known! well done about that post though - i got my whole family to sign up!!

    • Seems they have a minimum fee of $302/yr ($151/6 months). Seeing as you can quit after 6 months and get the 20,000 points, that is a good idea for them.

  • Bought the Comprehensive car insurance from Virgin Money back to the end of Nov, but has not got the points yet. Don't know who long has to wait.

Per T&Cs - the policy holder will be entitled to 5,000 Velocity Points if the insurance is held for more than 65 days (credited to the eligible Velocity Account up to 90 days after the policy has been purchased); the policy holder will be entitled to the remaining 15,000 Bonus Velocity Points if the policy is still active 6 months after purchase (credited to the eligible Velocity Account up to 10 months after the policy was purchased).

      • Thank you. It seems a long time wait.

Does this represent good value for 20k points if I don't have a car?!

  • What can 20k points get you ?

    • It is impossible to properly answer your question without writing an essay but here's what you can do/get with 20k points:
      - $100 gift cards (i think? Someone please correct me - i am not sure because this is something i'll never do)
      - $250 - if you sell it at a conservative rate of 1.25 cent per point (this is against velocity t&cs but a lot of people have bought and sold points without having too much issue so far)
      - $??? - approximately 2 to 3 syd-melb flights
      - $??? - you can collect a bit more and use it for business class redemption
Guys, please feel free to add to this…

      • Excellent - that represents pretty good value then !

      • how do you sell velocity points ?

    • Do your research on Point Hacks or similar

  • Just hold the policy for 6 months.

  • Vehicle is age restricted to the point where I cannot get a quote :| I feel so young!

  • 'The BMW has an age restriction of 30 years old'

I guess they don't want my money.

You would think if a car can survive 30 years it's a good bet to insure it!
