What's better with Apple gear these or Bose QC?

    • +1

I use these with my iPad Pro and they’re great. Only issue is if you change between devices, you have to go into Bluetooth settings and disconnect from one device and reconnect on the next. But that’s not a problem for me as I only ever use them on one device at a time.

      • Thanks

      • +1

I'm waiting on the next model. Hopefully they have multi device support and better call quality.

Those are the only aspects where the Bose win.

        • Bose you can use with multiple devices?

          • @D6C1: Sure can. No need to disconnect one or the other, either.

            • @giventofly: Oh nice. Maybe better to get the Bose :)

              • +1

@D6C1: If that's critical. I'd still choose the Sony as I believe they sound (and look) far better. All subjective, though. BOSE colour their sound too much. Some like it, some don't. BOSE are supposedly more comfortable, but I have zero issues with my MDR-1000x.

      • +1

I normally press and hold the power button for 7 seconds (even if it turns off briefly). It puts it in pairing mode so you only have to open BT settings on one device.

    • I have both Bose QC 35 and the Sony. Bose is a lot more comfortable in my opinion and can connect to two devices at once which is very convenient. I cannot stand the Sony earpads so I can't wear them for long periods of time. On the other hand, Sony's battery life is longer, has better audio quality and has better active noise cancellation. I prefer the Bose tactile buttons over Sony's touch pad, but again that is up to personal preference.

From memory, the last 20% sale ATA was involved in, they didn't pricejack. Great store.

  • +1

Can you claim the TRS from this shop ?

    • Should be able to. They do have a physical store in Melbourne.

    • +1

Might be able to get back even more since GST is based on the 398.

      GST = 398/11 = $36.18 at TRS

      • But can't you only get GST on the actual price you paid, not adjusted?

  • +3

    Hold my beer.

    • +3

      That's not beer

  • Finally, a genuine deal on these. Good job!

  • +1

Is this better than the Bose QC35?

    • +2

Received mine this week and I think they're excellent.

Only advantages of the QC35 as mentioned above is the pairing to multiple devices, and the better microphone for phone calls.

I think audio quality and noise cancelling is better on these though.

    • +2
      • On previous QC vs MDR models the QC are more comfortable. But that may have changed.

  • I pointed this out in the ebay code thread, but held off posting them as a actual deal until the code worked and there was no price jacking.

    • fair - but this was posted before your comment!

      • Good point. I didn't check the time stamps and I saw the main code deal post first.

Selling for $499 at Harvey Norman.

    • And your point is?

OzyBe means that Hardly Normal is a massive rip. Just couldnt word it. Maybe English isnt their first language.

        • +1

I don't see anything in OzyBe's history that suggests English isn't their first language. Few words are needed to convey that Hardly Normal is a massive rip. The prices do all the talking.

          • @ak47wong: It was meant to be somehow sarcastic. Yeah English isn't my first language

  • I got the ones off Amazon which are due for delivery today, but will return and get these ones if there's no price jacking.

    Thanks in advance OP!

    • With cashback from cashrewards or shopback, if you ordered from Amazon for $327.04, amazon is slightly cheaper overall.

      • Thanks raistlin! I was actually hoping for silver so happy to pay slightly more. Also I think I stuffed up the cashrewards bit because it's still not showing up in my account. -10 ozbargain points for me.

        • +2

Can always lodge a claim with cashrewards after the purchase.

  • +2

CONFIRMED - no price jacking. Ordered

    • Does addictedtoaudio on ebay have history of price jacking?

      • According to @snoopydoop they don't - I just wasn't sure given there are a lot of sellers that price jack when there is a 20% eBay sale.

  • Thanks for posting - ordered

  • Bought It :) Thanks OP!

  • +1

Bought one within first minute of code going live, great price for new aussie stock, thanks OP!!!!!

    • Never really thought about sniping using a coupon.

      • I've been waiting on a deal for a few weeks now after my other pair of sonys (much older and already replaced out of warranty by sony) broke again. The listing said more than 10, 243 sold and considering this is the best price ever for new (not refurb) stock I thought it might sell out!

