    Something about band 28?

Also it was $0.10c cheaper six months ago for five minutes in one store only, once you used cash rewards and stacked gift cards 5x deep

        in one store only

        Just like this deal then.

I was thinking about that phone until found that it won't receive an upgrade for Android Pie.
Now waiting for something affordable. Missed the deal for Nokia 7.1 at Christmas. Hoping for Australia Day Sale

  • I still love these phones for non-technical users. Recommend them for many family members, particularly those who prefer 16:9 to the new super-long phones.

I had one of these till it stopped working a few months back. I picked it up for about $280 over a year ago, which was an OK deal back then, but I probably wouldn't buy it now for $244. The camera is average at best and the software is unlikely to see any major updates again. For a little more, you can get a lot more.

    • the firmware on mine got updated in December to 8.1.0. just saying.

      • So its just one update behind, congrats!

        • But that's what most mobile makers are like. If you're on a Pixel, you get the latest updates and patches. Anyone else is one update behind. But it's nice to see big names like Samsung trying harder to keep up with the release cycle.

          • @BadGiraffe: nokia are good on updates now …..our 6.1 and 7 plus went to pie last year …..

            • @garage sale: They're one of the very few. They're really sticking to the Android One philosophy. Xiaomi been so-so with their Mi A1 and A2. Still good though.

              • @BadGiraffe: we had an A1 which we replaces with the nokia 6.1, cracked screen on A1,so,figured great time to get a phone with band 28 and nfc rather than fix the A1 .

the android one concept is great, wish more manufacturers had android one models, but then the problem for them is competing on just hardware pricing i’f the software is the same.

                • @garage sale: Yup. Which is why at the start everyone had their own Android flavour.

The way I see it, if all manufacturers had stock Android with a custom launcher, but gave you the option to switch to stock, that would be fantastic. Then all the manufacturers need to do is update their own launcher and apps, and have Google handle the Android updates themselves.

                  One can dream.

Doing better that my S9+ on 8.0.0!

      • Yeah, but it took forever to arrive and it's the last update it will ever see.

    • I wanna know what you can get a lot more of for a little more?

      • Phones around $300 grey imports, do you research properly, many.

      • Well that all depends on what you need in a phone and how much more you're willing to spend. But I'd be looking for something with better storage, processing power, RAM and future OS updates.

As for specific phones: The Nokia 7.1 was $399 on sale recently - I'd say it would be worth the extra $$$. Or if you're willing to go grey market and lose NFC theres the Mi A2 for $320 via Kogan (cheaper elsewhere) or you could stump up a bit more for the Poco F1. There's also a tonne of Honor, Huawei, OPPO phones that are quite competitive in this price bracket and are a lot younger (in terms of release date).

        • I bought mi a2 (eBay $285) and I must say it's a great phone.

      • nokia 6.1 was $317 at office works in december and that is an android one phone, is on pie, has band 28 and nfc.

Bargain! Dual Sim. Pity no Pie.

  • I have a spigen case for this phone if anyone wants it! Free if you pick it up from Coolangatta or spring Hill!

Thanks for the pics and post. South Melb Officeworks price matched QV. Moto G's have served my relatives very nicely for years. No-brainer getting another one.
