  • Hm how’s the performance vs the V10 I wonder… Still looking for the V10 Absolute international edition for that torque drive (removes 25% more dust due to motorised)…

    EDIT: Some quick stats
    Dyson V8 Standard = 120 Air Watts
Dyson V8 Carbon Fibre = 155 Air Watts
    Dyson V10 Absolute = 150 Air Watts
    Dyson DC65 = 245 Air Watts

TL;DR the Carbon Fibre V8 seems comparable to Australian editions of V10?!

    • Apparently it charges quicker than a V8 absolute (~3 vs 5hr)

      • apparently v8 absolute is lithium-ion and v8 carbon fibre is Nickel-Cobalt-Aluminium (according to the Dyson AU and Malaysia websites).

        • "Nickel Cobalt Aluminium" is a type of lithium-ion battery.
Are you sure they are not talking about the same thing just with different terms? (markets)
          https://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/types_of_lithium…

          Copied from link:
"Lithium Nickel Cobalt Aluminum Oxide (LiNiCoAlO2)
Lithium nickel cobalt aluminum oxide battery, or NCA, has been around since 1999 for special applications. It shares similarities with NMC by offering high specific energy, reasonably good specific power and a long life span. Less flattering are safety and cost. Figure 11 summarizes the six key characteristics. NCA is a further development of lithium nickel oxide; adding aluminum gives the chemistry greater stability."

          • @thebadmachine: diff types

            v6 is lith nic manganese

that Lithium Nickel Cobalt Aluminum Oxide , i assume is from Dyson's new electric car plant in Singapore.

    • Torque drive?

Dyson probably designed that years ago. They've really got planned obsolescence down-pat.

  • What the diff between this and V8 Absolute Plus?

    • 30% higher suction they claim

      • What’s out in terms of included accessories?

        • Accessories wise no difference when comparing the Absolute Plus against the Carbon Fibre (according to the Dyson AU and Malaysia websites)

          • @ccrap: Why is this cheaper than the absolute.

            • @ca6leguy: because carbon fibre was never launched in AU officially. It was meant to be for the SE Asia market to sit at a price point below the v10. Didn't come to AU as we seem to be happy to pay $999 for the v10 and they didnt want to cannibalise that given the v8 carbon fibre has higher air watts power than the v10!

  • looking at the ebay description I dont see the direct drive head mentioned whereas in the V8 & v10 absolute listings it is mentioned. The image shows 2 heads but thatd be a big risk if it didnt come with the direct drive head!

    • V10 comes with torque head not with direct drive

      • Apologies should of just said V8 Absolute. Comment still stands - its not clear if this deal includes the direct drive head. Images suggest yes, description is unclear.

    • Looks like that’s the catch. I can’t see any mention of it coming with a vacuum cleaner head at all, only the soft floor one.

    • If you we're going off the description only the V8 wouldn't even come with a charger ;)

      • +1

lol, exactly, great find, thanks OP, ordered one

  • +1

I think i'll risk it - i have the 30 day return protection so if it doesn't come with the direct drive head then i'll return it. At that price its worth the risk.

  • +3

Actually no risk - Dyson just confirmed :)

    Hi,

    Thank you for your inquiry.

We can confirm this machine does come with the Direct Driver Cleaner Head and the Soft Roller Cleaner head.

    We hope this helps.

    Kind regards,

    Bec

Rang Dyson just now and spoke with Sarah. I queried what the V8 Carbon Fibre was.

She looked at Dyson Website and then the eBay website and informed me the eBay listing was only the V8 Absolute+.

I queried extra suction - she said "sure" it certainly has extra suction compared to the V7 and earlier models.

Looking at the Malaysian site - they don't use the same description as Australia, ie. they have a V10 "FLUFFY" !! and they don't have a V8 Absolute - it appears the V8 Carbon Fibre in Malaysia is the V8 Absolute+ in Aust.

    • Bought one but thinking of cancelling the order because the listing is misleading if it is actually V8 Absolute+.
However, even if it's a V8 Absolute+ the price is good? Right?

    • So essentially, this is a parallel import?

    • If I navigate to the deal link now it says - The listing below has been updated by the seller, but you can see the item you purchased.

And the dyson ebay shop still has the V8 Carbon as the sale item on the front page but it now links to the V8 Absolute.

