Free Replacement Green Bags ("Bag for Good" Brand) @ Woolworths

4350

6 months into the removal of so-called 'single-use' plastic bags (I never used them only once…), the handle tore off one of my Woolies "Bag for Good" green bags. Yes, I overloaded it. Yes, I'll probably do it again sometime.

As I was throwing it away, I saw the below text, emblazoned on the side of the bag:
"Use this bag again and again. If it gets damaged, we'll replace it for free."

In all the months of using it, I'd never noticed this!! Guessing others out there will be the same, so am sharing to save fellow OzB'ers who might've been in my same boat. And, for the naysayers who say it's not a deal.. I think it is - it saved me 100%!

The Woolies site has more info (see link in post):

Introducing the Bag for good™.
We’ve launched a new reusable bag in our stores called the Bag for good™. It’s yours to use again and again, and if it ever gets damaged, we’ll replace it for free no matter when you bought it from us. Simply bring your damaged bag to the Customer Service desk in any of our stores and we’ll swap it for a new one. We’ll even recycle your old one so it can keep doing good.

Sorry to spoil the fun but the writing is only on one side of the bag.

      • Tear 1 bag into 2 through the writing side, so that each half has some writing, to get 2 replacement bags??

Now if only Coles did it for the many free bags they offered for some time :-)

So technically this deal is targeted for those who've bought the bag in the past?

    • or have stolen the bag(s), i.e taken bag(s), did not scan at checkout.

    How is this a bargain?
You have to buy the bag you begin with.
None of my reusable bags have gotten destroyed from wear and tear.
Surely it's better if they are made to last than get replaced.

    • Try buying some (Coles) pre-packed fresh meat products; mince, snags, chicken as I found those sharp edges tear the Coles bag quite easily.

It is bad that the supermarkets make crappy bags that tear quite easily when this move is supposed to be for the environment.

Can they replace the single use plastic bags we still have ?

  • Does anybody know if you can recycle the 15c bags in the Woolworths/Coles bag recycling bins?

If you have too many bags at home, you can place your extra bags in "Borrow a Bag" stands at some Woolies stores (seen at Plumpton and Beercroft). Other customers can then borrow those bags.

You can also recycle the bags in RedCycle bins at several Woolies stores (they're near the checkouts) or other locations https://www.redcycle.net.au/where-to-redcycle/

      • Thanks!

    • You can recycle any soft ("scrunchable") plastic in the plastic bins at Woolworths/Coles. They show it on the containers too. No excuse for people to send them to land fill (except for the plastic bags used to contain rubbish)

      • Thanks for your reply.

  • I went home and cut my bag and took it in to confirm it'd work.

      What a pointless errand.

  • Lol people getting excited over plastic bags. Been using the csnvass type ryobi set I got for free from some home show for over 8 years and never had to replace.

  • I was nice to the delivery driver and he gave me a $1 refund for returning my re-usable bags, but I never returned them! Pretty cool guy, must 've been an Ozbargainer too

  • Does this apply to both the 99 cent cloth like ones and also the 15 cent plastic ones?

  • Anyone had any luck with replacing the older black cloth bags with the new green one?
