Hi OzBargain,

I am Aidan from SimsDirect, thanks for checking out our deal :)

We are offering 200 Discount Codes for our New Zealand SIM card range, exclusively to OzBargain for the next 72 hours.

Before we jump into the details I want to quickly share some highs and lows Mac and I experienced in 2018, but if you don’t have time to read, it’s all good, just scroll down to ‘The Deal’ :)

Some Highlights this year:

  • Moved into our first office in Sydney
  • Employed our first team member
  • Received 900+ 5 star reviews
  • Built a website from scratch with no real web experience
  • Helped over 12,000 Aussies travel connected from February to December
  • Learned a tonne about our customers!

Although we experienced some unbelievable highs in 2018, it also came with an equal amount stressful lows that really challenged us.

Most of those challenges were because of ourselves. Almost all of the challenges we faced have been because of our own mistakes and inexperience. There have been customers we’ve let down, there have been emotional ups and downs and there have been many times where its all felt like too much to handle!

This has really taken both of us out of our comfort zones and has ultimately led to so much growth for the both of us. So again, thank you everyone for an amazing 2018. All of this wasn’t achievable without the feedback (both good and bad) from you guys.

We have some big goals for SimsDirect in 2019 and I hope to be able to continue being apart of the OzBargain community along the way!

Thanks for reading and now onto the deal!

-Aidan

I will be free to answer any questions guys, so fire away with any questions you have :)

P.S I didn't really mention it in the post but the discount code will work on the 2.5GB version of this product here.

    • Perfect - the 2.5GB is all I need!

      • Awesome! Thanks for the support and business shuffle! :)

        -Aidan

    • How does this compare with Voda's mates prepay ($29 for 3 gb) or voda myflex (flexibility to do whatever gb I prefer. for eg $23 for 2gb). ? couldnt i just buy vodas myflex at airport?

      • +3

        Hey Thenarrator,

There are plenty of options to go with. Simply go with whatever suits you best.

These SIMs are pretty good value for money in terms of $ per GB ($3.60 per GB of data) so that might be a good way to judge it.

Also yes, you can get these SIMs, Vodafone SIMs, Spark SIMs + Many more at the airport or local convenience stores when you land. The benefit of buying with us is that we deliver it to you before you go so you dont even have to bother when you land (avoid the stress when you land) and you are supporting an Aussie business!

But again, it's all up to what you need.

Hope this answers your question :)

        -Aidan

        • just testing ya responses to critique

  • Will 2Degrees have better coverage than Vodafone?

    • Hey Mikokik5!

Depending on where you go on New Zealand they're pretty much on par, where abouts are you heading?

We can check 2degrees coverage map and the Vodafone coverage map

      -Aidan

    • +1

No. 2Degrees is the 3rd best network. While 2Degrees roams to Vodafone 3G for areas where it doesn't have its own coverage but the data speed is much slower than Vodafone customers.

2Degrees only has native 4G coverage in population centres or certain tourist hotspots.

      • Thanks for the info Strayfire! :)

    • +1

I just got back from NZ after picking up one of these sims in the last deal.

My missus had a Voda sim and had heaps better coverage outside of the cities. My 2Degrees sim barely got any coverage outside of towns whereas she had it pretty much everywhere with Vodafone.

      • Hey Oneup,

Thanks for the feedback on your experience, I appreciate you taking the time to give some info.

This is some great feedback as I didn't realise how different the coverage would be in remote areas but I guess it makes sense as 2degres jumps onto Voda's network once you get further away from main cities. I assume that Vodafone preserves their high-quality network for themselves and gives 'piggybackers' less priority.

Any towns in specific that you struggled with? Would be great for us to know for future customers.

        Cheers,
        -Aidan

        • Hey,

I had no issue within towns, but rather the drive between them. We drove from Christchurch to Queenstown and I had virtually no reception between Christchurch and Wanaka, apart from Tekapo and a couple smaller towns.

I still found the sim useful, and it was a great deal.

          Cheers

  • Hi
Do you have any Europe travel sims? When will they go on sale? Thanks!

      Hey bschick7!

We're looking to do a Europe deal within the next week or so, follow us here on OZB to be notified once the deal goes live :)

      -Aidan

  • Hey guys,

    USA and USA/Canada deals??

    • +2

I just returned from NZ on Sunday after 3 weeks touring and used these Sim Cards for myself, wife and 2 tennagers which we purchased from an earlier Ozbargin deal and can honestly say that set up is so easy takes 30 seconds and you're good to go.We travelled right around NZ from the Bay Of Islands right down to Dunedin and has no dramas at all.At this price you cant go wrong

    • +1

      Hey Kiwi!!

Glad you had an awesome experience with the cards my man! Really appreciate the feedback :)

      -Aidan

      • No problem at all Aidan.I like to pay a compliment when I'm happy with the service I received

    • +2

Ditto for me. Just under 3 weeks, mostly central Nth Is. No dramas.

Need one for Japan in April…

  • Hi rep,
    Any deal for europe? Thanks

    • +2

      Hey Markymark!

