Apple iPhone XS 64GB (New, Probably Grey Import) $1349 + Shipping @ Phonebot

80

Seems a decent price if you're in the market for it. Colour is space grey, listed as brand new. Model number is listed as A2101, which seems a tad odd, as a quick Google search suggested that was an XS Max number. Details claim 256gb memory, which is undoubtedly incorrect.

Shipping is $10 for NSW metro, apparently free pickup available from Melbourne.

No experience with the seller, so can't advise as to their reliability.

New, as in not pre-owned or refurbished.

Haven't used the seller either but they have been on this site before, including with a store rep. So they would be fine.

      unsure… check Shopmonk store rep..

Just thought I should share my experience with grey import. 16 months back I bought an iPhone 8 Plus from shopmonk and have had the worst experience as a consumer on the land of Australia. Shopmonk too, has a store rep on ozbargain, who was initially responsive but eventually banned by Ozbargain mod.

Sep2017: bought the phone from shopmonk
Sep2018: 1 year warranty for grey import ends
Nov2018: iPhone motherboard started dying, the phone keeps restarting
Dec2018: Apple Chadstone conformed it is a motherboard issue, will not replace my phone because it is out of 1-year warranty (and not eligible for 2 year warranty because it is not AU stock)
Dec2018: Engaged with Shopmonk, they don’t answer phone calls, and never answer my emails
Jan2019: Reported to Consumer Affairs. Few days later, Shopmonk contacted me asking what happened. Shopmonk offered to take my phone back, and diagnose the issue
Feb2019: Consumer Affairs finishes their investigation, Shopmonk is an overseas company, the Australian consumer law (compulsory 2 year warranty) does not apply to Shopmonk (WTF!!)
Feb2019: Shopmonk finished their ‘diagnosis’, they came back with an invoice from Apple Highpoint, suggesting the phone is dead because of liquid damage. They quoted $500 to pay for repair

    Riddle 1:
First off, Apple Chadstone confirmed my phone had faulty motherboard, but became a liquid damage after Shopmonk took the phone back. What happened during the ‘diagnosis’? It became a ‘user caused’ fault that Shopmonk will not help but rather ‘offer’ a quote to repair

    Riddle 2:
Apple iPhone 8 Plus is a WATERPROOF phone. How did water get into internal part of the phone? I have never brought my phone to shower or swimming or anything of that sort. I’m unsure how my use of the phone resulted in Water damage to a Waterproof phone

    Moral of the story:
Not everyone had the same experience. But I’m just sharing mine so that you’re aware what the risks are.

I learned this the very hard way. But As confirmed with Consumer Affairs: Any goods, sold in Australia but by an Overseas Owned company like Shopmonk, is not governed under Australian Consumer Law. Any goods, sold in Australia by Australian Owned company, is governed under Australian Consumer Law.

Phonebot according to their website is an Australian Company based in St Kilda. Grey Import phones will have minimum 2 year warranty even if the merchant refuses to honour it (just speak to Consumer Affairs and they have comply). Of course all this will he subject to the fact that the company is really an Australian company, not an Overseas Owned Company based in St Kilda

    • Is this an Australian company? Do we know it is a grey import? Also, it gives model number for xs max, so thats weird.

    • Water damage is apple's most commonly used excuse to make the damage user's fault. Also the phone is not waterproof just water resistant. That's why any water damage is not covered by warranty.

      • yeah water resistant with some IP rating that got liquid damage during Shopmonk’s diagnosis..

  • In December of last year you could’ve got a AU model brand new for $1392 from mobileciti

  • Seen this two nights ago and I'm very unsure if the phone is going to be brand new or a repackaged Grade A+ refurbished (it does state brand new on website I'm just not 100% convinced)

    • Just wait until mobileciti have another sale or if eBay have 10% off voucher coupon.

      • 10% off iPhone xs is still only $1466 which is $100 more than Phone not. I'm thinking of just getting S10+ for $1274 as I have access to Samsung education store

  • Now the Samsung 128gb 10e has been announced and its ships soon at US$750/AU$1199 with awesome wireless headphones its stupid not to buy it over this or the XR. In almost every metric that matters its a better phone, camera and screen. Not to mention size and value as Mobi have it on ebay for $1019 without earbuds! Apple have gotten too greedy for words and god forbid you drop it and break a screen and you can bin any iPhone now if you break the back! INSANE … A mobile phones worth maybe $250-600 (low end to high) but top end phone are worth <$900 max IMO

If they're locked into the Apple eco system, there's no getting out.

They have 10 years worth of purchased apps they will lose access to if they switch to Android. That's the ace up the sleeve Apple has on ~95% of their customers.

It's very rare you see an iPhone user jump ship. It happens, but maybe one in every 100. And it's most likely someone who didn't buy many apps.

  • so much money for only 64gb which will be taken up so quickly ,256gb should be the minimum on these phones

    • Depends on what you use it for.
