  • Thanks OP! Do you know if I can/should stock up on these? ie. would they be "expired"?

    • +2

car wash wouldn't expire. but this stuff would be pretty bad on your paint. best use is for cleaning other things or using it as a lubricant for hoses.

      • cool thanks mate :)

      • I just started using this on my new Outlander - whats a good alternative?

          • @cheaponos: Cheers

          • @cheaponos: +1 for meguiar ultimate wash. I normally do a soak in the Chemtech CT18 using a high pressure hose then 5mins later rinse and two bucket system with meguiars and it comes up a treat

@AnneFagit: I wouldn't recommend CYT18 if your car has been waxed or sealed as the CT18 will strip it off. In fact, I wouldn't recommend CT18 for regular washing - it's like using dishwashing liquid to wash your hands instead of soft handwash. Great when you have a lot of grime you want to strip down but too harsh for everyday use.

FWIW I use Meguiars Gold Class.

              • @eciuj: Should be good if prepping for paint correction then?

            • @AnneFagit: ct-18 is good for when your car is muddy or really disgustingly dirty but not if its just a bit dirty. it strips the wax off your paint.

        • meguiars or bowdens own are the only brands i use. i've heard auto glym is also good.

It's not too bad. I use this on my car and Bike and it does ok.
I never believe in 2-in-1 wash and wax (Just like I don't believe in 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner) so don't think you won't need to wax the car afterwards.

It does smell nice and it foams well.

Would recommend a ceramic coating off eBay too for a similar price. That way you could use this and not wax the paintwork as frequently

        • I wouldn't get those ebay ceramic coatings. I'd use a ceramic based spray sealant like carpro reload/nova jet instead.

        • yep i would not recommend wash and wax either. your car doesn't need to be waxed every time you wash it.

In what way this is bad for the paint?

        • +1

usually with these cheap wash liquids they strip the top layer of your paint which is the wax and sealant sits so then contaminants can get into your paint and the clearcoat can start to peal away and ruin your paint, etc. its best to use a ph neutral wash.

          plenty of info here. https://www.meguiars.com.au/know-how/

          • @HKS: This one says ph neutral though

@gimme: I sometimes wonder if people are saying what other have told them, or from personal experience.

Used this, before poshing + waxing. Worked well.

Water still beading well after 6 months post wax work. Nice shine on the car as well.

              • @[Deactivated]: Yea I'm confused because I bought this last time it was on Ozb and some ppl were positive abt it. I used it with no issues. I guess it's relative. I just do a quick wash every few weeks and wax once a year while others are talking about bucket regiments and a 24 step plan. Horses for courses I guess.

                • @gimme: Mine is a monthly wash (car rarely driven and kept in garage).

Polishing and waxing every 3-6 months depending on weather and usage.

                  All worked well.

                • @gimme: i dont do 24 step plans. i just like having my paintwork looking great without spending 5hrs detailing. i use quality washes to help this plus after washes to make it shine, etc.

  • Thanks, stocked up as cheap body wash. Now I'll smell like bubble gum.

  • I am after a car battery.
Is their SCA battery any good? There is no reviews on their website.
Would they fit it for free?

  • Can someone critique my plan?

I'm thinking of washing the car every month, using megs wash and wax (wax to protect against the sun).

But every two weeks (between the megs ultimate), I want to just use megs gold class or some other ph neutral carwash in a foam cannon to "quickly" wash the car and rinse off with a hose afterwards to keep it looking clean.

    i.e.
fortnight 1 - full wash using 2 bucket method, megs wash and wax
fortnight 2 - megs gold class in foam cannon and rinse
fortnight 3 - full wash using 2 bucket method, megs wash and wax
fortnight 4 - megs gold class in foam cannon and rinse

    Thoughts?

Monty’s going for the 2019 equivalent of when can I afford a car wash financially

      • +1

Haha didn't realise there was a thread on this, cheers!

For quick interim washes, I just go down to the car wash and use high pressure soap then high pressure rinse. I usually only spend $3 or $4 so I figure it's not worth bothering to connect up my domestic pressure washer (cost savings would be negligible). I can take all the time I like at home but the pressure is a lot higher at the car wash.

    • +1

To be honest, I just wash when it needs a wash.

The two methods you have stated are for different 'soil' levels - foam and rinse will only remove light dust and will be more apparent on the top half (bonnet, roof) of the car more than the bottom. A full 2 bucket wash is the only way you will get an actual clean car.

So if your car is already fairly dirty from the last 2 bucket wash in 2 weeks, a foam will not make that much of a difference and you might as well not bother until you have time to do another 2 bucket wash. You could only get away with foam-only washes in the summer months with a garaged car IMO.

  • Anyone use this with their cheapie Gerni pressure washer that came with the soap canister nozzle attachment thing? Used it to wash my car recently and I suppose I'm wondering how much was due to this wash 'n' wax and how much was just from using high pressure sprayer in the first place (only got the 100.3 or whatever it is).

Those comments above about it stripping paint or whatever other protective layers is a little concerning …

    • I have. Those soap sprayers are useless. Unless you're washing twice a week, dirt needs to be agitated. Just use a sponge. It's not going to strip the paint.

  • heya guys CT-18 is on sale too $22 bucks for 5 liters no badd

Bought 3 for $6.97 pickup (with free $10 credit for $5 membership).
