    I've never flown with Scoot before, so I was wondering how are people's experiences flying with them (in regards to service, baggage, food, seating)? How are they compared to Jetstar?

      Seats are comfortable (I'm 5'10"), no onboard entertainment, you can't bring food from outside (the FAs will warn you when they see you eating outside food).

        So strict rule, isn't it? I usually bring snacks or bread on Jetstar, without any warning from airline staff.

          I feel that the seats are wider with better leg room, back rest is better as well if compared with other budget airlines in asia.

        Yes u can't bring food..lol last time I booked prem economy and brought in some vodka (the tiny ones)…started drinking then got told off.

        Even in business class. Was flying to Singapore a few weeks back and the FA slapped the food out of a guys hand and yelled at him. That was my last trip with Scoot. She would get no commission from items bought on board so had no incentive to do that short of just wanting to be an idiot.

      They wouldn't give me tap water via refilling my water bottle. Despite their in flight guides recommending to stay dehydrated.

      That and their extremely expensive onboard food, they are fine as a budget airline but very much at the end of my list.

      That website is painful to read. I don't get why these countries don't hire one of the thousands of Vietnamese that studied in English-speaking countries.

      And I just want to remind people to always check Smarttraveller for visa acquisition tips. I've had to use alternate methods en route but the majority of people just need to know the scam-free method.

          Yeah I get that. I just assumed that those that inevitably don't make it in foreign owned companies would end up in government jobs anyway and they'd feel comfortable in such a job (assuming all communist jobs pay around the same).

      Worth a trip into the city and see the sights. We hired a bike through one of the share bike app thingos and did a self-guided tour of the bay. We also hit up chinatown for that big food hall (hawker chan wasnt open, unfortunately) and also Jumbo's in Clarke Quay later in the night for some chilli crab. If you're into shopping then Orchard road might be of interest to you as well.

      I always say Saigon, even when Vietnamese are using HCM, so some of us do it 🙂 I find most people in Saigon called it Saigon. It was those outside the city that called it HCM.

      Personally I would recommend Ha Noi as it is more authentic, somewhat smaller and I find it more interesting in general and having more sights to see.

      For anyone that's traveled to anywhere in SE Asia before, the major cities in Vietnam will have very little appeal. I'm not the type to suggest places but let's just say getting consistently charged 5 times or more for food was less aggravating in the "chilled" areas (my go-to trick of passing over the same money as the local before me and asking for the same didn't work in Vietnam, though this was at least 4 years ago). In terms of value-for-money, it was painful when I discovered after a few weeks that it was cheaper for me to eat in a "local" restaurant (with menus not especially made for foreigners) than to subsist on almost empty, over-priced bánh mì. If accommodation was expensive I don't think many people would bother with Vietnam at all.

      Thank you for reminding me why Vietnam has one of the lowest return rates of any destination in SE Asia. I almost couldn't resist the price!

      This is what I heard for 5 hours straight in Hanoi (no exaggeration). "Want motorbiiiiike? Hashish? Boom-boom?!"

      If you have the time, fly into one & home from the other (assuming this deal allows that).
      Internal flights in between are really cheap.

      Hanoi is beautiful especially if you stay around the lake over a weekend. They close all the roads around the lake and there are people performing, people playing music and generally just having a good time. I absolutely love it!

    So for someone who hasn't been overseas in many, many years… I assume I need to enter my passport number when booking any flight?
    And how can I adjust the length of the Singapore stopover - seems you can't do it on IWTF, and Skyscanner (where you can enter a multi-trip) doesn't result in fares the same price…

      where are you flying from and to ? scoot has some long layovers in Singapore .
      If you do a multi city flight it will be much more expansive.

        Well, I was interested in that HCM/Hanoi flight from Perth but I'm really very flexible - I wouldn't mind leaving from Melbourne then returning to Perth tbh. Or going somewhere else in Asia!

        A long layover is exactly what I'm looking for - is there a way to search for the flights that have the long layovers in Singapore?

          looks like you can get a day easily. how long do you want the layover ?

          alternatively book the singapore > ho chi minh or other asian destination as its own ticket allowing plenty of time for delays.
