In case anyone was wondering, the First State Auctions website states that they are

Australia’s leading jewellery auction house specialising in fine jewellery, watches and gemstones.

These offers stink. If they don’t bring back the hotel and qantas offers it’ll be time to cancel the card.

Good. Less of you means more for us.

      • +5

Less AmEx users means less negotiating power for AmEx which in turn negatively affects you. So drop the smart arse attitude.

        • +2

AMEX's "negotiating power" won't move an inch if 30,000 cards were cancelled tomorrow nationwide.

Like I said, feel free to cancel your AMEX if you don't see any benefit out of it, but even once-a-year offers are better than nothing. Plus, in instances where I'm already using card to pay for goods or services, I like to get something for it. I'm sure everyone does.

@[Deactivated]: That attitide is what allows multinationals to walk all over us. Because they know that you'll just accept whatever bull shit they throw your way.

            • +1

@[Deactivated]: Mate, weren't you the dude who basically said you dont give a shit about anything, let alone incredible waste and environmental damage for the sake of saving a buck? That is exactly the kind of capitlistic attitude that multinationals thrive on. Check your own attitude before you critic others.

              • @cloudy: Yeh, I definitely don't give a shit about using prime for a $2 item if it saves me $. I know that's what they survive on, but it doesn't benefit me. I support what benefits me, and people acting like receiving a good rebate offer once a year is acceptable doesn't benefit me. So I called it out.

With the imminent nerfing of the rewards points I’m seriously considering ditching my Amex come the end of the year… not seeing much for the annual fee to be honest

    • +2

I'll cancel my platinum edge when its annual fee is due. It's losing its appeal after devaluation, which is a shame. Will use free amex cards for these type of cashback deals.

      • I've stopped spending on my card with Ascent since this devaluation was announced. Using the Westpac black amex for everything and will cancel it as the annual fee becomes due, need to remember to set up an outlook reminder.

          The altitude?

          • @Spending2Much: Yes, this came with the 120k QFF points, still got about 6 months before annual fee kicks in.

            • @megadeth: Which card are you going to use once you cancel the Plat Edge & Westpac Altitude?

              • @Gaz1: NAB Qantas Platinum still kept back from the NAB home loan days (they offered to keep it open fee free when I left NAB home loan). It was originally part of the package ($395 annual fee).

    • Did the same with my explorer last month. Was hoping that it would be a long term card but with the devaluation coming up and the deals as of late, the appeal isn't there anymore.

    • I suggest you and others to do that to send a message to Amex. I am going to cancel my cards on 15/04 as well.

Just what I needed with Tradelink (I need bathroom fittings), now if Tradelink can do a decent deal, some savings can be had.

  • +4

Woo-hoo, the last time I spent $300 at Tradelink was never!

Ha ha… I think 99% ozbargainers can relate with this post.
