Citi Rewards Platinum Credit Card - Bonus 100,000 points - $49 Annual Fee First Year

320

Was looking for a credit with low/no fee and reward points, came across this one on Finder.com.au

Looks decent considering 100,000 bonus points for $49 only. Not sure how much Citi 100k points are worth, but should be around $400.

To give you an idea of your rewards potential, you could exchange 100,000 bonus Citi Points for 40,000 Velocity Points or make up most of the cost of a $500 Flight Centre voucher (worth 104,200 points).

    From https://www.finder.com.au/citi-rewards-platinum-credit-card-…

    • Flight Centre Voucher makes it a very good deal, imo

  • gets 40,000 velocity or 33,333 singapore krisflyer/emirates skywards

also something that is pretty bad on this card 'The earn rate is capped at 10,000 on domestic spend'. Not great if you wanted to keep it awhile. Annual fee goes back to $149 in 2nd year.

    • +1

agree, thinking to keep it for a year and then close it.

By the way, what is the best way to monetize 500k velocity points that we have got as part of home loan refinancing

      • +1

First class return for two to Singapore. If you're in Sydney you can enjoy Suites in the new A380.

      • Recently one way business class to europe was 85k points each way (170k return) so thats 2 return flights to europe in business perhaps? Plus points to spare. Mind you that was ex Perth.

Out of curiosity, which bank gave you 500k points? Was it NAB?

      • Which bank gives you 500k on home loan refinancing?

        • Virgin home loans, but i thought they gave 20k per 100k borrowed ;)

If it was nab that's not too bad.

        • Sorry, should have been more clear, I refinanced 2 mortgages, which gave around 400k, plus I had 100k from credit cards points ;)

    • Careful. Although the terms indicate annual fee goes to $149, the key facts statement indicate that the fees for Platinum are $249:

Someone, somewhere is not speaking to someone somewhere else in the Citi promo department.

citi are prob the worst ones to deal with.

    • Also shows $249 in current fees and charges for Platinum:

Fees $49 first year checks out. Seems like a good deal?

  • I don't get out of bed for less than 60K points.

But yeah, 40K for $50 is pretty good if you don't want to hit up the larger points amounts that tend to attract higher fees.

And you've already hit up the free St George and the ANZ Adventure card with the flight.

Does anyone know how much Qantas points it converts for?

  • +4

    104,200 points = $500 egift card

    • Sounds good.

Tempted to apply… But previously been rejected by Citibank for other CC's.

  • I notice the Finder credit score referral link above.
Is there any down side to using this service?
Do they use the info to market to you in some way?
I presume they would pay a small fee to Experian for this & I can't see them doing it out of the goodness of their heart.

    • I guess, citi pays them referral bonus. Standard Affiliate marketing.

      • The finder link is in the OzBargain referral, so I presume not related to Citibank & I still wonder what's in it for them. Collecting personal info for marketing?

  • Citibank is seriously a PITA to apply for. even for shit tier low level cards like this.

  • Can someone who has this card clarify the following:

“You'll earn 1 Citi reward Point per $1 spent in Australia and overseas. The earn rate is capped at 10,000 on domestic spend. You can redeem your Citi reward Points for merchandise, gift cards, frequent flyer points with Velocity, Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer, Emirates Skywards, credit back on your account and more.”

Capped at 10,000 Citi reward points per year???

    • +1

I believe it is $10000 spend = 10000 points per statement period.

      • Ok not per year rhen. Makes more sense

  • Have anyone look into "pay with points" option, is it better than redeeming gift card?

    • gift card is best

      • +1

        pay with points, $95 = 22,500 points
        so $500 is ~ 118,000

        direct cashback $500 = 200,000 points

so giftcard $500 at $105,000 is still best value

  • Thanks OP!

  • Don't know if I should make a new deal, but the OP can update this one. Now I'm pretty naive when it comes to CC deals, but now I'm earning a proper paycheck and not being a contractor it makes it easier. I'm looking like OP for low fee card, with points, but also balance transfer.

    https://www.creditcardcompare.com.au/credit-cards/citi-rewar…

According to this, it is $49 annual fee, 200,000 points over 20 months if you spend $1000 a month.

My only concern is how to make a balance transfer and also earn points, with no interest free days. If I have to drop $1000 and login and pay purchases off immediately, or what, to avoid interest.

If you spend $2000 a month, your fee for the second year is halved, to $74.50

Can link to a diners card on same account and get another 10,000 points, and no currency conversion if you use that card for overseas purchases.

Feel free to check my calculations and give your opinion.

For me, this seems to be the choice because they also do Balance Transfer with 0%

  • If I already have a Citi signature card would I still be eligible to apply for this card and get the bonus?

    • thats what im trying to figure out since im in the same situation but cant find it when looking at the website.

  • Is this deal already expired?

Finder.com.au site says it run until 30 June.

  • I have checked with finder. They said this offer is still valid until June.

  • Can I buy gift cards to cover purchase? I am new in the credit card world
