  • Hotels in Hawaii are expensive. It will be cheaper and more luxurious in southeast Asia.

Totally! And Philippines is incredible too. But some people really want to go to Hawaii, and Qantas isn't useful for getting to some SE Asian destinations, unfortunately.

Politically unstable third world ‘Southeast Asia you mean…

vs the country with a shutdown government? ;)

Phils and Thailand are fine in all tourist spots pretty much. Been to both numerous times various locations. Huge fan of Thailand especially for food alone. Also been to Hawaii and going back again this year, its totally different but some absolutely drop dead gorgeous locations if you get out n about… only real down side is accomm is expensive.

    • Not cheaper if you want to go to Hawai’i though

  • Someone told me that, if you want to fly to the big island, it is more economical to book that complete trip with Hawaiian Airlines, rather than fly to Honolulu with, say, Qantas and then book Hawaiian for the second leg.
    Is that correct?

    • Possibly, but you could also fly Jetstar for even less to HNL, then switch, if economical is your goal…

That has been my experience. Book in one go and you keep the international baggage limit too.

Hawaiian Airlines will have a similar deal soon if not already.

      • I hadn't considered baggage limit; good point

        • If your flying full service it can be. We go via jetstar deals and get seperate domestic legs with whoever. Carryon only and only checkin for return leg after hitting the outlets.

          • @Xizor: You get 2 suitcases of 30kg each with Hawaian Airlines. Same for this deal?

            • @Sydgun: Beats me, i've used Jetstar deals as cheaper.

    • Correct, and the big baggage allowance carries all the way through. Way easier at Honolulu with the baggage transfer too.

Thailand and Bali are completely different types of holiday, can't really compare. Yes Hawaii is expensive but it's also clean.

  • HA has matched, A330 vs QF 747.

HA probably better for couples 2-4-2 seat layout

    • The airbus a330 has the same layout. I flew back in one recently it was so nice.

Stopover in SYD, worth mentioning. Tight connections of 1.20 you'll probably miss your flight if your even slightly late leaving.

    • Yes the problem also with that is they are only 5 weekly. Could be stuck in Syd for 2 days.

    • If you book it in one booking - tight connections are the airlines problem.

      • Yeh it's their problem putting you in a hotel or on a jetstar flight middle seat.
But that doesn't bring back missing 2 days of your holiday.

  • This doesn't seem that cheap to me… Wasn't Honolulu return from Sydney being offered for around the $400 return mark by Jetstar not too long ago?

    • Yes but if you wanted baggage and seats add $150
