Dometic CoolPower RAPS44 Battery Pack $284.90 Delivered @ Snowys

100

This is is a very basic power pack. But comes in at a good price.

Unlike other popular products this comes with an included 44AH AGM battery:

  • Project Power Hubs: $399 (Anaconda. No battery)
  • Ark Arkpak 730: $479 (BCF. No battery)

Both do come more feature packed. eg. Inverter, USB connection.

If an integrated inverter and USB is a requirement, then this might not be for you.

However, both of those things can be easily added at a later date if you require it.

An integrated solution does make it more portable.

Just a note, 44AH is not very much and would struggle to keep most camping fridges going more than 18-24hrs

    • +1

Agreed 44AH is not a lot. It's claimed to power a portable fridge for about 24hrs. I would definitely pair this with a solar panel in any application though.

    • +1

44AH is effectively 22AH available (no more than 50% discharge otherwise you significantly reduce the life of the batteries). With a typical camping fridge drawing ~1.5 amps/hr, that's less than a day running.

These are good when you're doing overnighters or roadies. Plug the Waeco into the car cigarette lighter, and the fridge into the Waeco.

This paired with a good deep cycle would be better imo. https://www.4wdsupacentre.com.au/adventure-kings-battery-box…

    • If your application requires more grunt then separate components is definitely an option.

    • +2

I think it really depends on your desired result,if you want to go away camping yes you are right but if say like myself you travel long distances over a few days staying at friends and relatives these could be ideal in the back of a small car coupled to say a 40ltr fridge/freezer. Simply plug it in to recharge where you are staying.

      • Exactly. It won't power a campsite running multiple appliances for 3 days. But it'll definitely do light duty stuff perfectly.

    • How much to then add a decent battery though?

      • 105Ah AGM is $209 on ebay. Much better value than this 44Ah unit.

    • Wow!! That's a very good battery box.

      • For $75? What's so good about it?

        • +1

I bought the SCA battery box on special for $50. Its currently selling for $90÷.
          https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/calibre-calibre-power-ba…

Looking at versatility, the SCA has
No USB, no Anderson connectors, and no voltage readout.

I would have preferred to pay the extra $40 to get multiple connectors and readout.

          • @MrMiser: For $40 you could taylor your own extras.

I’d argue you’re better off getting a smaller cap lithium phosphate and sorting a custom arrangement for container and features but I guess it depends how often you use it and what your needs are.

    • @moneymoo Initially, I thought it was just a dumb battery box. After looking at it the second time, it does look like it has been kitted out somewhat. A lot more useful than what is available for about $60 and which is nothing more than a plastic box with two terminals.

  • You also need to add pricing for a 240v to 12 charger if you don't charge via your car

    • +1

Solar is another obvious option. I would imagine most people who are in the market for this product would either already have some solar panels or are intending to get them.

  • +1

The advantage of the Dometic is it's compact size. Shame it's using AGMs and not a Lithium Phosphate which are a lot cheaper than people think.

    • Could you please share were to get the cheaper Lithium Phosphate batteries?

      • I think the point is the price has both come down across the board plus when you assess the particular attributes of LiFePO4 as against AGMs there's not really any competition as to the better value proposition.

Buy half the capacity you would AGM, way faster charging, higher current delivery until virtual exhaustion, way higher charge cycles/overall lifespan, lighter, more compact etc etc

  • +4

Quite a small unit. For longevity, you want to limit discharge to 50%. Yes you can deep discharge AGM but the number of cycles drop.

  • +1

55cents cheaper at Anaconda for club members after Cashrewards.Or you could go in store and claim the 10% lowest price guarantee reduction which should bring the price down to $256.41 https://www.anacondastores.com/camping-hiking/power-cooling/…

    • You're the MVP. $256 is better than $284.

I have this unit. Great for road trips. I plug into the car (pass through), and the fridge stays powered while parked for lunch and dinner. I only charge in room if staying for more than a night.
