Bunnings have stopped selling this due to concerns about killing bees.

Might be hard to get moving forward, so stock up.. or don't..

Highly toxic to earthworms and bees. No deal.

    • Toxic to earthworms when used in soil application form
Spray non flowering plants ie: Azaleas and Rhododendrons at this time of year for lace bug

    • Do you know any other pesticides that are bee friendly?

"safe for beneficial insects like bees, ladybeetles and earthworms."

        • Is this just white oil, which you can make by mixing vegetable oil and detergent? If so, it would only work on contact and for the duration of time the coat the leaves.

        • I was thinking something with an actual pesticide as an active ingredient. I.e. something registered with apvma.

The problem with these organic oil based products is that equivalents can be achieved with DIY home made products. e.g. soap and water spray for aphids, tea-tree oil, lavender oil, etc.

These natural products only go so far, but one must not assume that there are like-for-like compared to this item.

I recently used Imidacloprid + Beta-cyfluthrin for an infestation of lawn worm/black beetle. I'm sure earthworms and ants would be collateral damage as I sprayed the soil, but what can I do when I had patches of dead lawn. 2 weeks later the grass is looking much much greener and it's actually growing now.

Nothing will be solved here, if there was a pesticide that was safe on x,y,z but got rid of a,b,c it would be a miracle and I'm sure the Bayer's and BASF's of the world would be working on. Much like what happening with glyphosate, everyone is trying to find a replacement.

Not saying that one is better then the other. It's always better to exhaust your natural DIY options before trying chemicals.

        • Yeah, had to resort to this to treat psyllids. Only sprayed it last week, so don't know how effective it has been.

Tempted to get Confidor, as I know it works - but reluctant to kill the bees.

          • @The Hobo: if it's for psyllids on a lillypilli as they aren't flowering I would try the confidor only have to worry about the bees if they are getting sprayed or collecting the nectar

            • @iand: Yup it's for lilly pilly - we had tonnes of bees around it a few months ago though…

  • Hi Op, do you have the Concentrated Version too?

  • Personally I would buy spectrum which is the concentrated form of the active ingredient called imidacloprid.
The active ingredient is licenced by Bayer.
1L is about $60 on ebay and it'll last you for years.
You only need a couple of ml for a 5L sprayer.
With these premixed sprayers your paying for a $1 sprayer bottle, a fraction of a ml of product and the rest is just water.

    • so it is as good as confidor?

      • +1

It's exactly the same ingredient so yes.
Confidor is the name Bayer use and is a well known brand.
Numerous lesser known brands sell the same product but everyone's heard of confidor so is happy to spend top dollar on it.
When you do the maths on how much more expensive it is to buy premixed confidor in a spray bottle rather than a bottle of spectrum concentrate your eyes will water and your bottom will clench like a boxers fist.

I run a garden business and use these kind of products all the time.

I'll always opt to use a home made horticultural oil if I can rather than using systemic pesticides. It's a mix of vegetable oil and dishwashing detergent This works for many things and is kinder to bees.

    • i cannot find spectrum anywhere. can you send me the link plz?
