One of your reviewers claimed that he received the package opened and tested?

Why is that necessary if it is already unlocked?

Arrived very promptly, unlocked and obviously new as described.

The packaging had been opened and the phone tested (3 missed calls from the sales office number) and the device had the sales guy's name in itunes. No big deal, but might be nice to note in the sales description that they are tested before being sent.

Overall happy with my purchase, Thanks.

That post has now been edited, so makes them seem more dishonest by trying to hide it.

      • Did they re-edit again?
As I see the same as mediam0de quoted

        • yep, back to original review… strange.

    • the review has been edited, the phone test part is removed!

      • The review is exactly as mediam0de quoted. I see no evidence it was edited.

        • it WAS edited, but since we pointed it out, the OP quickly put it back!

      • So really in other words its not a new phone. "tested" "played with" "used" same thing

  • Yeah, that's pretty suspect.

  • " Officially unlocked"

probably why the phone has been opened and tested

    • As the phone needs to be connected to itunes to unlock the phone that would be why it has been opened/used.

I would be happy if the store had done this as it means there is no chance of me getting the phone and finding it is locked as there is a problem with apple allowing the phone to be unlocked.

      • I bought my iphone 3GS directly from Apple Store in chadstone and they asked if I wanted to register the iphone myself at home using itunes or they can do it for me via itunes at their store. There was no unlocking at all because it is already unlocked.

I would think that the seller would ask first before opening since it could be a present to someone else? Or at least inform the buyer that they are buying stock that has been opened for unlocking.

But still I cannot understand why they need to do that when the buyer can do it themselves. And wouldn't the warranty begin once the phone has been connected on itunes? Apple would pick up the registration would it not?

According to apple the warranty begins from when you purchase the phone

iPhone comes with 90 days of complimentary technical support. In addition, your iPhone, its rechargeable battery, and all included accessories are covered against defects for a full year from the purchase date by a limited hardware warranty.

        • This was what I got after some searching. So it seems that it does not register via itunes.

          http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&geo=Austra…

Apple's Limited Warranty for iPhone begins on the date that the iPhone is originally purchased and covers the iPhone for one year from that date. To determine your warranty coverage, find your iPhone serial number and enter it in Apple's Check Your Service and Support Coverage tool. Apple may need to examine your proof-of-purchase document to verify your iPhone's warranty status.

Note: The service coverage information described at the Apple Support site is based on the date-of-purchase information available to Apple, depending on when or whether you registered your product or if you purchased it from an Apple Authorized Reseller. If you believe that the information is inaccurate, please update it by using the Apple Product Registration tool (may not be available in all languages).

I wouldn't trust a company that edits its customer reviews. The reviews are the only thing keeping them honest.

As for the reason why it was opened and itune'd, they should specify that on the product description, not call it "officially" unlocked.
