[VIC] NetGear Orbi RBK23K 3 Pack $379.98 @ Costco Docklands (Membership Required)

100

Found these at Costco Docklands yesterday. A decent price for the 3 pack. I have the RBK30 with two satellites, can highly recommend this if you have WiFi coverage issues. Wish I had these over the satellites as all three base units have Ethernet ports.

RRP: $499, they are currently on sale at HN for $427, officeworks has matched them, while JB is selling them with a $50 discount at $449.

  • Does JB price match Costco?

    • Depends on the store/person. I was able to get a pair of Sony 1000XM3s priced matched at one JB store, but the first JB store I tried refused.

      • I also price matched those headphones with a picture from the store and my membership card

  • +2

These, in theory, are better than Google Wifi, but we had nothing but trouble with them sadly. Ended up returning them and getting Google Wifi instead. The trouble we had was devices getting confused about which satellite to connect to and so constantly getting random outages on laptops/phones as they moved through the house.

    • Same with me, had to return them, their support was terrible also

    • @toast76 how is the Google Wifi 3 pack? I was looking at these at Costco or the Google wifi - but waiting on another eBay sale

      • It works fairly well, but my gripe with it is each unit has only 2 ethernet ports, and also it doesn't support WPS, so you may have to type out a super long password.

If it's for a phone, you can text them the password. There are other ways to share the password but they require the internet, and if your device needs to access the internet in order to get the password, but needs the password to access the internet, you have a catch 22 and need to type out the password, which if it's a secure one will be a PITA.

      • Google Wifi has been ace. Easy to set up, the mobile app is easy. The lack of ethernet ports is a bit of an issue, but we piggy-backed a small router we already had off the one in the lounge and that's been fine. It's lacking in features/customizability compared to your typical wifi router… but that's to be expected for a consumer-friendly product. Speeds off the satellites aren't as fast as from the base station, but that is to be expected (is also what the Orbi was supposed to improve!), but from my office is totally fine.

    • I had this issue with an old desktop using an old USB wifi adaptor, but after upgrading the wifi adaptor to a Dual band one the problem went away. Haven’t noticed it with any of my phones or newer computers. Sometimes if I move while using the network I experience minor hiccups, but its not really an issue for me since stationary devices always connect to the closest satellite when woken up and stays connected (no disconnections or switching). I believe router/satellite placement also plays a major role. I have strategically placed the base and satellites far away from each other (but still close enough to get a good signal) and closer to where all the devices spend most of the time so they don’t get confused.

Haven’t used Google or any other true mesh system so can’t comment on those, but the RBK30 + two smaller satellites I have are worlds apart from the $150 D-Link DIR-865L Dual band AC router I had before. Now I get over 200Mbps LAN speeds between opposite ends of my house where I couldn’t even get a signal with the D-Link (mind you the DIR-865L was a pretty good router with good reviews when it came out). I also briefly had the chance to compare these against $400 Asus RT-AC86U, needless to say Orbi won hands down when it came to range. So IMO these are really good value for money at $379 for anyone looking for range.

  • Loads of devices, especially those that only operate on the 2.4ghz range have trouble knowing what to connect to as both bands share the same SSID. Having said that I’ve seen updates that address this issue for load of apps lately as well. I am very happy with my RBK50 base and satellite. It never misses a beat.

    • I had some issues with older usb wifi adapters. I think because they didn't support the "a" band. replacing them with duel band adapters has fixed my issues.

  • I bought the RBK23 from Officeworks a few weeks ago using price beat for Costco but the only difference I could find was the RBK23K advertise a larger coverage area but it seems all the specs are the same

  • I just bought these for my parents house which has always been a internet reception nightmare!
Now it’s amazing! Wifi in every room and better speeds than the original wifi modem it was connected to!