Just went back to the listing - "338 sold in 1 hour"

  • Got a set too !

  • LOL - definitely some brodens out there! Some people buying TEN at a time!

    • A couple of users are buying multiple lots (5+) in different colours. Wonder if Addicted to audio will police that as these are almost commercial quantities?

      • +1

One guy has bought over 50 across multiple purchases! Crazy hey! As long as it doesn't ruin it for us!

Great deal, nabbed 20 to sell on gumtree

    • +1

What's the going price on gumtree? Not sure it's worth all the calls and low-ballers.

      • I bought 2 weeks ago for 300 (open box, bought first week of Jan).. the guy bought brand new from Sony for 399. Best purchase of the year, these are amazing!

      • $330-350 depending on how many they buy at once

      • Everyone knows the price of XM3s since they're always on sale. Maybe you can make $20 per set, but still deal with Scumtree, i.e. potential scams, time wasters, etc. Not worth it, IMO.

  • Can anyone comment on how these (or the Bose 35) compare in sound quality (ie frequency extension, tightness of bass, soundstage) to something like the sennheiser hd 25?

I like quality sound and don't really want to compromise on quality just to be free of a cord.

My specific use case is electronic dance music Nx hop hop.

    • +2

Just forget about comparing Bose QC35, Sony XM3 or any active noise cancelling headphones to proper monitoring headphones. They're completely different use cases - ANC headphones are sold on their ANC and portability, monitoring headphones are sold on their sound quality.

If you don't want to compromise on quality then no BT or ANC headphones will live up to your expectations.

      • Thanks. I thought as much but sometimes I just want to be told how it is.

        • No problem. I'm similar to you, I have AKG 7XX at home and enjoy good sound quality but I have found QC35 sound quality "good eoungh" where the benefits (ANC on flights) outweigh that drawback. I've heard good things about XM3 sound quality but I'm not expecting it to blow me away, an improvement on QC35 would be fine. For what its worth I think the bass is actually the strongest point of QC35 (harsh treble, muddled mids and sound stage).

          • @Soothsayer: What are your thoughts on the hd25? Any experience with them?

I tried so many other models at djcity and even more expensive AKG, Sennheiser, all kinda of models just sounded thin. Maybe I'm just a sucker for closed back, as open back sounds great for soundstage and separation between instruments in acoustic music, but in music with heavy electronic elements and the resulting low frequency extension it seems even the best open back cans are lacking.

PS what type of music do you mostly listen to, and did it inform your choice of cans?

            • +1

@ozbjunkie: Nope, never tried those sorry. I've always liked open back headphones as mine are dual use with gaming and the seperation is a noticable advantage in some types of games. My music prefs are all over the place, though I do listen to more guitar / multi instrument based stuff over electronic so open back also fits well with that. I wanted something with a wide soundstage and especially good seperation in the mids and highs to make guitars and vocals more distinct and not 'shrill' at higher volumes.

It all comes down to a matter of taste, and it sounds like yours are for closed back and more pronounced bass. What I will say is the 'enthusiast' audiophile community generally look for cans that reproduce the recording as closely as possible (i.e. monitoring headphones), and a lot of the common picks like AKGs and Beyers also have common complaints about sounding somewhat sterile / clinical. If you've always used headphones that 'colour' the sound in some way then these might sound a bit underwhelming in a quick demo but it's actually more accurate to the original sound. I like the bass on the K7XX but I would describe it more as tight bass that fills in the bottom end, but not really punchy or boomy. This can be somewhat fixed with EQ as well but if you like the sound of closed back then be happy with it!

  • Cannot process payment transaction ATM via CC or PayPal, bummer looks like I miss out again.

