[Error Deal] HSBC Platinum Qantas Credit Card - 60K FF Points with $3000 Spend, First Year $0 Annual Fee, $79 Thereafter

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Been looking for a fee free way to obtain Qantas Points?

This offer provides 60,000 bonus QFF points, after meeting the minimum spend of $3000 in the first 3 months.

Minimum income: $40,000
Minimum credit limit: $6,000

Edit. Thanks everyone. My first deal to hit the first page, and all within 10-15mins. I applied, but awaiting approval.

Remember to cancel before one year is up, to avoid any fees.

Edit. Not sure why it's marked as expired. The Qantas link mentions the 60,000 bonus points… Scroll down to read the fine-print, which redirects to the HSBC website.

This is an exclusive offer via Qantas Offers.

Edit. The fine print on the bottom section of the linked page states the following
"~~ HSBC Platinum Qantas credit card: 60,000 bonus Qantas Points offer is available to new HSBC Platinum Qantas Credit Card holders who spend $3,000 on eligible purchases within three months of card approval. Bonus points will be credited to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account within two months of the minimum spend being met. Eligible purchases exclude business expenses, interest free promotions, interest free merchant purchases, balance transfers and cash advances."

Offer should be live.

Mod: Based on all the evidence, it seems like this is either an old deal (from 2017) or a future deal that is mistakenly on Qantas website. Moved to forum as an error. If an actual offer is confirmed, someone will have to post again.

For those who have applied, I suggest you call up ASAP and tell them to cancel your application so your credit file doesn't get a hit.

  • Will apply today! thanks

  • +2

Have until 31st of March to apply - thanks for the heads up on this offer. Best one I can see at the moment for my circumstances.

  • Plus 1 point for every dollar spent. Makes it a bit better than the basic Westpac Altitude card.

  • +5

Hey all - I have had the card for 3 years, and every year I call up and ask for the fee the be waived which they apply for internally to another department. So been good so far. They still charge the fee, and if that department agrees to waive then they refund following statment. I have no transaction or home loan with them

    • +1

What do you like about the card so much to keep it long term?

      • +3

I guess a QFF card paying 1 point per $1 with refunded annual fees would be a big enough reason to keep it long term.

        • well you'd only do it for the 60k points but theres already an amex qantas card that gives $1 per point and $0 annual fees
i have this atm, think its the amex discovery card

          • @prankster: Amex normally have complex earning rate which varies from 0.5 to 3 points/dollar depending on where you're spending

Also Visa/Mastercard > Amex in terms of acceptance

      • Along with the earn rate, get the the entertainment book for free ! Not sure if they are still doing this. But my login for entertainment hasn't expired so I am still using it. Hopefully this is not a glitch or a loophole.

        • Are you saying that your Entertainment Book app keeps renewing from year to year without payment?

          • @Melburnian: Yea this is my second year. But I think this is a glitch because I tried to log into my wife’s phone with my login details and it says error - but I know it allows up to 4 devices. I guess I just wont update the app through the App Store

    • Thanks for the info! Was looking to pick this up for long term use. This just makes it sweeter.

      https://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/credit-card-reten…

Just read this article a few days ago..

Seems like you cant do that anymore

Quite sad as I normally do the same thing with my card too

  • How do you guys use your Qantas Points?

    • +1

Flight upgrades or round the world flights.

    • +1

      Sell em

    • +1

Can also use them to access good sales on the Qantas Store. Eg: The Sony WH1000XM3 headphones were on special there. Could get them at a great price depending on how many points you were open to giving up

  • +1

Time to cancel my St George card and switch to this. Then hopefully when the points are earned on this one ANZ will have another free card.

    • I'm still waiting to get my points from st george before applying for more cards, my current credit available is too high

      • +1

I’m waiting on my points too. I’m hoping they haven’t messed up. I met the spend requirements in the first month but still waiting for my points, almost 3 months later.

  • Good card. Should I or should I not apply for this? Bye bye credit score…

Already applied ANZ Travels in Jan, St George in Feb. Maybe I'll do this in March…

    • Whats the formula for credit score declining when you apply for a card?
Ive never been able to work this out - more credit lower score? (noob to ccard churning)
      Any clues appreciated.

      • I saw my credit score increase after applying for st george card. weird.

        • hasn't hit your score yet. takes a while.

      • 40~80 drop for every credit enquiry

    • Won't impact on your score if you keep letter showing you cancelled

      You'll be rigbt

    • +5

Or should open a card spend $3k and cancel immediately to give them a ~$540 hit to their profits.

That’ll teach them more than a pious online boycott will…

      • +7

Ah yes Good point. I just signed up.

    • +2

Keep fighting the good fight comrade

    • So you're telling me their funding standards are lacking…
Excellent, should be easy to get approved then… ;)

  • +7

Doesn’t show any bonus points on the page qantas links to. I’m going to wait until tomorrow when they’ve updated their page just to make sure I get the points…

    • you mean after we click the hsbc link, right? correct, nothing about points. weird

      • On the HSBC site it doesn't say any bonus points yeah.

        Best to wait a bit

        • but the link has some special code at the end so maybe legit.

          • +3

@CyberMurning: I asked HSBC. They said they no longer offer that which is why it doesn't show up.

  • My next card after NAB!

