Great performance router from Asus, cheapest ever on Ozb I think

I bought one at full price yesterday at MSY before finding out about this deal :(
Hopefully someone else gets to benefit from this deal

*One thing I wanted to note was OZB auto-filled the Alternative Store as PC Byte - not sure why unless they are one and the same with Tech Mall

  • I have one of these. Very happy with it especially now I have NBN. Handles all my IOT devices and laptops/tablets/game consoles without a hitch.

  • bought this from an earlier posted ebay deal sold by 5star-team and I think it was a refurbished unit as it didnt come with a proper retail box.

Happy with the unit but after 5 months, suddenly the 2.4Ghz network just wasn't broadcasting at all and with it being refurbished, Asus AU didn't want anything to do with it and had to go back to the original seller.

    • What's the coverage like?

    • Within the first month or so, mine was on the fritz and needed to be reset often to actually work. Not long after that before the 5g stopped working at all and it wouldn’t even work as a modem only (connected via bridge mode to an old router I had). Currently in the process of a return to the retailer. Asus weren’t helpful, either. I’ve gone back to using my old Belong modem I had since I had adsl2+ and it works far better than this “superior” NBN modem router.

  • How is the coverage? Is it ok for a 2 story house?
    This or orbi?

    • +1

Orbi will kill this for coverage as it'll have multiple units.

No single router can handle my double story townhouse.

I was looking for a new Router but decided to wait for proper AX wi-fi router with wpa3.

    • How long does it take to see proper AX routers in the market? I guess it'll be at least a couple of years and also when devices that can use this tech will hit the market?
So, would this router be reasonably ok for the next say 5 years?

      • This router is definitely worth the money for 5yrs of usage, assuming it will last the distance.
AX routers are already on the market but are still ridiculously expensive plus the lack of compatible devices doesn't make it worthwhile.

  • Great router… When it works.

Asus networking gear leaves alot to be desired now.

  • I've had mine for under a week and so far so good (3-storey townhouse)

    • 5Ghz band works brilliantly, signal is strong throughout the house
    • Zero dropouts so far; my experience is only based on times between 6pm-11pm when I'm home from work

Bought OEM version off ebay with 5% off for ~$250 posted.
Mine came with an Australian adaptor despite the ad showing US adaptor.
    Works great after installing Merlin.
    WTFast works for one account.

    • What is meant by OEM VERSION ?

      • +1

basically same as grey import. e.g. might not come with au plug and will have eu/us/asia firmware

        • Thanks. But we can change the firmware ryt ?
