Viofo A129 Dual Dash Cam $188 / A119 Pro $95 / A119S $94 / A119 V2 w/SD Card $96 @ a1_electrictoys eBay

PASSIONATE

Update: seller jacked prices for single cams to $95 for A119 Pro, $94 for A119S, $105 for A119 V2 GPS. A119 V2 w/o GPS, but with SD card is $95 which is still a decent deal. Dual cam A129 is still same price.

Been a while since since the last deal on the A119 Pro or A119S, and the lowest price for A129 dual with both cameras.

A119S link
A119 V2 GPS link
A129 dual cam link

Seller has many variants of each with or without GPS, SD card, hard wire kit, etc also available: link

My pick is the A119 V2 GPS for a single cam or A129 for dual cam. Don't see a real difference with the A119 Pro and A119S doesn't have as clear image as the 1440p models. Some may disagree!

  • Anyone know how the A129 would compare to the uniden igo cam 50R? It can be had for cheaper than the A129 for ~$180 and is also dual cam.

    • +5

The A129 is better in every aspect. Uniden only has a res. of 480 in the rear so you're going to have a hard time reading a license plate with that.
A129 also has the Sony sensor and capacitor battery.

      • ta, didn't realise 50r was only 480p in the back

  • +1

I've never owned a perfect dash cam that never had a problem.

I can't imagine buying a dual camera dash cam is a good idea.

All it takes is a memory card issue or a clock issue and you'll lose your footage.

    • +4

But the alternative is having no dash-cam.

      • +2

The alternative is two dash cams, they cost the same.

Much better quality too, I can't imagine the rear camera will be very useful with a dual cam.

        • can't imagine the rear camera will be very useful

Lots of run away drivers these days. It will let you also capture the face of the driver too.

          • @No ONE: What I meant was, a rear camera located at the front of the car is not going to pick up a very good image.

A rear camera at the rear of the car will, and it won't cost anymore.

            • +1

@samfisher5986: Wait…do you actually think this A129 rear camera mounts at the front? Because it doesn't.

              • @plmko: Oh jeez

That will teach me to not click on the product link.

I thought this was the other one with two cameras on either side.

Still I guess my point still remains, why not just buy two cameras.

                • @samfisher5986:

Still I guess my point still remains, why not just buy two cameras.

Can be a pain to wire-in a second camera, particularly when looking to utilize parking guard features

              • @plmko: There are those that do, and they're pretty good. But they're not called "Rear Cameras", they are called "Taxi cams" or "Cockpit Camera".

I think he wanted to say, 2x Main Cameras are better quality than 1x Main Camera + 1x Secondary Camera. Which I agree. And they usually are the same price. However, what they lack is convenience when watching a footage which shows both captures in Picture-in-Picture….very handy for the Police.

    • A119S V2 does time sync with GPS and as long as you drive once a month the RTC battery should keep the time.
Memory card issue is not dashcam fault but I think they should come up with raid capability or duplicate first 16gb to alternative storage ( UFS or m2 ssd )

      • +1

Maybe I should do a firmware upgrade because my GPS defaults to off if it loses RTC battery.

  • They just price jacked them!!

    • +3

Wow. Poor form. Hope somebody was able to benefit from this deal, the prices were on par with Chinese sellers (Banggood etc) but with local shipping.

EDIT: the A129 is still the same price @ $235 before code.

      • Yeah, i put one in my cart at one price and then it jumped up in the time it took to checkout!

    • Well I got the 119Pro with GPS back mid December and his price was $120.99 and was still cheapest in Oz.

Also got the A129 single with GPS 2 weeks back and his listed price for that remains the same as now.

Worked for me 10:10am QLD time

    • Looks like dual camera is the same price. Single cams went up.

      • +1

Yep. Still OK prices for the single cams (esp A119 with SD card for $95) but not fantastic like before. Have changed title and desc.

  • Do any of these record in parking mode??

    • yes but it will need to be hard-wired into the car

      • video or timelapse images for parking mode?

        • I have not used it yet, but I am quite certain that its motion detected videos.

          • @specks: A119x work on motion detection. If movement is detected without g-shock, it wakes and records in time lapse (1/5/15fps). If a g-shock event is detected, it wakes and records in normal video mode (full fps + audio).
            https://www.viofo.com.au/parking-mode/

            A129 has multiple options.
            https://www.viofo.com/blog/detail/a129-parking-mode-v20-intr…

This seller has the parking mode (i.e. low voltage detect) hardwire kit that works for all cameras also for sale here.

            • @Soothsayer: Do you know if the A119 V2 has the ACC mode?
Or does it only require the 2 wire kit?

              • +2

@kevlam3: No, A119 does not have ACC mode - it enters parking mode via software instead of hard wire (uses movement / g-sensor to enter parking mode).

You can use the 2 wire kit but it is not good for your car battery if you use parking mode with it, as it will only cut off at 12V (3 wire kit can cut off at 12.4V). So I would get the 3 wire kit if you want parking mode, and 2 wire kit if you just want to hard wire without PM.

