Don't know why this hasn't yet been posted. Harry's icecream, comparable to Connoisseur, cheap again at $3.

Super yum, they all have extras inside.

- Peanut Butter Fudge with ribbons of peanut butter and fudge
- Triple Choc Brownie smooth chocolate ice cream with chewy chocolate brownie and rich chocolate sauce

container looks nice, how's the icecream? anyone tried?

    • +14

So far tried the peppermint choc, and the salted caramel. Both thick and creamy, the peppermint has lovely brownie bits, and the caramel has soft caramel bits with a tiny crunch. The flavour ribbons are really good.

    • I've tried it, it's awesome! Will stock up.

    • Good icecream. We buy it whenever on special.

  • Love the pwanut butter one. I can eat a whole tub in 1 sitting

Thought you would prefer the peppermint?

    • …wow. i can get 3-4 serves. hope you exercise a lot! :P

  • peppermint brownie very nice…

  • My go to Ice Cream when i am too poor to buy Messina…. or too cheap to offer it to guests LOL!

    • have you tried the new messina drumsticks ?

      • not yet… Never find drumsticks worth it since weight wise its more expensive than buying a tub.

        • True true I know what you mean, I bought 2 different types last night though because they were on special,
I'll let you know how they are ( if I remember)

The choc brownie one is wayyyy too easy to finish in one sitting.

I find Connoisseur nicer, this brand is less creamy and a bit sweet.

But a good price with the free container - great for trapping fireflies and using as a cheap light source.

    • +1

OMG! I laughed out loud at the fireflies as light source part! Are you single?

      • +1

I'm so cheap I light my apartment with bugs, of course I'm single

    • where do you live to find fireflies

Is it a lightweight metal tin or a plastic jar?

    …curse you & thanks.

Tried these last time they were half price, surprisingly pretty good! Particularly the peanut butter one.

    • …yeh peanut butter is the stand out & unique one. the others arent so unique/yummy

  • Just under $6 a litre is not bad but I can't go past the home brand $4.70 per litre ice cream for me. Step up above the super cheap ones imho.

    • Don't like the Woolies home brand that much. Coles Double Chocolate is OK though.

      • Woolworths coffee ice cream is the only one I bother getting. They recently released a hot cross bun flavour which isn't too bad. The Coles ice creams are definitely better with the cookies 'n' cream and caramel macadamia being my top two, although all of them are pretty good.

  • Containers were like that previously. They melt if washed in the dishwasher.

    • Good to know! They can't be autoclaved then!
When I type in Harry's ice cream into OzBargain it has a cardboard/plastic tub image - way old packaging then?

  • +1

Mint and peanut butter ones are greatttt

  • at this price ill give it a crack

    • …go the peanut butter. its ace

  • +1

There goes my new year resolution…

    • +4

      To stop collecting containers?

  • I reeeeeally don’t need to buy all of them, so which is the best one?

    • peanut butter…hands down
or just buy all of them… :D

  • They used to have a Pavlova one which was very addictive, I gather its gone and this range replaces all the old ones?

    • …no pavlova. sounds kinda interesting though..

    • +2

Well, to be fair, they had to stop selling it as it became so addictive, the country would come to standstill every time it went on sale, and it was destroying Australian economy.

  • I tasted the salted caramel last night, thought it was better than connoisseur’s. So I headed out again to buy the other 3 flavours.

  • Too many preservatives, be aware

  • +3

This has a 57% overrun 104ml/66g so quite a bit of air. For reference, haagen dazs has about 14% overrun. I haven't tried this stuff, but the overrun is a bit high to convince me of good quality. Ignoring value and looking only at price it's probably OK. Also, Conoisseur has about 33% overrun, so likely inferior to that too.

    • and…$3 a tub and yummy.

    • +1

      Sounds like a healthy choice/alternative!

    • It definitely didn't feel like a 500ml worth of content but agree - peanut butter one was interesting

    • Wow I like your analysis!

    • Thanks! I didn't know of this

Now the important question is whether:
      - the 520ml relates to the volume of the container, or
      - the actual volume of the product before air is pumped in

      • +1

        Volume of container.

      • +1

Has to be ice cream volume, since the serving size is 66g (104mL) x4: 520mL. They couldn't quote the air above in a serving size as it would affect the nutritional value.

Nor can they quote the air inside the icecream! Hence the 66g value is also included :)

  • Top Tip
The container doesn't like microwave ovens or really hot dishwahers….

    • Haha oh no!!

  • Just got the salted caramel fudge tub it is really good this might be my new ice cream favourite if they go on special often.

Also one question with recycling if anybody knows: is the lid and tub recyclable or just the metallic lid. I know the tub is plastic and meant to be reusable but if I buy too many I am curious if the proper recycling method for this ice cream tub.

  • I got all four flavours based on this post, mainly for the storage containers. I thought the ice cream was… horrible? The family seems to agree. Too watery/icy or something.

    • The salted caramel was too my liking. Although I drank it like a milkshake more so than eating it like an ice cream.. for $3 I found it really good value and the taste was too my liking.
