based on my experiences I'd give the LGs a miss, they just dont add enough software updates to there TVs. Given i've had mine for a while, but slowly slowly all featres are being removed, the big ones where, soon after getting it, support for Skype disappeared, then youtube… what type of a smart tv is a smart TV if you dont have Youtube, then i had to add an exception in for Plex as it couldnt to the correct encoding?encryption? for DLNA… yeah, no thanks, not unless there wasnt anything close in price…

and no 2 I'd stick with an android TV for that same reason.

    • My LG 55LB6500 bought 4 years ago is still good. Plenty of apps but I only use Netflix and youtube.
Screencast from youtube on ipad and phone works but not all apps can see the TV builtin screencast.
Smart remote is a pain now with on/off button requires hard press to take effect. Not sure if there is a way to clean it to make it work better?

      • what OS is it running? my LG has there own proprietary OS on it, which may have been the issue.

        • My LG runs the WebOS software, full support for all the major apps like Netflix, Stan, Youtube and even the WWE Network. Had mine for nearly 12 months now and the apps work great with regular app updates and software updates for the TV OS.

        • Lg WebOS with update every few months

          • @kctt: maybe mine is just too old then, i got updates, but no longer, they just remove functionality…

guess my TV is about 6 years old now, but still skype was removed 3-4 years ago, and youtube a couple of years ago, TV still should have quite a bit of life in it.

  • Man I wish these were that price when I won a $1000 JB gift card. Wanted a TV that’d do Amazon video without a fire stick, but had to get a HiSense and couple hundred in other stuff. Ended up costing $3.40 for entry so can’t complain, but I’m going into HN to check these ones out this morning anyway.

  • guys, this or the Kogan 55"? Any TV expert here? In terms of quality, is this worth the extra premium?

I bought a cheap Soniq 55inch UHD TV for about 550 last week. It was pretty good for the price I thought, but there was a small line of about 4-5 stuck pixels.

I took it back but they had none of the same model to swap it with, so I was in the same boat as you, wondering if I should go cheaper than cheap with the Kogan, or pay the extra for potentially more longevity and a better picture. I ended up going for the LG based on the uncertainty of getting a dud Kogan. I don't regret it, it's way better than the Soniq which I would expect to be similar to the Kogan.

From what I have read about the Kogan offerings, you either get one that is OK and gives you good service, or one that is pretty crap and getting support is problematic. There is more chance of having a bad experience than a good one, so it's a gamble, but it could pay off.

  • Can someone who bought this TV please comment on the picture quality and upscaling?
