Kraft Cheese Singles Original 24pk 432g $3.22 (Was $6.45) @ Woolworths

220

Great price for this (both 'light' and 'original' variants). It's rarely on the half price promo. Good timing too, with the schools starting in early Feb. Time to stock up for the lunch boxes.

The title is wrong. There is no dairy (zero) in Kraft Singles thus it is not cheeze. Singles are the result of a chemistry process that offer a similar body to cheeze.

    • Title is as per the product name mentioned on Woolworths website.

      • I think that's a mistake on Woolworths part. Even on the packaging, it doesn't refer to it self as cheese, just "singles." Does seem to still have a bit of dairy in it.

According to rules put in place by the FDA, Kraft can’t even refer to their singles as cheese. By the FDA standards, a food can be identified as cheese if it contains “at least 51 percent real cheese.”

(that site reminds me of buzzfeed …)

          • @ozlab: much like a can of coke, US version contains high fructose corn syrup, here were use sugar, don't mix what they do in the US to what they do here

        • This is about the American variety, a FDA is US Gov Dept, which is also orange in colour, so unless this is also made there and lying about the ingredients, then your post isn't relevant, and this is cheese.

Ingredients list on Woolworth's page: Milk, Water, Milk Solids, Butter Or Cream (From Milk) Or Milk Fat, Mineral Salts (331, 341, 339), Salt, Food Acid (270), Preservatives (200, 235), Starter Culture, Enzymes, Colours (160a, 160b).

My objections to this cheese is that these slices are thinner and weigh less than normal, like Dairylea are, which make me think these are also made by Dairylea, Traditionally 24 slice pack is 500g , these are 432g and thinner.

          • @Trantor: They make them thinner and lighter to look after your health.

@coin saver: at the same cost? which do you think they are more interested in, the bottom dollar or your health?

    • I thought the Dairylea Slices were Singles rebranded. The Wikipedia entry cited earlier seems to confirm:

Bega switched the name of their sliced cheese product from "Kraft Singles" to "Dairylea Slices", as Bega acquired the rights to the Dairylea brand in Australia in the deal. The "Kraft Singles" name could return in the future, as Kraft Heinz will assume the trademark from Mondelez at the beginning of 2018.

  • Mmm.. 24 slices of Australian cheese.

    • +1

      Australian cheese.

      Kraft is an American company…

      • Mate, 20% Aus ingredients, that's as fair dinkum as you can get.

  • I don't understand cheese that has so many ingredients and preservatives. Good cheese is just Milk, Starter Culture, Enzymes. All the other stuff is just crap to make bad cheese look and taste ok: Milk Solids (read powder), Butter Or Cream (From Milk) Or Milk Fat, Mineral Salts (331, 341, 339), Salt, Food Acid (270), Preservatives (200, 235), Colours (160a, 160b).

Good cheese is just Milk, Starter Culture, Enzymes

      So is Bad cheese.

Also, if you want to make Ricotta cheese all you need is milk & lemon juice. Salt is optional too…

    Went from 500g 24 slices to 432g 24 slices.

Reminds me of Pringles when they shrunk the can. Seems to be a trend.

      • +1

Yes, has only been a trend for about 20 years.

  • so coles 24pk cheese slices are better at everyday price of $3.70

Cheese (83%) [Milk, Salt, Starter Cultures, Enzyme (Rennet, Lipase)], Water, Milk Solids, Emulsifying Salt (331), Preservative (200), Salt, Natural Colours (100, 160b).