                • @Soothsayer: Cheers for the info.

                  • @kevlam3: No problem. I should probably do a JV and bold this statement for the benefit of others: do not use the 2 wire kit with parking mode. Discharging a car battery to 12V (i.e. roughly 25-50% capacity) over and over will severely degrade it.

            • @Soothsayer: I have the a129 hardwired using my old a118 kit. This one appears to have 3 cables as aposed to 2, I’m guessing one is for 12v and the other 24v?

Anyways, other than checking with a multimeter in the fuse box which fuse to double off, you wouldn’t know which common existing fuse to tap into by any chance?

      • Not necessary, can operate via portable power bank. I plug in to the power bank when at shopping centre carpark or parked on road side during day time. Works equally well. 10,000mAh battery is more than sufficient.

        • +1

depends how people feel about batteries in their cars during hot days

          • @specks: Suppose modify a small esky and chuck the battery in it to keep cool while powering the dash cam unit. Lol, thinking out loud. I've done it many times, no problems encounter till date. when arrive to office, charge the battery at work.

            • @HL2: Seems inconvenient to have to manually plug in dash cam and manually charge the power bank. A neater solution would be to hard wire a power bank, as the main negative of parking mode IMO is the increased wear and degredation on the car battery. But most people would still need to manually charge up the bank unless they do a lot of driving.

Plus I agree with allan, I'm not a fan of keeping a bank of Lithium cells in the car permanently - isn't this the whole reason why people avoid Li-powered dash cams? Doesn't matter if you've been doing it for x days, it only takes that one time where you leave it on the street on a 45 degree day to ruin your day.

            • @HL2: Centre box seems to be idle spot for the battery, It doesnt get too hot.

              • @Vancomycin 1000mg: I assume you live in Western Australia or something.

If you park your car in the sun, everything will get hot.

  • Can vouch for the A119S V2 with GPS. Good unit and has an active group on Dashcam Talk.
There are also "mods" to the firmware which improve on factory settings. Recommend getting the CPL filter too.

  • Could someone tell me if those are good or not please? Never had a dash cam before and don't know much about them, unfortunately. Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know how these compare to something like a Blackvue DR750S?

    • Blackvue is a premium brand which is reflected in their price. Depends on your budget, if you can afford it, why not.

  • This code can't be applied to your order. :(

  • How good is the VIOFO A119 V2 (or the Viofo brand) in terms of heat / high temperature resistance, could anybody give recommendations please?

The buttons on my old xiaomi dash cam recently started to crack and "pop out" (and have become un-clickable) due to high heat under the sun - e.g. in QLD 30+ degrees for 8 hours Mon-Fri.

    • +1

Survives fine in the abhorrent QLD heat

    • +1

      Brisbane user, no problems here.

    • +1

I have A119S V2, it's still alive after 45C. The buttons have become slightly stiffer, but still working fine.

      • Thanks all for the inputs.

  • I picked up the A129 Duo on the 31st using the 10% off deal. Damn .. arrived yesterday and trying to get a refund. LOL

Note: the store also has Samsung Endurance SD cards 32gb 64gb (My pick) 128gb MicroSD for dashcams from the same seller.
Also the 3 wire parking kit.(This allows parking mode and protects your battery by cutting off the dashcam if battery gets too low)

Note: For those of you that are interested. This cam has the new Sony Starvis sensor and its one of the best at this price point.
I have two dashcams, one with the older Exmor sensor iRoad v9 vs X9 and the clarity is visible. i.e. Mounted on the same position / condition and I can make out license plates with ease 30-40 meters away on a sunny day. The v9 oldler sensor you need to retouch and post process to guessimate the plate.

  • Just got the A129 for ~$191 with the pixies code from a cheaper seller two days ago. All ends up the same price it seems.

Not very smart jacking up the price like that, seeing how they have 100% positive feedback. Hope the two ozbargainers leave a negative feedback.

    • you know they have to sacrifice more than 14 percent in these ebay 20% deals in order to be in the game? so try to be nice,at least they are not jacking up 30% like some others do. a129 is still the same price which is cheapest local stock with express post. thats definitely a bargain there.

      • I was referring to the a119s & a119 pro, which both had 13.3% price increases. So that 14% sacrifice was taken back and then some.

I don't get it though, why would they "sacrifice" themselves to be a part of "the game", only then to bring their business into disrepute by blatantly increasing the price. Sure, if the potential buyers weren't ozbargainers then fair enough, someone could just say, oh, I just missed out on a lower price, oh well.

Retailers can do whatever they like, and you as a consumer can vote with your wallet. Whinging about retailers especially on here achieves diddly squat.

          • +3

@tromboc: Diddly squat? And you call yourself an ozbargainer, you should cancel your ozbargain membership immediately. Whinging on a huge community such as ozbargain has a huge and immeasurable impact on businesses that do the dirty.

            • @lookalive: First you get on your soapbox about an online retailer's business practises, now you're demanding another user cancel their membership to an online forum. People are allowed to disagree with each other. If you don't like this business, or the way they conduct themselves, just hit the back button on your browser and move on.

