Nope, I cancelled my sub yesterday and just purchased 1 month for $5 from the OP link.

      • +11

Ok, then their T&Cs don't matter!

      • My account just charged me for Feb few days ago, forgot to take advantage of Aus Day Fiver promo.

Are you saying you cancelled even after a payment or? Think I've missed the boat, my ficticious 1 month (see 12 day) trial was over lol

  • +2

Wern't they offering 1 month free trial until recently?

      • +50

Be super wary with their trial periods.

If you joined on a Sunday, they your free subscription would finish on the Saturday.

They charged you on the 15th day…

        • +26

          I’m with you on this.

Why cut it so fine? Just cancel a couple of days before?

          • +7

@flashi007: You can cancel it as soon as you begin the trial, it'll still allow you to complete the 14 day/1 month etc trial period

        • -1

A fictitious "1-day trial" would finish 24 hours after you sign up. So if you signed up on a Sunday, you'd expect a 1-day trial to end on the Monday. A 2 day trial on Tuesday, a 3-day trial Wednesday, 4-day on Thurs, 5 on Fri, 6 on Saturday and a 7-day trial would finish at the time you signed up 7 days after you signed up. Same time, same day, a week later.

Another way to look at it is that 7 days is 168 hours. Yes, that's precise. But in software, that's just how it works (I run a subscription software biz for a living and that's how literally every subscription management app works). That's just how it's done unless you deliberately make it not do that.

FWIW I would normally cancel on the day prior anyway, but we were out the previous day so didn't get to it until the Sunday morning (by which point we'd already been billed)

            @Toast76:

A fictitious "1-day trial" would finish 24 hours after you sign up.

that's not how trials work… The day you join is counted as day 1.

            • @jv: Stripe, Paypal, Google Pay, Apple, Chargify, Chargebee, Braintree and literally every other subscription management software handles it this way. It's definitely how it works. As I said, unless someone makes the decision to make a trail less than 14 days, computers are very specific about how long that is.

Same goes for recurring billing. If you sign up on the 15th Jan on a monthly plan, you expect to get billed on the 15th day of each month. You don't expect it to be the 14th next month, and then the 13th the month after etc.

But anyway…I'll got back to be disgruntled by myself :)

Netflix doesn't, Stan doesn't, Foxtel Now doesn't and obviously Kayo doesn't…

                • @jv: Kayo is Foxtel, but just their sport under a different brand name. Its owned and operated by Foxtel but since they have tarnished their own brand so much they are rebranding their sport under Kayo. The software and customer service is going to be shite like Foxtel Go and Foxtel Now.

                  • @TheWoos:

                    Kayo is Foxtel

                    Different ACNs…

I've never had a problem with Foxtel Go.

                  • @TheWoos: I've used Foxtel Now for years. Only once in that time - during a GoT episode - has it even dropped a frame. No complaints at all.

              • @Toast76:

If you sign up on the 15th Jan on a monthly plan

This was a 2 week trial, not a monthly plan. (Sun -> Sat = 1 week)

It's not for new customers only, got 10 days ago on current expired account.

  • +5

My free month ended yesterday and I paid $25 bugger.

    • Mine 2 days ago :(

bring out an app on Xbox Live (like OPtus Sports did) and I'll consider it.

    • +2

Works pretty well through Microsoft Edge browser on Xbox One

  • +6

Nothing really worth watching in February except the Super Bowl

    • +2

      Big bash?

Also available on TV, but not in 1080p.

      • -3

Big bash on 7HD is 1080p isn't it?

        • +2

          not all matches

        • +2

Took some digging to find this… Apparently 7HD only available in capital cities + some extra areas in QLD. Rest of us watch on 7Mate in 576i.

Either way, it's 1080i not 1080p. Picture would look more smooth in 1080p anyway as far as I know, especially when you're tryna watch where the ball actually goes lol

        • +4

Not aware any ftv channel is 1080p. They are 1080i max I believe.

      • +1

There are only like 2 games missing from FTA TV now til the end of the season

        • It might actually be six missing from here on in, unless my source is wrong…which could well be.

          • @Global Nomad: Hmmm, The email I received from Kayo only listed 2 exclusive games as they were advertising for me to come back to them, surely they would advertise all exclusive games to get me to come back?

(I signed up for $5 anyway with only the 2 games available)

      • -8

        Big bash?

        lol

        • Big bash is a joke… Ipl is where it's at

    • Agreed, even with Superbowl, you may want to go to a pub anyway, which is why I cancelled it.

  • +6

Still an issue with Kayo and Chromecasting to android TV boxes like Nvidia Shield, Vodafone TV, Mi Box where the sound goes out of sync.

Likely a software issue as it casts fine to inferior hardware like the Chromecast and Chromecast ultra.

An Android TV app is pending, but still poor form for a paid service.

    • I got an email the other day that they've fixed the issue for Telstra TV users, yet to test it out though.

    • +1

Nope still issues casting from iPhone to android TV using chromecast. Audio aync problems still a massive issue. I spoke to their support people and said they have no plans to fix it for chromecast and to use chromecast ultra only. Kind of BS, never had any issues with other chromecast apps.

  • -3

I spoke to one of their agents on chat to see if I could get $20 back but they said the $5 deal is for new customers only. I thought since I had cancelled after signing up to the free month I wouldn't have been classed as a customer.

  • Does it just show AFL games or does it include other Fox Footy content like AFL 360?

    • Includes their other content

you can view the live sport channels from Fox by scrolling down to the bottom aswell

  • +2

It's Foxtel owned and operated, of course its going to be shite customer service and the cheapest software they could make. Love my sport but i wish to god someone would come along and compete with Foxtel for different Sports. I hate that a company with no morals is controlling this content.