I'm ok if its the V8 Absolute Plus as thats what I was originally looking for a bargain on…if its not the Plus then I'll be complaining as it won't have all the extra connections that were listed on the Carbon Fibre ad.

      • It was probably a temporary glitch. I just checked the Dyson AU eBay page - it still shows the V8 CF, it still links to the V8 CF listing and the massive banner on eBay's homepage highlighting this deal also says V8 CF. The specifications in the item description also have the V8 CF specs.

If by some stretch they substitute with V8 ABS+ then no loss as the accessories kit is the same, just a slightly lower power unit. Having said that I already have a V8 ABS+ and only bought this because of the higher power in the V8 CF model.

    • +2

@rigram - don't worry - the Dyson 'experts' dont know what they are talking about. The first one I got said there was no power difference between the V8 ABS+ and the V8 CF. Then she said the eBay listing wasn't by Dyson and there was no warranty. Anyway eventually she escalated the call and I spoke to someone with sense who confirmed they are indeed seperate models and that they are covered by a Dyson 2 year warranty. He didn't know why it hasn't been marketed via other channels in Australia yet.

That naming theory isn't correct though, the V8 ABS+ exists and was sold in Malaysia previously. Also 'Fluffy' models have been sold in AU but not the V10 yet AFAIK. The V8 CF is definitely not the equivalent of the V8 ABS+, it's a different unit with higher power output.

  • Look at your purchase - it should be the V8 ABS+

The differences are visible by comparing these:

    https://shop.dyson.com.au/v8-absolute-plus-227265-01 ($799)

    https://shop.dyson.com.au/dyson-v8-absolute-164527-01 ($699)

In my original order it has a couple of extra crazy tools like: Up-top-adaptor, Tool Bag, and Mattress tool. Follow the link to original order and you should these as "What's in the Box" it's a good price for ABS +

    • Mate what are you talking about? I bought this and my order said (and still says) V8 CF not V8 ABS+. Also, both the CF and ABS+ come with the same 'extra crazy tools'.

See your link above for what comes with the ABS+ and see my dyson malaysia link above for what comes with the V8 CF. The accessories kit is identical :)

  • +1

Cheers OP, purchased, will see what turns up and if it's actually an improvement on the AB+ …

    • New message from: dyson_australia (5,099Green Star)
      Hi,

      Thank you for your inquiry.

This machine is very similar to the V8 Absolute, however it will charge faster and provided a little more power than the V8 Asbolute.

You will notice that this machine will come with a few more accessories than what is included with the V8 Absolute machine.

      We hope this helps.

  • Does it come with AU plug?

    • Finally bought it. 15% off new eBay plus + 15% off gift card brought down to $434. Not too bad.

      • Nice one, you won’t regret. Where did you get 15% off gift cards?

  • How has this deal not gotten more traction? Seems incredible really, based on the price of the V7 and V10, and the fact you can't get the V8 in Australia currently.

Does anyone have experience with the Dyson Ebay Store as far as aftermarket service goes?

    • It's because Carbon Fibre isn't a mainstream marketed model in AU so not much awareness. Those who know have picked up a brilliant deal.

Colleague purchased from the eBay Dyson store below - no difference in terms of warranty and after sales service - you just deal with Dyson AU as usual.

      • Great, thanks for that. Purchased!

I think the only thing I'm bracing for is the 7 minutes in Max mode(!) not being enough… if only it had an in-between normal and max mode… This is what is good about the Roidmi F8.

        • The 7 minutes turns out to be more than you think because the idea is you let go of the trigger when moving between areas so you’re not consuming power. I do a 3bdr apartment on single charge in max mode. After you’ve done it a few times you get a sense of how long the power will last.

  • +1

Thanks OP looks great bought with new ebay plus and 15pc gift cards

  • +1

This is really good if the Carbon Fibre is indeed an Absolute plus with the power of a V10!

This price would be decent even on the non Carbon Fibre version.

    Edit:

Compared to V8 Absolute, this is:
    - Much higher suction on max (even higher than V10)
    - V10's nickel cobalt aluminium battery which supposedly lasts forever
    - More accessories
    - Better head with carbon fibre brush
    - Lighter

    • Nice to know, thanks. Do not need the power yet (currently happy with V7).
But when I am I will remember to get the lighter weight V8 Carbon Fibre instead of the V10 (if they are still around).

