Any differences between the two except for screen size?

Best price I've seen so far for this spec - E480 is my preference

  • Can warranty be upgraded?

  • How heavy is the e480? How does it compare with Acer swift 3?

Whoever has the e480 or e580 can you please tell me what ssd is inside (samsung 970, 960 or other brands)

    • From the reviews I read it appears to be made by Lenovo themselves (and not just rebranded). And from all accounts it is garbage - decent read speeds but terrible write speeds. Ends up being no better than a good SATA III drive. Whether that is the drive itself or something to do with the bus architecture is hard to tell.

Also, reviews seem to indicate both E480 and E580 have heating issues and throttle quite badly. This may not be too apparent for general purpose use but would make it a poor choice for gaming (not that it is designed for that).

Of course, Lenovo may have fixed these issues since the reviews I saw were written (quite a few months ago) but I couldn't find any later/better ones so I didn't go through with a purchase. But it is still a good price for what would be a decent business laptop.

I've been looking for a new laptop for a month or so, every single laptop I've researched in-depth has "bad throttling and overheating issues". The list includes

        dell xps 9560/9570
        lenovo x1 carbon, p1, extreme
        e480/580
any other lighter machine with a dedicated gpu

Is there any laptop that doesn't have a throttling or some other issue?

            @ChatCPT: I think he means a laptop with a proper OS ;)

        • I have a E580. I just use the Intel graphics and have never had any problem with heat or throttling, even after hours of continuous video ripping. They supposedly lack sceen brightness, but i run mine at 90%. So no probs for me.
Paid about $1070 for mine and am very happy with it. $863 is a bargain imo.

        • "Is there any laptop that doesn't have a throttling or some other issue?"

I am sure there are plenty but they are probably out of your price range.

        • Mi Notebook Pro. Albeit only a GT 1030. Run mine at +200/1000 and the 8250u fixed at max turbo 3.4ghz with additional power with no throttling at all. Maybe look at their gaming laptops, bit more pricey though

    • e470 and e580 here, SanDisk

  • Can someone please comment if this is a good entry level computer with FHD screen.
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Ideapad-130-15-Notebook-Intel-Co…

    • It is a pretty good option.
The processor is a bit above entry level, you could get an i3 for a bit cheaper and they are perfectly good for your standard tasks (browsing, documents, videos, storing&browsing photos etc)
It may be hard to find a FHD screen though for cheaper, so for $600, I think its a good option.
It does have a spare memory slot, so you can upgrade memory if you're maxing out the 4 GB.
Also, I recommend upgrading the hard drive to an SSD in the near future.

      Do not buy Lenovo

      • 98% positive feedback on their eBay page. I am not convinced by your short statement.

  • Would this be a good laptop for the family to use with occasional gaming (CS:GO, AOE2, Sky Cities)? Along with photo editing?

    • Yes. It would do those jobs quite well.

    All gone. :(

I have had the E480 (i5, RX550) for about a year now. If you intend to use the RX550, have second thoughts. It throttles very hard (I have tried flashing back to an older BIOS that doesn't throttles as hard, using a cooling pad, undervolting and maxing the fan speed to no avail). I don't really play graphically intensive games (LoL and CS:GO) and I have to play CS:GO on the lowest resolution and settings and still get about 80 FPS that drops to 50 FPS. This is not ideal at all as I believe the RX550 is capable of hitting 120 FPS minimum with no throttling. So bear in mind your graphics card will be performing around 50% of its stated capability.

Just bear this in mind if you intend to game with this laptop, if I had known this, I would not have bought this laptop.

    • In all honesty any amd card has heat issues. I have the R9 290 in my PC and in light gaming sessions (csgo, only game I play) the gpu gets up to almost 100% and that's with me modifying it by changing the stock fans to some dual 120mm noctua fans

      • I believe you. BUT I was using a 7+ year old laptop before this (I forgot the exact graphics card but it was a mid-range AMD one, bear in mind mid-range 7 years ago). And that could play CS:GO better on the same settings. Something isn't quite right.

    • How about the battery life as compare to E485? Non gaming.

  • They seem to have restocked. Both now available.

  • Missed out on the E580.

  • gah missed out. Should have grabbed one. got caught up with stuff and forgot to check out.

  • +1

i hope someone put it up here if they restoke

    • +2

They restock but also jack the price…

Edit: nvm, i got an email that they relist the E580, but it is not even the same one, i5 instead of i7 and the price is outrageous. $1399 while still pricing as $1099 in the description

      • i saw that too. I better keep looking then….
