Samsung Galaxy S9 64GB / Pixel 2 XL 64GB - $799 @ JB Hi-Fi

1650

Prices are only available today (Saturday 23rd Feb) in store and online, but I’m not sure if the online prices will run through until midnight.

Seems like a good price for Australian stock. Given the S10 has an RRP of $1349, I’m not sure how much more the S9 will drop in price. The S9’s are unlocked Telstra handsets, meaning they are unlocked and compatible with any network, but will have a Telstra start screen and some preinstalled Telstra apps.

any deals for note 9 dual sim?

  • Is there any market for second hand high spec phones that are not Samsung or iPhone?

I think I'm about to give up on finding the perfect phone for me and just switch to Samsung. The camera and screen is just too nice (my wife is a Samsung fanatic, so I've had plenty of exposure).

I want to buy this one, but can't really justify it since I upgraded to Sony xz2 compact last year ☹️

    • Someone sold a second hand Sony XZ2 compact on feeBay last December for $499 (that was a dual SIM model though). New ones are fairly popular on feeBay still. Not sure whether you were offered no fee listing from feeBay until March 1st (but you should be at least able to take advantage of $1 weekend listing deal).

Best to ask a friend that have access to Samsung EPP (with 35% off).

One question I'd have about the S9 is how the Telstra variant compares to unbranded for updates. Last time I had a Telstra-branded Samsung, updates were delayed because they had to go through an additional process at Telstra. Is that still the case?

    • apparently the OP (now deleted for being duplicate) of another deal got one from OW and said it wasn't Telstra branded so maybe that's the way to go. And cheaper too.

    • Never had a Samsung, but can't you just flash a global ROM? Most other Androids do this.

  • I'd go the JB hifi deal, using $200 gift card from previous deal…..but Telstra branded and undeletable apps?
How annoying is that going to be??

  • I just purchased in store at Officeworks to upgrade wifes S7. She'll be going overseas in a couple of weeks, so should be able to claim TRS as well. Thanks a lot OP.

  • Thx for the posting the deal and for the idea to price match OW, just got it from there for $755.

I have been holding out since S5 and am thinking whether to go to S8,9 or 10. Do S8/9 owners think the 10 is a decent step up?

I have the note 8. But if I were in your position I would just get the S10. Considering your upgrading like 5 generations it is well worth the money. You get a few extra features like better camera setup, in-display fingerprint sensor…etc

In saying that if you don't have the budget for the the S10 line up, the S9 is still a decent phone. Don't get the S8 because you will won't get much updates. You will probably have to wait a long time for the big Google updates.

      • @rosrav thanks for your advice! I do plan on holding onto it for a while so I guess getting the latest tech is ok since if I wait a year until it goes down, it will be a year sooner that I'll want/need to upgrade.

    • I was never really a Samsung fan until S8. Read all the reviews and tested display models to no end. S9 would have been my go to phone but I prefer vanilla Android, hence I have a 2XL. Picked it up for $799 a couple of months ago and absolutely love it. The S10 specs and materials are a step up from the S8/9. If your finances allow then definitely go for it. But as I stated a few posts above $800 is the perfect price point for a flagship smartphone. As such, the S9 is a great buy now. Had I not purchased the 2XL I would have picked up the S9 and installed One UI.

      • @juliank an s10e would get close to $900 with TRS as I'm going away soon. But then again S9 at OW would come in at $675!

Even more reason to pick up the S9.

It is better to consider the S10 (or S10+) instead of S10E. S10E is wide screen 1080p (not 1440p) and the cheapest one has less RAM as well (no ultrasonic fingerprint reader). I am considering S9 Plus, but only because I don't like a notch or a cutout on the display. However Snapdragon 855/7nm is certainly better and the AMOLED screen appears to have proper HDR support (with the CPU/GPU now capable of encoding/decoding HDR contents).

          • @netsurfer: You don't get snapdragon in Australia, only Samsung's own chips.

Bought the 2XL. Camera software and vanilla android is too good to pass up on

    Hi Guys
Called Harvey Norman and price matched at 799 dollars; paid by domayne gift cards saved, when amex deal was on.
Net cost 649 dollars with TRS claim bringing down to around 577.
    Very happy with purchase.
You may chat Harvey Norman online if still got domayne gift cards

    Good luck

      Nice OzBargaining!

  • S9 will drop in price there's no need to rush. In a few months it might go around $700

  • It's already $649 for people with Samsung EPP access.

  • Back to $999
