Useful tool, especially for someone who doesn't have a heap of tools. It can do a bit of everything. I don't use mine often as I have a lot of specialised tools, but I eventually find something that the Dremel is perfect for.

That annoying edge cut or trim, that circular saw and reciprocating saw just cant do.

      • I find the sanding bits quite useful as well, for digging out a fair bit of wood and being able to shape edges.

    • I bought one as I got it cheap, ages ago. Despite the description I still don't know what its for. It seems hopeless-sauce for the listed tasks.

Is anyone actually using this for paint removal (door frames seem too hard, plaster on walls too soft and prone to then being uneven)? Or grout removal?

      Serious question.

Anything that needs a little bit of scraping or sanding or hitting or cutting. As I said, it's the tool that does the thing that your other tools can't.

        • I'm not trying to troll, I read your comment and don't get it.

Like I said, wouldn't it be impossible to get paint off your doorframes or walls with this?

I have a dremel saw max for cutting, so I use that, or in fact my hand saw is usually better, but I don't quite get than an oscillating (instead of just spinning) tool is good for cutting?

Hitting - huh? Like a hammer? Surely it hasn't got the guts to do anything.

Scraping, sure. Guess I just never had to scrape anything.

          • +1

@justtoreply: Hitting was probably exaggerating the potential but you get the idea haha

The end of the blade is sharp so you can get into things, and the oscillation (ie side to side movement) slices. Think of it like an electric toothbrush equivalent of a small hand saw - you still need to push and move it, but the small movements allow it to cut very easily. A quick google had this as a pretty good guide: https://goo.gl/WB3jFW. 13 is scrape away gunk, which applies to paint as well.

      • Hospitals use them to remove casts.

    • I use mine to sharpen my chainsaw.

Edit: I have the rotary version.

    • I remember when I irst saw these type of multitools and thought they were just a gimmick… oh I was wrong. They rock.

This box-damaged corded Bosch sander seems to be a decent price too - $40 ex shipping. Same one is $99 at Home Hardware.

  • Its corded which is really annoying but I like the idea of it

Just be aware this is an Oscillating tool, not the rotary tool that Dremel is known for.

So don’t think this is a deal for a regular Dremel Rotary took, because it’s not. Still a good deal though!

    • I bought this and the rotary dremel. They have it at $93 which is a bit cheaper than other stores

You do realise that oscillating does the same as rotary but more!

  • Does anybody know if it can cut through nails?

Some reviews say you can but others say you shouldn’t.

    • +1

Depends on the bit used. I have the Bosch version of this tool and I love this tool.

It is fantastic at removing paint, sanding in odd places, I did interior stairs once.

Use it for cutting out powerpoints, enlarging existing holes, notching timber for floating flooring to fit.

If you are doing renovations this is one of the best tools you will use a lot as it will go into spots that other tools cannot.

      • Would you recommend the Bosch version? What's it called?

    • +1

I reckon you would just go through bits pretty quick. Angle grinder would get the job done pretty quickly, including the angle grinder bit on a regular Dremel.

      • You absolutely do go through some bits, however using an angle grinder indoors is not a great idea for me.

Nb. the bits for my Bosch are cheap on ebay.

The vacuum attachment in this Dremel pack looks very interesting!

Get the metal cutting bits, cut through framing nail with ease.

Was checking out some random Youtube video review and the guy cut through a nail

Please take note of this link and the comments. Apparently Bits are expensive to get.

As I said, I own the Bosch version and most cheap bits fit it, apparently this version does not, although an adaptor is available.
