This or a Hisense P6 4K 55inch? Both the same price

    • This is 60".

      • I know, dont mind if the TV is a bit smaller as using a 42inch atm, was just wondering which panel would be better quality mostly.

Should say it will mostly be used as a Netflix tv so which ever has the best integration will be important.

        • +3

LG is probably a better buy.

          • @fchis: Just got a Hisense 55-inch P6 for $639, think it will have to do at that price!

          • +1

@fchis: The Hisense is better value i'd say but bigger screen size rarely hurts! On the flip side they could put the saving towards an nVidia shield TV next time they are on sale.

  • Hi!
Is it normal warranty only 1 year?

    • I believe so. Standard 1 year warranty

    • +6

Doesn't matter, ACL will help you up to around 7/8 years after buying a TV.

      • what do you mean? I bought a Sony TV from the good guys 4 years ago and it is now not working at all.
Can I bring it back and ask replacement? I thought only Costco offers 5 years money back warranty only if you continuously buy the membership

        • +2

Australian Consumer Law. Goods must last for a reasonable period of time. You need to approach the retailer and make them aware of your rights under the ACL, and request a remedy from them.

          https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/consumer-rights-guarantees…

          • @thatguyfromthatplace: What this guy said. Have a series 6 55" 4k samsung tv That blew up from lightning about 4 months ago. Warranty expired over a year ago. I was happy to pay. The samsung tech just needed my recipet to confirm He fixed it for fee and mentioned the reasonable period. Can't complain!

            • +1

@Dreamcast: ACL guarantee wouldn't cover lightning surge so omit that detail, keep it simple and say it stopped working which is accurate.
PS I mean that as general advice, not to dreamcast who got the repairs in his case.

            • @Dreamcast: Why did this post get negged? Great experience from samsung tech support!

            • +2

              @Dreamcast: Very lucky.

It's almost impossible to get Samsung to repair anything that is still under warranty, nevermind out of it!!

        • ACL says that items have to last a reasonable amount of time. If not, you're entitled to a repair/replacement. So it basically comes down to whether or not 4 years is reasonable based on the cost and size of the tv

          • @[Deactivated]: It all comes down to whether the supplier wants to be reasonable. If they don't want to play ball, then you may have to fight it legally.

        • Costco recently informed me they do not offer any 5 year money back warranty anymore as too many people supposedly abused the system.

          • @eeeee: Which location? I was in Costco Auburn and got confirmed that they still offer 5-year warranty. I was ready to pay but i can't fit the TV into my car.
The good guys ebay promotion save me $300 so I am happy

      • +4

7/8 years? Ha. I'd like to see that. 3 to 5 i think is closer to the mark unless its some top end expensive thing.

        • +3

I bought a tv for my dad roughly 6 yrs ago that they replaced with a current model cause it had spots on the screen. It was a 3d model and replaced it with a series 8 (dad had the option of curve or no curve too) so it does happen

          • @princess_nik_nak: Well done. Hats off to you! I wish i could of done the same, i had a sammy plasma in a similar situation but i bought it just before the legislation came into effect.

  • Bought one of these for my parents on ebay 20% off for $808.00 delivered.

I was concerned that the "old" smart TV OS might be a bit clunky and slow (not that my parents watch anything other than free to air) and impinge on operation. Not a concern - no startup delay etc.

    Pic quality appears good.

If you want brand name decent quality large real estate for a modest cost this is hard to beat.

i would say even higher end "Smart TV" are still slow and dumb
you are always better off with a nvidia shield or Apple TV or something.

actually now i wish they make "dumb TV" which just give us a good OLED Screen with some HDMI ports and nothing else, hopefully that means they can be cheaper :)

      • They won't be cheaper.

      • Samsungs UI is pretty quick and very easy to use / connect to network

        • i normally choose what i want to watch on my phone youtube/netflix then cast to the nvidia shield as i find thats the easiest especially when i need to type, and i carry my phone around the house, not remote.

my mate got one of those LG OLED with a supposedly fast UI and let you use remote as mouse pointer, I still find it inferior to Shield in terms of speed and ease of use.

But that's just me, i'm sure most people will be fine with just a Smart TV and i agree that Samsung UI is fairly easy to use

          • +1

@cheapobargainer: No TV will compete with the shield in terms of speed. The chip inside the shield (tegra X1) is like complete overkill to run android tv in terms of raw power. That's why it's so snappy and never breaks a sweat. It's also what's inside the nintendo switch FYI.

In terms of TV interfaces though, high end LG and samsung TV's are quite decent.

I got this TV in January from Harvey Norman for a list price of $895 which went down to $716 with the AMEX offer.

For the price, the image quality is quite good. The sound is a bit weak and tinny, but reasonable. The smart TV function has no noticeable lag, and is so much better than my previous Sony Bravia TV which had you waiting 20-30 seconds before you could even change channels properly.

All in all, this is a really good value TV.

    • Does it come with the Magic remote (wiimote type controller) or just a normal controller?

      • I have a smaller 43" LG 4K tv with the magic remote, and it works surprisingly well!

      • Nope

    • Most low end TV's have crappy speakers, it's a trade-off for the price.

  • +1

This or Hisense 65P6. I know Hisense is more expensive but it has a bigger screen. My budget is under $1000.

edit: Also, just to get an idea, how does compare with Sony KD60X6700E, which I already own?

  • I'm in the market for a nice tv. It will be for the main lounge room.
My only main requests from a tv is good quality image. Can someone confirm it has this?

      • +5

        Wow. You're thirsty.

        • -3

Nop. Merely just a compliment. Nothing else!

          • @ashftc: That's weird. You just commented on their looks, and ignored the question.
            Kinda creepy.

          • +1

@ashftc: Desperate white knight lol. She’s not gonna (profanity) you

    • +2

Thanks everyone lol. I ended up purchasing it :)

  • -2

Apologies if my comment was offensive

  • This or Samsung Series 7 NU7100??

    • +1

I’d say this. I have a nu7100 and find it average at best. UI is great though

    • Always LG as it has far better viewing angles. Unless you care directly in front of the Samsung, everything has that faded ghostly image. Blacks are a little better on Samsung.

Bought this TV 30th DEC 2019 - Good TV

where can I get the smart remote with this TV? anyone?

    • +14

When did you invent time travel?? Is it cheaper then? should we wait??

  • anyone know if this can connect via wifi ?

    • Its a smart TV. So Yes. I went to TGG today to actually look at it. Pretty decent TV. Great compred to the price

  • Sorry to ask, but does anyone know the distance between the standing feet? My entertainment unit might a too small for it .. lol

    • I went in store to check it out for this reason specifically. It's around 122-125cm apart.

  • +1

Bought one - screen is very nice - only downside is the very sharp/high pitch sound - even configuring it I wasn’t able to to change it (music profile setting seems to be the best) - otherwise can’t complain too much at the price

    • That’s good to know that you have a positive experience. I visited TGG to have a look at it before I buy but given too many options I got confused if I should buy or wait for a better model to come down around that price.
