  • how heavy is this please?

  • +1

    spec sheet says
    1.91 kgs
    32.6cm(L) X 23.0cm (W) X 2.43cm (min H)/ 3.13cm (max H)

  • Optical Drive: USB Powered External DVD Burner

    it comes with one?

    • +1

Yeah it does. My girlfriend has the same laptop (bought 1.5 years ago for $1100). Looks like this; http://techreport.com/r.x/hp-dv2/optical.jpg

      • wow impressive

        • I just noticed it says bluray on it. The one that comes with this laptop is just DVD.

        • Yeah thought so.

  • Anyone recommend this laptop?

    • for that price, why not

      • I just wondering if it would be a better choice with this one? (http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Com…)

        • No way!

That Samsung is far superior compared to this HP.

        • really depends if you really need 10h battery life

The HP uses a ULV cpu (less powerful) compared to the i5 used by the samsung

        • +2

Discontinued with no stock nationwide - tried to buy it 2 wks ago.

        • how trustworthy is Samsung though?
HP isn't very reliable but is Samsung any better and how good is warranty claims process?

    • +2

Yeah, got it about 2 month ago for around $748, and its a great laptop. USB CD drive is good even though it may be a little bit slow, and it comes with 32bit windows so you might need to switch to 64bit if you want to use all the RAM. No overheating problems and battery life is great if its its settings are all turned down. The case isn't as much of a fingerprint magnet as other laptops (mouse is terrible for fingerprints though). Another good thing is that the power pack is smaller than most. Highly recommend.

I've used this for around 7 months before getting a different model. Bought mine from JB for over 1K. Very solid notebook, a worthy recommendation for those looking for portable ULVs. Also worth noting is this model is actually quite good for gaming as well. As an idea the types of games I've played on it include: Bulletstorm, COD: MW2, Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age 2. All in all this ULV will be suitable for those seeking a lightweight notebook with a bit of gaming capabilities.

please be aware that by all means you cannot get the 10hrs battery life quoted in the specs.

I had this model (but with integrated graphics) and it only lasted about 5hrs with everything set to low (bluetooth off) but wifi on, no videos or music just a word document and an internet browser open. The only way it can achieve the 10hrs is if you leave it on idle….

Another point worth mentioning is that the trackpad on this thing is woeful. I'm not sure if the issue has been fixed via a driver or not though…

But other than that I guess it's an 'okay' price for a 13.3" notebook (sadly the processor is equivalent to a 2006 budget core duo cpu). However, the postage kills the deal IMO.

    • Agreed, the trackpad is horrible to use. Not just the software side of it, but the actual texture of the trackpad makes it very hard to use. It also heats up a fair bit.

      • Agree as well regarding trackpad… almost unusable! Be prepared to carry a mouse wherever you go.

  • tossing up this laptop with the ASUS 1215N which is a little bit more expensive..
    any thoughts please?

  • We have this other deal, its a 15" Asus laptop with dedicated graphics, just in case you missed this
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/43775

    • a bit off topic but will mln be stocking 1215b?

  • I have this exact laptop. I bought it from MLN at the end of last year for like $700. It's been running perfectly since. One thing to note it doesn't have 10hrs of battery life as HP claims it has, at max settings I get around 3-ish hours with it (Don't know about other settings, haven't really played with it).

    • The max we got out of the battery was 7.5 hours if anyone has done better let me know. HP has assured us many times it's up to 10 hours, we just dont know how.

according to cnet reviews from user, it seems to be pretty crap. People say its a slow machine and lags alot and little issues here and there….

    • +3

i very rarely comment but this strikes me as a particularly useless comment… what 'user'? slow for what purpose? lags a lot in what? WHAT ISSUES??? Is there any evidence for anything you're saying? I can't believe you even took the time to type this out…

      • +2

        This comment made me lol.

        (Agreed, btw)

      • +1

        Much PMS?

      • relax ur ball sacks dude…. i did say users from 'cnet' did i not? not need to overeact
http://www.cnet.com.au/hp-pavilion-dm3-339299542.htm - check the comments here, that is the evidence….
i can't believe you even took the time to type this out….

        • no need to overeact*

    • +2

That's a different model dude, with integrated graphics. I will recommend if you're buying the DM3 to remove all the crapware it comes loaded with. I've used the exact model OP posted and it ran flawlessly with regular maintenance, ie defrag weekly etc. Like I mentioned above, this model is powerful enough to run most recent games smoothly as well.

I can see how the review for your model is saying its slow especially if the reviewers are using the model with integrated graphics to play DoTA. Also with regards to the functions keys, yes by default you have to press the "fn" key + "F1-F12" to get the function number, but you can change it in the BIOS so you don't have to press the "fn" key all the time.

      • The model we are selling is the top of the line DM3
other versions mentioned here were originally a lot cheaper to begin with and were the entry level versions.

  • How does this compare with the lento thinkpad edge 13 (4gb ram version) that came down to $610 (with a bonus 500gb hdd) with the 10% off sale a few days ago?

  • I'm waiting for an amazing deal on the DV6-2119TX (hopefully there will be a massive discount like there was 2yrs ago for the DV3 :P).

  • The video from HP, on the MLN page, stated a battery life of 7hrs. It also said the laptop is GPS enabled. Is that an add on you reckon, or does this $548 model actually have the GPS…?

Very nice for an portable, for people who don't use the laptop for heavy tasks.

I like that Samsung QX310-S01, but it is $250 more.

    • The video is a video for a slightly different version, the idea is to have a look at the DM3 chasis overall. GPS and other featutres consume more power, this version we are selling does not have GPS.
I have a PDF spec sheet from HP that has over 6 different versions on their. The info provided by HP is generic, please refer to the specs listed on our website only.

  • what nvidia is it? 330m?

    • g105m

  • CPU is 2 generations old.

  • Nice notebook at a good price.

I almost bought one, but the fan noise is like a hairdryer, and its almost always on full blast, even when the laptop is idling.

  • any idea how many watts the laptop uses on average?

  • +1

Can someone pls tell me if this notebook is made in USA? or is it made in China?

    • Most of the silicon and components would be produced in China. Assembly could either be in USA but regardless of where its 'made' you can say that most of it is china made.

      • +2

I have not seen a made in USA computer for 5 years

        • +2

My PC-XT 8088 25 years ago already Made In Taiwan

  • Hm, I don't really need a laptop right now; my netbook's not dead.. yet. Should I buy this or wait for something cheaper? And will this play HD movies without lag?

    • +1

It's not a saving if you don't need it.

  • when does this offer end? looking to purchase it just before claiming GST rebate at airport.

    • While stocks last, so could be soon. I recommend putting it on layby then you can get it 30 days from take off

  • @spawnpoint
Hp unreliable?… Hp is one of the best computer manufacturers. There equipment is used in hospitals around the world. I know there was HP equipment being used when i got my surgery done 6 months ago. If they use it in hospitals it should be very trustworthy. As for samsung, never used one of there laptops myself but there TVs are superb!
