    • Just based on my understanding the Matebook X Pros were considered to be great value because they entered the US Market with low introductory prices. In addition I think Dell products are pretty expensive over there, compared to what we pay here.

As an aside I bought both an XPS 13 and a Matebook X Pro and I had to return the XPS 13 due to defective parts (in addition to it being a worse machine).

    • I agree, I feel like they are now where Hyundai/Kia was when they finally got to the same level of quality and styling as Japanese cars. For a long time, Korean cars were trash with not much tech, not much style but over time they've gotten better and better and can now compete with even some European cars.

    • unless you're the ambassador to the UN or someone who works with information they'd be interested in - you're probably going to be fine

Seriously? "Wow, it's such an awesome product! I know there is a backdoor, and my data could leak to China, but I'm just a fkn loser, they probably won't be interested in my stuff. Yeah, probably…"

    • I have a huawei mate 20 pro and it's the bomb. As for my laptop. I got a hp spectre for $1560,i7-8550u, 8gb ram, 512gb ssd, 1080p screen. Got mine around Easter last year.

Huawei has reputation of deceiving customers, claims say that their cameras wasn't actually made by Leica or even designed by Leica but made by Sunny Optical Technology. I had P9 with so called Leica camera, the screen quality was horrible in terms of longevity in comparison, fell down on a yoga mat and broke my screen but might be good now but for a laptop it doesn't need as much elegance than creating a phone in my opinion but my experience was not very good.

The concern wasn't Huawei censoring western users but "if/when the Chinese government want it to do so it won't refuse". It's not about Huawei, it's about the Chinese government. Again, executing a Canadian offender in China is a response to the U.S. extradition. It's not about Canada. Politicians like to pick the weaker targets to make a scene of.

  • Ouch, I bought the i5 for $1840 a week ago. I originally purchase a 13'' MacBook Pro with Touchbar, took it back because OSX didn't work as well as I'd hoped at work, and I was just too precious about it getting knocked, or the keyboard breaking or the screen cable flexing. Anyway, this really is a great laptop, the screen is beautiful, the keyboard is great and the trackpad works better than any windows laptop I've used (tiny rattle). If you're in the market, I'd go for it.

Lots of comparisons to the XPS13, which is known to be a great laptop. In my opinion the 3:2 makes this vastly superior if you need to be productive without an external monitor.

As for security, IF the Chinese government did want to spy on me, they'd be bored stiff.

  • I wonder what servicing and warranty is like on these devices.

  • Not usre if this break any rules. But for those interested. I can buy Microsoft gift cards for 15% off.

    • Nice +1

    • PM'd

    • Is there a limit to the amount of gift cards that can be used in one transaction?

      • Can redeem up to $1000 per day.

  • I'm in the market for a dell XPS13 but these specs are no joke!

    Are these Hauwei's legit?

    • I think the XPS13 is priced cheaper than the Matebook X Pro for equivalent specs. Where the XPS gets more expensive if you spec it with a higher resolution screen that the MXP has.

  • If the Chinese government was caught spying using Huawei tech, the company would be severely damaged and I don't think anyone in China wants that. Seriously, all data on the Internet is public domain, you only post what you are happy to share. If you want to hide information, store it offline.

I would rate security with Huawei to be as safe as that of Google. Would I trust either company with very personal information, not really but you have to juggle security with convenience. As we say back in the old days, Information wants to be free.

  • Does anyone know if it comes with the Huawei MateDock included?

If not, can any recommend a good USB-C dock that works this the Matebook X Pro?

    • +1

      Yes the MateDock is included.

  • Thoughts anyone, this vs Razer Blade Stealth Early 2018 Model:

    i7-8550U
    16GB RAM
    512GB SSD

for $1.5k, which would be $200 cheaper than the matebook i5 model

    • Razer blade seems like a nice alternative, however the MateBooks screen is a stand out feature in comparison to the Razers. Better aspect ratio, better brightness, higher resolution, smaller bezels. It's glorious to use.

      • yeah thats true but do you reckon it would be worth it forgoing the performance of razer?

        • You'll have to decide what's more important for your needs, but for me the answer is an obvious yes as it's primarily my work machine with some light gaming (Civ 6 etc). The small performance benefits over the Razer aren't worth the downgrade in screen quality/size imo.

Got a link to the Razer in case I'm seeing the wrong specs?