    • +5

I am not saying this is flawless but it is leaps and bounds ahead of Foxtel Now IMO (Have a free year of Foxtel Now due to Telstra)

Kayo allows spoiler free viewing so other games don't get spoiled, you can watch split screen and view two games at once as well as the easy rewind feature that lets you see key moments.

Ever walked back in the house after doing some chore and you have just missed the Wicket in the Test? can easily click back and view that now with Kayo.

My biggest problem is that having slow internet causes a delay of anywhere between 10 to 20 seconds which won't cut it at footy season as sports is very social for me so communicating with mates I wouldn't like to be 20 seconds behind their play. It's already a problem for some Big Bash games TBF

      • +3

Even with fast internet (100/40 FTTP) I still see probably about 10s delay compared to terrestrial TV which I'm sure already has some seconds delay from live. It doesn't personally bother me much for how I watch sports but when Twitch can deliver less than 2s in Low Latency mode really makes you wish for better.

        • To be fair, the 10sec delay is probably the shortest delay I’ve seen in any streaming service I’ve used

  • +1

Do u think if u use a different email I can use this deal?. I’m currently on the one month free trial. Or do they track ur devices?

    • +1

Think they track by mobile number.

      • +1

correct - when you activate a new account they send an activation code to the registered mobile number. When you enter the activation code, if the mobile number is registered to another account, then you get an error that the mobile is linked to a different account.
$2 telstra sim & new email address should resolve the issue.

  • +5

Remember when both major parties said sport would always remain on free TV?

    • +1

Well that’s life. I’ll take a politicians word as a grain of salt. Plus sports on FTA is rubbish full of ads.

      • It could be worse. In the US, most sports are on Pay TV and are even more ad-packed than FTA broadcasts here.

I imagine Foxtel looks at the US and wishes it could do the same. If it locks in enough sports, maybe it can.

  • Put first month in the title

  • +1

sweet a month of watching A league for 5$

    • +4

      That's $10 too much

      • baha I dont mind the HAL, with tennis over there isnt much else to watch, i cant stand cricket (you would have to pay me to watch that shit) and footy is 3 months away

Sure there is the EPL but the times are not sleep friendly so unless it is Man U or a big match im not staying up for that

        • Does Kayo even have the EPL? Or Champions League for that matter?

          • @Hamlet: No and no. Unfortunately.

          • @Hamlet: No. Both EPL and CL are on optus sports, aswell as euro '20.

Kayo has FA cup, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A and a few other random cups.

          • @Hamlet: Nar just optus sport get a cheap(ish) 12 month plan and u get optus sports data free

  • Wow I'd never head of Kayo, might choose this over Foxtel Sports HD or Watch AFL.

Chomecasting Watch AFL was always a bit buggy using Chrome via VPN for me.
Foxtel is BS as I have to pay for all the other crap when all I want is the Fox Footy programs in HD.

  • +1

Wish they had EPL as well :(

  • They are still offering a 14 day free trial.

  • Thanks OP. They gave me a $5 offer which didn't work so this is great :)

  • +1

$5 is worth it for ESPN 30 for 30 documentaries alone.

  • I have foxtel and looking to replace with Kayo sport to save $ but noticed on their website it states chromecast ultra. I was looking to just stream to my tv via chromecast, but i only have standard chromecast(3).
Any advice anyone, and any feedback regarding the experience? I have had foxtel for 3/4 yrs and yes its $$$ but it never, ever lets me down. Thanks.

    • Following. We are in the same boat…

Also wondering if anyone with particular average internet (under 3mpbs) has had success with streaming Kayo? It’s (just) enough for Netflix.

I guess $5 trial is a good way to find out.

    • It works with all versions of chromecast…i have chromecast 1 and 2 and both work fine .just reminds you at the beginning that KAYO is only compatible with chromecast ultra which means to get the 4k streaming ultra is required.in fact i have not seen anything crisper in my chromecast 1 beside thd kayo's afc2019 streaming :)

    • +2

Worked fine for me with a Chromecast 2, think they just say ultra as it is the recommended version

  • Thanks guys yeah i get it now, just obviously need ultra for 4k.
I noticed the reviews for the app are terrible, any comments?

    • +1

No complaints from me, subscribed from day 1 and works fine with Chromecast and the app. $25 is very fair considering how expensive normal Foxtel is for the extra channels and sport.

    • Works fine for me.

  • Is there a TV guide to see what upcoming sports are being streamed? There's nothing obvious on the Kayo site…

    • +1

The Foxtel guide app and look at the relevant channels.

  • Anyone know if the Euro Golf Tournament (usually on Thurs through to Sunday) is shown with the sports?
Checked the website list but no sign.
    Maybe it's just selected sports.
The golf is great visually and good commentary. Few if any ads.
    Thanks.

  • Also, if you have already got Foxtel (Sports incl.) are you a new subscriber or not?
Do you have to drop Foxtel I wonder.

    • I believe they are separate, so you'd be a new subscriber.

  • The $5 signup said you don't have to do anything special. Except join within the dates.
I clicked on the $5 and followed the prompts - but seemed to say "free 14 days"
Then later I could not find any confirmation of the $5 Feb.
Follow up email says first payment due on 15/2/19.
    Is there a catch somewhere?

  • I think they recognise if you are a current Foxtel subscriber.
At least it seems that way.
But the difference is just $12.50 minus $5.00 or $7.50.
More important with the $5 for a month you have a month to decide.
Whereas with the free trial they bill you after 14 days.
    No big deal either way.
Now to find my CC and check the QOS.
