Samsung Galaxy S9 64GB / Pixel 2 XL 64GB - $799 @ JB Hi-Fi

1650

Prices are only available today (Saturday 23rd Feb) in store and online, but I’m not sure if the online prices will run through until midnight.

Seems like a good price for Australian stock. Given the S10 has an RRP of $1349, I’m not sure how much more the S9 will drop in price. The S9’s are unlocked Telstra handsets, meaning they are unlocked and compatible with any network, but will have a Telstra start screen and some preinstalled Telstra apps.

    Price matching at OW perhaps?

    • +12

Then OW probably will give excuses not to price match because it’s not identical, jb’s are Telstra variant whereas ow’s are retail unbranded…

      • +1

ow is pricematching grey now - so there's a chance they will since jb is one of their biggest competitors

        • Wait what??? Are you sure they price match grey stock? Why in world are we debating whether they match JB's aussie stock…

      • +2

Pricematch success! I've posted it as a deal so you can all enjoy not having to fight the OW staff. Surely they can't argue with pricematching themselves!!!

        • Sorry I accidentally removed your scan before I made a copy in the description. After editing your deal to conform with the posting guideline it becomes a duplicate and I think it will be unpublished soon. Can you re-post the link to your receipt here please?

    • +10

I hate to ask for price matching in store, they think we are begging them and they are giving a favour by accepting the price match. And dodgy stores tell BS reasons to refuse the price match. Buy at the cheapest store to support them and stop shipping around for price matching.

        Hand in your Ozbargain license

  • Surely not? It's still aussie stock is it not?

    • JB only sells Australian stock.

      • sorry i meant to reply to cloudie9. im pretty sure OW will price beat.

  • Telstra varient only, device is unlocked.

    • Yep, it’s in the description.

Heads up.. Samsung Enhanced Partner program has S9 64Gb listed for $649. With S9+ 64GB for $749.

I noticed someone else had posted with different prices for the same. It might vary depending on the company.

    • So they have the galaxy buds listed?

      • +1

I can see the s10/10+ models listed, but no galaxy buds/new smartwatches

      • Hey mate… none of your links would work bcoz you need to login in. Maybe post screenshots.

I noticed the prices do vary depending on the company.

          https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/25097/67041/s9-epp-1.j…

          Samsung S9 64GB - $649.35
          Samsung S9 Plus 64GB - $746.85

          FYI:
          Galaxy S10e (pre-order) 128GB - $959.20
          Galaxy S10 (pre-order) 128GB - $1,079.20
          Galaxy S10+ (pre-order) 512GB - $1,479.20

higher storage size models available, but I only listed the smallest ones.

          • @netsurfer: wow! even with OW match and a TRS this would be cheaper!

I need friends that work for these companies!

      • can you do a a screen capture? I can only see 20% off RRP for the S9 64GB which brings it down to $799.20

Hmm thanks for the screen capture. I think maybe government partner only get less discount

      • +1

Thanks - doesn't look to be available for Telstra EPP :(

      • If you buy one through EPP today, how soon can they deliver? I might ask a mate to get one through his work.

        • It says one business day (processing time). I suggest you ask your mate to check first (for the price) and think it through over the weekend. There is no advantage ordering it on the weekend.

    • Does OW price beat against Samsung EPP prices?

      • Obviously not, they need to be able to buy the deal

    • +7

Thanks. I work at ANZ and I showed someone at my local Officeworks this offer. Got the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus 64gb price matched for $709.51.

But that guy was having trouble checking the prices on his phone. So he just used mine. He had no idea I was on ANZ EPP website!

      • Hi rosrav, are you able to upload your receipt so we can go price match off your receipt?

        • +1

There is the receipt (I just cut off the payment information)

          https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/238257/67053/officewor…

          • +2

@TechNerd: Hey bro, if it’s not too much of a hassle could you do the bocked out receipt with the barcode as they aren’t accepting it as is

            • @Hunterxx: rosrav was lucky. Didn't work for me (showed them on my phone - Samsung AU EPP site). They checked against Samsung Web site. They wanted the barcode too as they simply disagreed that it was a price match against Samsung Web site.

Congrats to rosrav. However, if you do decide to try, keep your expectation low.

            • +2

@Hunterxx: Here is the actual receipt with the barcode.

On a side note - there is no more stock at the store I picked this up at. This was the last one. I saw "low stock" in the morning only at this store. There was no stock anywhere else around me. So I had to drive a bit to get this one. But still worth it.

  • +3

Great price! I still have my Google Pixel XL 2. Highly recommend it. Was literally a steal at $59 a month last yr on Telstra

    • This was the only price it was worth it at. I've gone through so many quality issues and replacements I couldn't recommend it over the s9 at the same price, s9 is significantly better anyway

      • Issues with the charging port?

  • +7

Perfect price point for flagship phones.

  • +1

    Hopefully Amazon will match.

  • Anyone else having issues with click and collect? Or is this one day sale not available with click and collect?

    • Works for me

  • I have purchased at ow hust now with price beat

    • +1

Do you have to go in store to ow to price beat? And what did your price come down to?

      • You can do it via phone

        • What are we telling them to price match $749 for the +

They can't see the price via EPP links

      • I went in store and they matched and beat jbhifi $799 price. Paid $759.05 for s9 64gb black.

  • I've had to give my V30 to the wife, how's the battery life on this?

