Good for after the happy hour and you have to drive.

Or maybe don't drive if you've been drinking…

      Correct.
I am far from a prude, and very much enjoy a drink, but I don't find it difficult to make a decision ahead of time about how I will be getting home, and behave accordingly.

  • Cheaper on ebay via Catch

  • IIRC all breathalysers need yearly calibration.
    Calibration is not cheap.
Meaning that portable units are barely worthwhile as anything but a rough indicator. And a rough indicator doesn't hurt to have, but is probably not that useful.

    • It used to cost $25 at anandtech but now I think its gone up a little bit.

  • +1

Calibration is about $45 + postage and needs to be done regularly (every 6 months at a minimum). Not really worth it.

    • Or flog it off on Gumtree every 12 months and get a new unit?

      • +3

gumtree people are not smart enough to understand the difference between this and a $5 device.

      • +1

Maybe that was a joke, but if it wasn't you're a remarkably selfish tool.

If you need one of these it's probably time you consider giving up drinking alcohol, you have a problem.

    • +1

      How does that make sense?

If I go to a restaurant and get a drink that has alcohol in it, that alone can be enough to be me over the limit for a certain amount of time.

Its hard to know how much alcohol are in drinks you order.

Isn't it the OzBargain way to drink at home anyway?

    • +2

And a true OzBargainer will be drinking their own homebrew as well.

BACTrack have tested to be a lot more accurate (because it uses fuel cells rather than semiconductor sensors)

    I have a BACTrack S80 Pro and it's great! https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/182626738281

And they're currently 20% off on eBay with PRIORITY coupon!!

    https://pages2.ebay.com.au/Buyer_coupons/priority

(no affliation with BACTrack. It's just a good product!)

    • Thanks mate!
      How about the calibration process?
I've read many people complaining about that…
Have you had/used it for a long time?

      • +1

I've had it for about a year.

Send it back to "Breathalyser Australia" (distributor) for calibration - eBay store seems to be the official distributor. Calibration is $55

        https://breathalysers-australia.com.au/information/breathaly…

Once you purchase a breathalyser from Breathalysers Australia we will track the units serial number and run it through our calibration monitoring >program. This will trigger us to send you an email to remind you as the unit becomes due for recalibration so you don’t have to worry about missing the >time frame.

For electrochemical fuel cell sensors; BACtrack S80 Pro, BACtrack Mobile Pro, and BACtrack Trace Pro the cost is $55 inc GST. This also includes airway <servicing and the pickup and return courier to and from Newcastle, NSW.

        • +3

          $55/year for re-calibration
I can get a carton of beer for that