  • +3

The St George deal is still on: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/433394

    Positives:
    - More points

    Negatives:
    - Higher minimum spend ($4,000 vs $3,000)
    - Have to deal with St George who seem to randomly reject people for no apparent reason

    • +1

Also majority of Ozbargainers that chase points have already had a St George or BoM or Bank SA in the last year which stops them using that deal

      • ….or got rejected LOL (even though meeting their requirements)..

    • +1

Why not do both? I just spent $4k with the St George card. I'll now apply for this for even more points, unless there's a condition that prevents it? Does anyone know?

      • Only your credit history / rating.

    • I went for the old Amplify deal, which got me 90,000 points. But the nightmare of dealing with them hardly made it worthwhile. So many phone calls, having to email screenshots of the deal (because they had made a mistake), it was just all too hard.

  • is the application process easy?

or is it a massive trek like Citi?

    • +1

also $0 annual fee, this is definitely a go'er for me!

    • +1

Agree, Citibank is just a pain, never ever

  • +1

Thanks OP, next Cc once st George pay off my 80K pts he he…

  • is this a decent card as my first reward/frequent flyer credit card? I earn the 60k-70k range and don't have much points stacked in any program but keen to start.

    • +1

It’s a decent card but St.George card would be better if u earn over 60k as it’s more points and u get lounge passes too.

    • +1

I think the general vibe is yes it is, since it's $1 per point, but keeping an eye on deals like this with bonus points always beats any points that you would earn from your daily spending.

If you're just starting, it's a good idea to keep tract of when you have applied for what card at which bank, as most bank have a 12 month period that you have to wait before you can apply with them again. Note the card type too since different cards from the same bank may be applied within 12 months time.

not an expert by any means, feel free to correct or add on anything I've missed.

      • +3

it's a good idea to keep tract of when you have applied for what card at which bank

You better off keeping track of when you cancel the card as that’s when the 12 months starts.

        • yep, my mistake!! I was thinking about that when i typed that..

  • Hi Guys, would applying for the St George Amplify Signature and this one preclude me from having the other, considering they're both Qantas cards? Thanks!

    • +1

No, u can apply for both providing your credit score allows it.

  • Great card but the app is really limited. Signup process took 4-5 calls over a couple weeks with a team in the Philippines.

  • Would love to but all out of major expenses for the year😢

    • Can always buy Woolworths/Coles gift cards at 5% off using Cashrewards and bring forward money you’d probably spend on groceries later in the year anyway

      • +1

or top up opal card. basically just like cash.

  • Could this be an old deal? I am looking at it from HSBC sites, but nothing about 60,000 Qantas points.

    • well, you need to look from qantas website, thats the deal is coming from

      • +1

I understand but ultimately, it should show on the bank's website.

  • +8

Looks like an old deal. Nothing on their website about it.

Good luck dealing with HSBC getting your points. Rather be sent to Guantanamo Bay

    • Wtf. I applied and got approved.

Since link pic shows bonus points, they have to honor it

Ill be all over the ombudsman if they dont honor it

      • +4

They can just say the HSBC site made no reference to it and they can't be held responsible for a 3rd party website promoting an expired offer

  • +6

The guy on live chat said the points deal expired in december.

    • Good. Hopefully they'll bring it back in a few months after I'm done with STG.

    • +1

i will do live chat tomorrow just do double check, then call qantas team to verify.

  • +1

no mention of the 60,000pts when you read through the details
can anyone confirm if this card does come with 60,000pts

    • No it doesn't

      • what's everyone getting all excited about so?

        • +4

because we can talk together as one big ozb family here

        • +1

The Qantas page says 60k points but it doesn't mention it when you click through to HSBC website

  • How come the HSBC site doesn't say anything about 60k points ?

    • It’s an old deal. Should be deleted.

      • +2

Doesn't look like an old deal. The link from the Qantas page says "Available to new approved customers who apply by 31 March 2019".

        • correct. so best is to call qantas promotion/marketing team to confirm.
the low level hsbc staffs might not aware of this, but the registration link comes with special code so i still think this is legit.

  • what is the value in real $?

    • $600-$660 if you sell them, but can be worth more if you use them for things like round the world flights.

    • +1

Qantas store is worse than 200 points to a dollar (so less than $300).
Flights are generally 50-100 points to the dollar (so $600-1,200).

  • Damn, looks better than my current HSBC Qantas card. Deal for new customers it seems…

  • +1

HSBC gets really bad reviews on product review as does the android banking app. I think I'll pass.

    • Their android app makes everyone else's look light years ahead, even citibank beats it.

Feels like something out of the 90s still lmao.

  • +3

    why marked expired now?
a deal that shouldn't have been posted IMO, misleading.

  • +1

best is to call qantas promotion/marketing team to confirm.
the low level hsbc staffs might not aware of this, but the registration link comes with special code so i still think this is legit.

    • From what i see this is an expired deal.
"60,000 bonus Qantas Points. Apply before 30 June 2018"

      • Click on the link from the Qantas site. It takes you to a HSBC page which states, "Available to new approved customers who apply by 31 March 2019."

        • +3

yep it sure does say that
but whats available doesn't include 60,000 points

  • GAH! Already applied :(

  • +3

    Holy Sh** Bad Card!

  • Why is it marked as expired?

    • -1

Not sure who / why it was marked as expired.

It's definitely still live. (I've just unmarked it.)