The V30 was stellar. Easily 7 hours SOT with my usage (2+ hours music listening with the DAC, 1.5 hours watching, rest browsing and calls)

    • That's pretty impressive, but I am confused with the 2+ music listening. SOT is only screen on time for me, with calls and music not really included in it is it?

      • +1

Sorry - the Quad-DAC supposedly uses battery more when powering high impedance headphones. So, even with the screen off, I was still using the battery more than if it was sitting idle.

So it can kinda be 9+ hours total usage which is so impressive. The G6 had to be recharged multiple times throughout the day.

        • +1

S9+ will get you much better battery life. If you can achieve that on the v 30 you will get better on the s9+. FYI no use saying sot times a they are entirely personal use based and you can't compare

          • @onlinepred: True, I do not play games, but watch a lot of media. I've never been able to get that kinda longevity.

Why do you say S9+ will be better?

            • @giventofly: Just have a look at some battery tests, it puts the s9+ well ahead of v30.

S9+ will have better screen, better speakers, better battery, better software, way better cameras, and in a great looking phone with no notches.

              • @onlinepred: Don’t forget though, v30 was only 430 and s9 is 799

                • @[Deactivated]: And a m1a2 is $250…. V30 is old and doesn't really compare, was a great phone back in the day, if all you want is a budget phone there are cheaper and faster right?

  • Are they duel SIM models?

    • No

    • +7

I've never seen fighting SIM cards, so the answer is No.

      • +1

What if you put a Telstra SIM and an Optus SIM together? Might then become duel SIM..

  • Slightly off-topic - sorry. Can anyone comment on the Note 8 for $748.80 from AllPhones eBay store?

    • +5

Why not wait for Note 9 price to drop a little, it's going to drop soon as release for new note comes nearer.

      • thanks for the input :)

      • Note 10 is still ~6 months away and the Note 9 sells for $1200 on sale at the moment.

Depends on use case, of course. If you need a new phone now, better off getting the Note 8 for $750 than a Note 9 for $900 in a few months. If you don't need a new phone now, wait for the better battery and fixed finger print sensor.

      • I bought a Note 9 in Oct for $927 at Officeworks with a price beat. You could keep trying stores till you get a friendly or lazy salesperson who will agree to price beat an online deal.

Toby Deals had note 9 for $999, with a $20 off code for a while after Black Friday sales. I googled the part number form officeworks and Toby deals price showed as a google ad which must have had the same part number in the ad or page somewhere. Easy then to click and see the pop up banner with the discount. Persistence pays eventually

        • Hey last time I went it didn’t work, did you go to the checkout and did it or somewhere else, also did they call the manager/supervisor

  • +1

Long time pixel user, but now I prefer S9 with One Ui over pixel.

  • +3

Still running my S7 Edge. Want to upgrade to S9 Plus but don't want to spend over $500. So guess I won't be buying a new phone until at least 2022

    • +1

my S7 edge is starting to lag a bit and is sometimes unresponsive :(
you can sometimes find good deals on facebook marketplace

      • I've heard from people who've had both, that while hte S9 looks better on paper(obviously), its not that much better.

        • I'll just keep using the 7 edge until it dies

          • @Joey Jo Jo: I plan to do the same. I am very tempted by Woolworths s10 deal but decided to keep using my S7E till it dies or become unusable. The biggest issue will be the battery but till now it's going great so hopefully, I should be able to get another year out of it then buy s10 on a deal next year after s11 is released

      • +2

I backup then factory reset my Edge every few months. It can really fix up the issues you've described and really extends battery life.

        • How much of a hassle is this? Thinking about doing the same with my s7 edge

          • @Ronson: No hassle, there's two things to backup, backup your Google content and your Samsung content. I do mine at the pub on their wifi. If you haven't done it before you will be amazed at how much faster the phone is and how much more battery life you get.

            • @Joey Jo Jo: Do you have to re-enter all your app logins and settings after a factory reset? Are there ways to back these up?

              • +1

@BuyNow Think Later: I use Samsung pass with my finger print and that data is backed up. Just remember backing up samsung data is different to backing up Google data. Do both and you're covered. Samsung data is not much at all and backs up really quickly

  • +1

    No hole punch camera :)

    • We've managed alright for the last decade

    • +1

      Why is that important?

      • +1

Because a black hole in the corner of the screen would be annoying af?

  • Crap… just bought a used S9 for 500 lmao I got ripped off
    The bargain hunter got hunted

    • +9

Dats still 299 dinero cheaper than the price being posted here, so I don't think its that bad.
If its in mint condition and/or 6 months old or less I'd almost say that's pretty decent.

    • How used? Damaged screen?

  • I just bought my wife the s9 from JB for $1149 :-( it looks so much better than my s7, It looks, runs and feels amazing in comparison. Currently looking into buyer protection or whatever it is through HSBC credit card.

    • +1

S9+ user here, I used to dislike Sammy's skin and jank (Had a Note 4, S6, missus had the S4 so was familiar with the older stuff, I fixed it via XDA lol) but since the S8 onwards they have really cleaned up their act. There is zero need to root/custom now, plenty fast and smooth.
It was a massive diff between the S7 and S8 IMO. S9 even more so obviously.

    • +3

Why on earth would you have ever paid that much for one - especially with the recent S10 release.

      • It was shiny

      • +2

Her phone was stolen and she doesn't care for the latest like me. Couldn't wait until March for a phone either

    • +1

Personally I still love my S7, especially the size, and have no desire to "upgrade" any time soon.

      • Wouldn't mind upgrading my S7 but don't want a bigger phone :-(