Also battery technology seems to be improving. Nickel cobalt aluminium is also capable of charging faster than other lithium type batteries.
Batteries are a crutch as they have to be topped up regularly, looking forward to a future with efficient long lasting batteries in all products.

    • I got this because I decided the only difference worth holding out for a V10 Absolute was the 3rd power setting (and perhaps a bigger dust bin), and that was not worth the price premium.

      • A medium power setting would be ideal… Damn

    • The N-C-A battery doesn't last forever.

The first reference I looked up didn't even suggest it was above standard for lifespan.

      https://owlcation.com/stem/Comparing-6-Lithium-ion-Battery-T…

      • My bad, I think I read too much Dyson propaganda.

      • Regarding battery longevity, no battery can actually last forever (although future ones may come close).
But performance in the real world is also different to what the chemistry or predictions say.

From experience I can vouch for a battery that has lasted almost forever. It is inside an old Sony Walkman MP3 player (must be 10 years old now [released 2009]) I believe it is of lithium-polymer type.
The flash memory has started to become buggy, but the battery gives just as much playtime as it did years ago and charges fine.

  • Looking forward to hearing from anyone who has purchased what the actual shipped model was :)

    • +1

Mine arrived today and the box just says V8 carbon fibre
Comes with a lot of attachments!

      • When did you purchase it?

        • Tuesday.

          • @chookymcchook: Wow, I purchased it then too, but it's not coming until next week - I guess we must be in different locales

      • +1

Mine arrived Wednesday 23rd. It is 100% the v8 carbon fibre model with AU plug and AU serial number. The accessories are all identical to the v8 absolute+ model, which was the top of the line in the V8s. However, the power on max mode is more than the V10 in this model, which makes this the new top of the line V8, and arguably the entire dyson handstick lineup going by power output alone - mega happy with this purchase :)

  • Thoughts so far?

  • +1

Received the Carbon version, Pretty impressed with full power, tbh coming from a worn out DC59 it's a huge improvement, struggling to work out all the tools functions!

  • Received the V8 Carbon Fibre today.

The box says 'Carbon Fibre' on it, but a quick glance doesn't reveal this alleged upgrade anywhere else. For instance, the manual says that it takes 5 hours to the charge the V8. It doesn't say anywhere that there is any different battery technology. It simply says "Li-ion" 21.6 V 2800mAh 65 Wh.

Colour-wise it looks identical to the V8 Absolute Plus.

There are definitely heaps of attachments.

Can anyone shed some details on this?

EDIT: I haven't delved too deep into the manual, nor yet registered the product on the web so that the warranty is activated, but I'll keep going through to find out what's going on.

Seems I can't register the product on the AU website with the serial number listed on the bottom of the unit (where the battery is), says "Please enter a valid serial number (please make sure there are no spaces)"

    • Received my today too. Cannot register the product on the AU website. Contacted the seller with the problem. Worry about the warranty if cannot register.

      • I think I'll give them a call tomorrow - it has an Australian plug and all of the information on it points to it being an AU/NZ device - my serial number has an "AU" in it - I imagine they all would. It's probably that their database doesn't contain the V8 Carbon Fibre (or whatever this device is) as it's not really an official Australian release?

The seller is Dyson Australia, right?

        • +1

On mobile so keeping this brief:

          • Yes - seller is Dyson Australia
          • Yes - reason it doesn’t come up is because it was never officially marketed in Australia. Normal AU warranty applies. This isn’t a grey import, it has an AU serial number. If you want to register it contact Dyson Australia via their usual number and they will do it. Given the number of units sold in this deal they will eventually add this model and the serials to their database so it can be authenticated.
          • Yes - there are lots of attachments, in fact exactly the same as the V8 absolute plus model.
          • Yes - this model does have more power and its indicated on the box. Look at the silver serial number sticker on the box. It says 485W. On the Absolute plus box it says 425W.

Have a read of my other posts above, it covered most of this already, and holler if any other questions :) Enjoy your new vac!

          • @ccrap: Thanks for the summary - I am indeed enjoying my new vac! It's been - dare I say it? - fun to vacuum the house!

I guess this would go for any cordless vac, but it has been such a pleasure to just be able to pick it up and do the stairs or just walk around the house and do a couple of touch ups.

I was worried about the suction strength, but even on normal it has been more than enough

      • Received an email that shows the machine has been registered. But serial number is still invalid on dyson website.

        • I emailed customer support on [email protected] and they did it manually. Took 2 days to sort out
