Touch-and-pay bank cards or various ID cards are very convenient in using but also very vulnerable to remote theft. Many people use protection sleeve, but this protection card is a better solution. Shopnotch is now only selling it at half price $4.9 plus $1 postage.

$6 to cover what banks cover for free if something happens does not seem like much of a deal.

    • The bank might cover un-authorized spending after you find out, but might not be able to protect your personal data from theft stored in various cards.

      • What kind of personal data are stored on various cards? Can you be specific instead of just “name, address”, giving out an example of the card.

        • Some club membership cards or ePassports also store personal address, date of birth, and other data, depends on their own requirement. The application of RFID/NFC technology is just started, more and more you will see them around and we have to face it with no choice. Even your hotel entry card.

@JamesG8: RFID and NFC store unique numbers with few smarts behind them other than that required to ensure that they're being read properly. The real smarts are in the back end systems that tie the ID of the card back to your personal details that are stopped in the database.

If you're going to sell something and try to use fear of an event as a factor, make sure you're not talking rubbish.

@banana365: You are saying all the personal data stored/related is not remotely readable? If you're going to say something rubbish, freedom of speech.

  • My leather wallet blocks cards and it's not sold as a security device.

Nfc can only work if it is mm away. You may see some scare mongering fake demo that it can be read at arms length so to drum up business.

Someone will make a way that amplifies the signal or reception or something just watch.. there is always a way something something reverse arms race or whatever etc.

Someone […] something […] something something

You have a great point, man!

Please share your wisdom next time too.

        • Thanks sorry was just vomiting out words but what I think I was trying to say was this safety measure might prevent something not even out there doing damage yet.

As with the neverending race of cops and robbers so is the race of your money vs a modern thief.

But yeah still early days and if it ever became a major widespread problem the tentative arms race of digital thieves vs the digital guards will always save us hopefully before it gets too late.

          Wisdom shared.

  • If you are really worried by people skimming NFC capable credit cards and never want to use contactless payment, use a hole puncher to put a hole on the short end away from the chip like this (borrow one from Officeworks if you don't have one). Doing this chops off a part of the NFC antenna and renders the PayPass/PayWave chip useless while retaining the functionality of the chip and magnetic strip.