Should be doing Europe deal next within the next week. Subscribe to us here on OZB to be notified once the deal goes live! :)

      -Aidan

  • Hi rep, if I ordered one tonight would I get it in time (in Sydney) if I was leaving Monday morning?

    • Hey kezorama,

I would recommend express postage in your case. Registered postage can sometimes take a few more days than Australia Post say it will.

Express is very reliable and is usually at your door the following day.

If you ordered today, the latest it would be is Friday before COB.

      -Aidan

  • Thanks just got one :)

    • Aweosme! Thanks for your business silentstorm117!

      -Aidan

  • Ordered a 2.5GB SIM for $21.75. 👍🏼

    • Thanks so much locotus :) We appreciate your order!

Reach out if you need anything from us.

      -Aidan

  • Any deal on Thailand Sims coming up rep? Thank you!

    • Not any time soon adzzz, we don't have any great value SIMs for Thailand just yet as local options are very cheap.

      -Aidan

  • Hi Rep. Thanks just ordered the 2.5gb. Great timing. Going there soon. 👍

    • Legend! Thanks Gutsa :)

  • Unfortunately for you, you are 2 days late with your offer. I bought 2.5Gb Sim from your competitor who offered the same 25% discount when I contacted them.

    • +3

No worries bob! As long as you have a SIM for your travels and it works out smoothly for you then fair dinkum.

      Have a great trip!

      -Aidan

  • Do they offer eSim? Might be tempting for iPhone XS owners

    • +1

I've done a quick look on 2Degrees website and haven't seen anything.

I also found an article here that touches abit more on it.

      Hope that clears it up.

      -Aidan

  • Guys could you please get me a good deal on a sim for japan for feb 2019?

    • We may have a Japan deal on the way, might be a week or so away so you may not see a deal from us before you go.

You can also keep an eye on NorthSIM who have deals for Japan SIM cards on OzBargain.

He's doing a great job so check out his products too.

      Hope that helps!

      -Aidan

  • Finally someone doing a competitive deal for overseas Sims!

    • Glad we could help! Let me know if you need anything else :)

      -Aidan

  • +1

Any plans to stock the 1.25GB SIM?

    • No plans to stock that SIM.

Sometimes offering more choices can make it confusing for customers when they land on our website so we try to keep it simple and put energy into finding new products for new countries.

      Sorry I can't help!

      -Aidan

  • Can the sim be activated in OZ before leaving for NZ?

    • Hey Watson,

No, the SIM needs to be activated in New Zealand when you land. The SIM card needs to be able to connect to the NZ networks to activate. So that's why it doesn't work in Oz.

      -Aidan

  • Flying out tomorrow morning. Any chance of pick up in Sydney?

    • +2

      Hey Amos,

Sorry my man, we can't do a pickup for you. We are super busy at the moment coming into the new year and its hard to organise pickups for customers from our office.

We are considering moving offices soon and having pickups available so it might be something for the future.

I would just look for these SIMs (or Spark) when you land if you are looking for a similar product.

      Best of luck!

      -Aidan

  • This is a good deal. I paid close to $40 for a local sim with similar data

    • Thanks for your input :)

      -Aidan

  • Fantastic, I've got a trip to NZ coming up. Normally I just buy a SIM locally but it's nice having one in advance.

    • +1

Thanks for the purchase yaziyo, just reach out to us if you need a hand with anything :)

      -Aidan

  • Thanks guys, grabbed 2x 2.5gb sims for later this month!

    • Legend! Thanks for the purchase :)

      Have a great trip!

      -Aidan

  • Any Europe promo coming soon? travelling to Europe next month. Thanks.

    • Hi Eggtarteater,

We will have a Europe SIM coming soon (probably in the next few weeks).

Keep an eye out on Ozbargain for it :)

      -Aidan

  • Ordered! Great service so far.

    • Thanks mattpred! Reach out if you need anything from us :)

      -Aidan

  • I have used the 2.5GB sim when I was in NZ for 17 days recently. The setup was a bliss, no drama at all. The only area where the internet connection and reception was patchy was when I was in Te Henga. Depending on your use, personally 2.5GB was okay but I had to be mindful of the use and make use of my relatives' WiFi. Anyway, I would recommend!

    • Hi Gorzy,

Thanks so much for your feedback! I'm glad it worked out well for you :)

Hopefully next time you go we can get you a deal on our 10GB SIM so you don't have to worry about usage ;)

      -Aidan

  • So Vodafone has since 2016 offered free roaming to NZ (instead of their $5/day global roaming) which of course comes to an end on February 8, 30 days before I land. Bah humbug. Looks like I'm buying one of these.

    • Well I'm glad we were here for backup! Thanks for your order Hinee :)

      -Aidan

      • That sounded ungrateful - $21.75 is a bargain thanks Aidan.

  • Does this (both the 2.5GB and 10GB) support the free data hour (unlimited data for an hour every day - https://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/data-hour/ )?
