  • Didn't realise they sold these on eBay.

  • What's the distance like. Need about 250 meters from home to another location.

This isn't going to be enough for you.

      • Thanks :)

That's ok was just asking :) thanks anyway

Absolutely doable, perhaps not cheap but it is possible as per comment below!

I think you'll find there's plenty of people who have greatly exceeded that distance. Australian farmers in particular, have turned out to be quite an inventive lot in this regard.

Take a look at the Ubiquiti range - they have specially made access point and antennas to suit longer distances and Point-to-point bridges :)

      • Thanks. Which model is recommended?
What one is good if you don’t have a direct line of sight?

  • are these any good? any reviews from fellow Ozbargainers?

  • Teltra Broadband required in order to use them

    • Oh.. thats why they are so damn pricy

    • That is not true at all……these are WiFi mesh and can be use on third party routers. It's not locked specifically To Telstra's internet services or devices……

All you do is plug it into your Ethernet port on your router and disable the WiFi on your existing router. I mean you can leave your existing WiFi SSID broadcasting, just means you have 2 different WiFi SSIDs at home.

These things sell at Telstra RRP FOR $128 or $64 per disc

  • Are these even half secure? Who makes them, and the software they run?

If they are, it would be a first. At $114 it may be cheap, but noone will know if it is subsidised by crooks using a backdoor or three.

And of course, is it maintained appropriately, and for long once you've bought it.

And how much power does it use? Does it have a decent low-power or sleep mode, or does it poll your devices and your household with mircrowaves every half a second in case an unassocaited device has arrived?

  • I recall that these only work if you disable the main Telstra router?
What is the range on these?
