New Category for Bargains? (50%+)

Would a section/category for bargains of 50% or more get a go on this site?

As scrolling through the front page with stupid deals of 5% etc and not others not even stating the $RRP or SRP.

No point. Sometimes 5% off is a great deal other times 70% off is still a joke.

If it's a good deal it will get "upvoted" to the top and if it's a crap deal then it'll be nowhere.

In the end, it's the actual price that determines if something's a bargain, not its percentage difference from what are fairly arbitrary RRP numbers.

10% off giftcards > 90% off bottlecap launcher.

  • I wish they would add a eBay category

I don't think you need to post a deal or vote to be eligible to make a suggestion for the site.

Having said that I don't think what OP suggests will improve deal quality.

Voting for deals shows what you believe is a good deal, vs bad deals. It helps to push good deals to the front page, and prevent bad deals from getting much attention. It's basic participation.

In 7 years OP has seen a bargain worth upvoting? I don't know if 50% or more off will satisfy OP

No, but OP should definitely post a deal themselves before flaming other people’s deals.
Show us how it’s done, OP.

  • Merged from New Deal section 50% off.

    Hi all,

Do we need a section for bargains (real bargains) not 5% off etc for things that are 50% or at least 40% off?

    • Is there anything else the community can do for you?

    • +6

50% off can still be a bad deal if it is something that is regularly discounted and no one would pay rrp, or if a store is inflating rrp. 5% off can be a good deal eg on a new smart phone or video game console that has very strict rrp and hasn't yet ever been discounted etc. Good deals get voted up and bad deals don't get voted or get voted down.

Agreed. It's pretty nuanced. Even 40% off at colesworth can be worse than Chemist Warehouse regular prices, etc.

Yeah and 10% off apple products is generally a good deal.

      • This. Better to leave it to the highlighted deals system to you know… highlight good deals.

    • Ideally that real bargains section would be www.ozbargain.com.au anyway

The real bargains are the friends we meet along the way

      • What are you saying? You wouldn't pay full price for my friendship?

    • Real bargains eh?

Feel free to post one, since your deal post count is zero…

      • Friends Spackbace, we are making friends.

        • You don't make friends with salad

          • @spackbace: Please forgive my colleague OP.

There's been a mistake with his order. Someone has accidentally given him the food that his food eats.

      Dupe by you OP.
