  • Would i be able to use this to connect my speakers to my monitor. So that is plays sound from the sound from the speaker rather than monitor?

    • Changes are that if your monitor has speakers (or even if it doesn't), it has a 3.5mm output on it somewhere. My monitor does, and it gets the sound from HDMI.

      • +1

The 3.5mm output on your monitor is going to be poorly amped and poorly shielded. It's not designed for headphone use. You can use it, but it will sound terrible and scratchy most likely.

        • That is true, although the DA converter in this device may also not be that good. And the monitor out may have volume control, whereas this device is a "line out" making it unsuitable for many headphones.

I have a small device for converting SPDIF to 3.5mm out (because my tv won't output to 3.5mm out with HDMI sources) but it has a very good DA converter with excellent sound quality (better than the tv itself).

    • it should be able to (I have a similar hdmi switch). But you have to mute/turn off the speakers on your monitor though or you'll have both sound coming out of the monitor and external speakers.

    • You should be able to change the default audio device to your speakers rather than HDMI device. Control panel —> Sound —> Right click HDMI device and select disable

    • Actually no. It can only extract the digital audio signal embedded in HDMI sources (like PS4, Blu-ray)and convert it through 3.5mm analog audio output and SPDIF output at the same time.

      • Which means he can use it as long as his monitor uses HDMI, right? And as long as the computer is configured to send audio along with the HDMI signal.

        • No, monitor is a receiver instead of an HDMI source. HDMI sources are Blu-ray/ DVD/ HD player, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, PS3/4, Xbox, PC/laptop, HD camera, HD DVR etc.
          For examples:
          1. PS4—-HDMI Cable—-This HDMI Audio Extractor(HDMI Out)—-HDMI Cable——Monitor or TV (video)
          2. PS4—-HDMI Cable—-This HDMI Audio Extractor(Optical or 3.5mm Audio Out)—- Speaker or Amplifier (audio)

          • @NothingOnU39: I know a monitor is a receiver, but the whole point is to put this thing in between, isn't it? I believe that is what infinity03 is trying to accomplish (even if it is not expressed accurately).

  • Does this support 4k@60Hz (3840x2160)? HDMI 2.0?

edit: Seems like it can't do 4K even 30Hz with 4:4:4 based on the bandwidth specs.

    • It can support up to 4K@30HZ 4:2:0 with Max bandwidth: 225MHz

      • Hi, what does this mean exactly, would it not allow 4K to pass through, if it was above the specs you mention?

  • I bought one of these a few weeks ago for $25.99. I use it to send the HDMI output of my MiBoxS to TV and DTS/Dolby sound to my Sony amp via optical-toslink. It took me a while to get it working properly, but now it does, it's truly amazing. Means I can now watch 4K/2K MKV files with Dolby/DTS audio and have it in in full home theater/surround sound 5.1.

  • i guess this is nice when u dont have anything that takes hdmi audio in…..

hmmm, no 8 individual analogue channels out, only stereo out?

    • can 6 individual analogue channels out (5.1)

      • Yeah but I wanted one with 8 (7.1) ….

Still that's not what you described in the post anyways…..and where are the other plug holes for the other 4 channels? i don't see them in the picture….unless that 3.5mm audio out hole combines all 6 channels inside it which will be split into its individual cables and plugs?

  • Would this work with a sonos beam to split the audio?

    • Yes, your HDMI source—-HDMI Cable—-This product(Optical out)—-sonos beam

  • .. is there a power supply with this unit???

    • No, only with one USB Charging Cable
