  • Is there one in Victoria?

I think there's only one in NSW

The Cherry Blue version is perpetually sold at $63 delivered on Amazon with Prime:

The Cherry Red version should be back in stock shortly too. This is a very budget mechanical keyboard, and you really shouldn't pay any more than this for it.

    • Which I the key best for the office and not too loud? All the lists on ebay seem like ads

      • +1

I have tried blue and brown keys. Although blue keys are loud but they are by far my favourite

      • Blue is better for typing because of the clear feedback from the tactile bump in the switch and the clicking feedback at the bottom, but it's also quite loud, while Brown is meant the be the quieter version of that by removing the clicking component (at least until you bottom out on the key, which isn't required in order to type on them). Then there's Reds, which have neither, and everything other switch is built around having some sort of sound dampening feature or a stiffer/light mechanism.

Keep in mind that knock-off versions may have different colour coding systems, so it's important to research them a little before buying. It's also worth finding a store and just testing out those three common variants to get a feel for which one is great for you. But yeah, generally speaking Brown and Blue are the choice for office typing, provided you don't drive your co-workers insane.

Here's a run down guide that'll help as well:

Finally, keep in mind there's optical switches starting to appear on the market, which supposedly offer a significantly improved experience, and it's pretty easy to find a reduced keyboard (i.e. numpad, function keys, etc missing) on eBay with the Gateron Blue optical switches (enthusiasts seem to like their non-optical efforts even more than the Cherry MX series) for a good price via China, but I've not done much research into that myself.

  • logitech g810 is the only mech keyboard i found quiet enough for office use, not sure if made anymore , or if superceded model is available….was never a budget keyboard though, even $120 on clearance.

mechanical keys for open plan offices is always hard to get, even non click can be noisey if you bottom out the keys.
got some some rings of ebay for $1.80 and will do a conversion on one of my other keyboards to see how loud they are.

budget mech keyboards ….once you don’t want the lighting effects there are several mech keyboards in the sub $70 bracket with cherry keys …

sad thing is office keyboard market is dominated by membrane keyboards which are cheap to make and light to ship, so it’s a limited market to sell office keyboards with mech keys, more for byo workers than your IT dept who buys in bulk from hp or dell to put on desks along with the dell or hp laptop and monitor and $5 mouse.

    • Open plan offices are noisy, having the blue keys won't be noticed by anyone.

    • Tell that to guy sitting in the cubicle across from me with his Cherry MX Blues.