This thread is for discussing dash cams, for christs sake.

    • This was the reply I got after enquiring:

Hi there, thanks for your contact. Due to the ebay 20% off promotion we have to adjust the price accordingly in order to not lose due to the heavy fees involved, if you would like the old pricing, you are more then welcome to come back after the 10th when the promo ends so we can restore the old pricing, thanks very much for your interest and understanding. Do apologise for the inconveniences.

I bought the A129 unit back in August 2018 for $197.99aud. A very good unit and no troubles till date. Installation is not difficult. A good buy for front and rear dash cam. I used the standard samsung micro sd card 32gb, not endurance model. Bought it for $12 if i'm not mistaken during one of those early ebay plus deals. Suppose if it fails, $12 is not an expensive price to pay for a micro sd card. I note some of the endurance or suitable for continuous recording have limited warranty anyway. So why pay more…

    • Suppose if it fails, $12 is not an expensive price to pay for a micro SD card.

Correct, however considering the intended use for said SD card, it could also be said that $20 for the endurance model is a small price to pay for the safety of the data its storing… 😉

    Regarding the A129
From link above to DashCam Talk forum, I've been made aware that there is a 130deg(new) and 140deg(old) Field of View version of theses cams.

Older 140deg is single pinhole iris lens while newer release is larger greenish "iris".

If field Of View is important to you. ask the seller what he's got. My A129 from 2 weeks ago is old 140.

  • I current got the A119v2 would like to know the difference with A119 pro or A119S

  • I am interested in A119 V2 GPS. Does anyone know if this model prints either SPEED AND/OR GPS Coordinates on the footage film shot? Some reports are out there indicating that it doesn't, which kinda defeats the purpose.

    • My bad - i was looking at A129. Could be because A119 doesn't come with gps - gps is extra? Dashcam talk only has A119 and A119s reviews not A119V2. Their A119 video samples don't seem to be marked with that data..

Some reports out there are probably due to people not setting it up properly? The sample videos from dashcam talk for this cam have km/h speed and Easting and Northing. https://dashcamtalk.com/viofo-a129-duo/#Sample_Videos

    • Can confirm A119 has the option to print GPS only, GPS + speed, or none (speed / GPS can still be retrieved using a PC application).

    • The dash cam itself is the same - with/without GPS. The GPS module is a separate mount that stays fixed to your windscreen. When the dash cam is connected to this mount it can display/record speed and coordinates. You can also turn this feature on/off in the dash cam settings or edit them out using video editing software.

  • Does anyone know if there is a file lock button feature on the dual dash?

    • +1

Firmware on A129 should be similar to A119s which does have a file lock button.

    • +1

I think for A129 there is an optional little bluetooth remote button as well?

      • +1

there is, bought one but still can't decide where to put it. Might not be useful as the capture button on the device itself is still within arm's reach

  • Anyone used the WR1? Aware that it is not as good as A119, but still acceptable?

The seller has A118C2 for $80 before discount https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Viofo-A118C2-GPS-1080P-Car-Dashc…

    Tossing between the two.

    • A118C is an old superseded model. Best to avoid.

  • Can anyone recommend me Dash Cam (Budget) that records road and passenger at the same time for UBER?

    • Just buy the duo front and rear cam and mount the rear cam in the front dash

  • Wondering in 46 votes how many are before price jacking ? Hmmmm…

  • Anyone could recommend a good mounting tape for this? I'm using these but it's still melting in the sun, end up using super glue

  • Can anybody with A129 dual kit shed some light on the front cam. If mounted upside down, can the image be flipped pre-recording within the camera settings or would it only be possible in post processing?

Asking because I'd love to rig one of these up to my motorbike screen but would probably need to have the front cam upside down because of screen.

    • +1

You can flip the image (in settings) on the A119s, so I would think it's a safe bet it can be flipped on the A129.

    • +1

You can flip it using the Voifo app

      • Is that in post or pre-recording?

        • +1

          Pre-recording.

With the latest firmware update you can also now mirror the rear image.

          • @ShMiCk: Beautiful. Looks like 3 kits for me. My car, missus' car, motorbike.

Cheers for the above info peeps. 👍

  • Anyone know how to remove the 3m adhesive with these units?

    • +1

I'm not kidding but dental floss works the best - it's similar to what VIOFO supply.

      • Seriously? Use that to cut through the sticky part away from window?

        • Use a saw motion pulling it side to side. You can use fishing line too

          • @eciuj: Then use meth/tubs to clean off the residual.

  • Can't recommend the Viofo cameras anymore after my A119S V2 that's probably less than a year old melted in the Melbourne heat. Buttons warped and device corrupted. I took it apart and kind of fixed the buttons so they could be pressed again. I then reflashed with new firmware which removed the screen corruption but the device shuts down after 2 secs. Definitely not a camera to keep permanently fixed to the windscreen if you park your car outside. My other car which is parked under cover most of the time has the A119S V1 and its older and still works. Heat is not a friend of the Viofo cameras. Funnily enough my cheap rear vision mirror dashcam with a battery is still working.