LOL @ 350 sold in the last hour. Ozbargain strikes again

    • I received an SMS saying:

[PayPal] Transaction of -$398.00 AUD to The trustee for BusiSoft Discretionary Trust on 31 January 2019 is marked as suspicious. Reply “1” if authorized or “2” if not authorized. [Reply Needed]

I just find it weird that Paypal is asking authorisation for this vendor. Also, why is it asking for 398 not 318? I haven't authorised yet so I would love to hear from you guys

      • Re: Reply 1 if authorised.

It may not be a Paypal message: I get this SMS on several transactions when using my 28 Degrees mastercard on items not purchased through Paypal.

  • Nice, thanks!

  • Got one last time when it was 338 (10% GST return pending), happy with the product so far. The only complain I have so far is that it's way too hot to wear in summer outside of aircon coverage.

  • I listened to these and the Bose QC35 in JB Hifi where they were both setup for demo. I wasn't so much listening for sound quality as they were playing different music but purely for noise cancelling. In my opinion the Sony was quite significantly better for noise cancelling in the noisy JB Hifi store.

  • +2

Sony if you want ANC and better sound quality

Bose if you want better long term comfort, call quality

  • Quick, mine has been shipped

    • Mine too :) Thanks. have to return the Amazon one which i ordered yesterday for $366

  • Sold out of silver…

  • if its not ozbargin made me bought two already, i should be all over this 😎

  • Seems like people say Sony noise cancelling is better than Bose. Hmm. Have been long Bose fab but time to change? :)

  • How do you apply this?

When I put the code in at the checkout it says the code is not aplicable to your order.

  • I've ordered one, got confirmation from Ebay, but not from the seller. Then I got this instead:

"Thank you for submitting your request. A support ticket has been created, and one of our team members will be in touch (usually within 24 hours)."

No money deducted from my account so far. Anyone else got the same?

    • I got this same message. Not sure what the resolution is for this though S:

      • +1

that's normal. I got that. A few hours later, I got a shipping notice.

      • EDIT: Yes confirmed via phone call it's just a way to show that it's an eBay purchase that's what he told me anyway

      • Cheers guys. Just don't want to receive a cancelled order later on :)

    • +1

I received that message, then about half an hour later received shipping confirmation, so i don't think you have anything to worry about.

    • I got that too, but shortly after got a shipping email.

  • Haven't tried the Bose out but the Sony's build quality wasn't the best. Might have been the flogged out pair at JB but I dunno?

Anyone else think these would snap in a light breeze?

    • The pairs i have tested at numerous stores seemed to be very sturdy and durable, leaving at least an impression of high quality, especially compared to the CH700's which i was also looking at which felt like garbage in comparison.

    • Youtube vid shows the flexibility of the headphones, you have nothing to worry about
      https://youtu.be/ZzCCMQ0rkM8?t=196

    • No. I have a pair and they aren’t fragile.

  • Thanks OP, headphones shipped :)

    • What time did you order?

      • I ordered around 3hrs ago

        • Thanks for letting us know. I ordered right on 10 but haven't received shipping confirmation yet so hopefully mine hasn't slipped under the radar…

          • @mustard: Same. I put in my order at 10:30 and haven't received anything. Getting a bit paranoid now since I'm going overseas on 9th Feb…

            • @quannguyen91192: Did you happen to order silver as well?

              • @mustard: Got myself a black one instead!

              • @mustard: I ordered a silver one at exactly 10:00am. No update till now. But I received a call at around 12:00pm from them confirming the address.

                • @d375922593: Oh that’s promising for you, hopefully I’m the same!

  • Bit the bullet & bought them!

  • I wouldn't but off this mob, wouldn't except a return.

    • +1

They won't for change of mind but I have returned stuff under warranty and had a new replacement promptly shipped back.

  • My Friday is swinging with these headphones. Ordered one yesterday from Amazon for $366 with cashback(12%). But found Prime members cant get the cashback. so, requested for Cancellation and bought today from ebay for $318. Fortunately, recieved a notification from cashback saying $40 is back in my account(which i can see under pending) making my Amazon transaction to $326. i cancelled the cancellation request from Amazon and both my headphones will arrive on Maonday. Will sell one for a bit profit :)
