TP-Link TL-SF1005P 5-Port 10/100Mbps Desktop Switch with 4-Port PoE, $49 + Shipping / Free Pickup @ Umart

120

The non-POE switch is a great buy for a basic unmanaged switch @14 at MSY as listed here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/436659#comment-6929579

This is the POE version for those needing this feature.

$49 appears to be Umart's normal price, but it is the lowest price I have been able to currently find on the POE version.
The next best price I've found is $59 @ Mwave, with a bunch of other sellers in the $70-85 range. The best I could find on ebay is $80.

This one is not gigabit, would be good for IP cameras I guess but not much more

Both Umart and Officeworks sell the gigabit version, so you could price match to bring down to $74.10.

      • This is alot faster and better

      • $82 on Amazon

Might be cheaper for some with 5% Cashrewards and Prime shipping. No haggling required.

        And wireless access points.

Not really because this switch isn't gigabit capable. An 802.11ac WAP can transfer faster than 100Mb/s sustained.

    • There would be no point in getting a gigabit poe switch if it was just for connecting IP cameras right?

      • For $30 is it worth not buying the gigabit. Easy to repurpose it if the time arises

100Mbit is still faster than most internet connections, so fine for web browsing, downloading, streaming etc. Only a problem if you need fast local transfer or future compatibility.

      • Depends on what the real world performance of this is. If it’s likely to perform below the rated 100mbit, and most network hardware runs below the advertised rates, and you have a good NBN connection it may still be a slight bottleneck for internet. Not enough to bother most but it could add a small drop. If you’re paying for 100/40 and have POE gear then it’s probably worth just getting a gigabit version.

If you’re on a sub 100mbit plan then yeah, shouldn’t matter.

I agree. If you are going with PoE you might as well spend a few bucks more go for the faster version and not worry about having to upgrade later. By the time you've added the cost of all the things you want to power (cameras, AP, etc), the time and money in setting the cables, is the $30 extra even going to be noticable?
