Thanks. Found some cheapies to San Fran using your links too

  • I'm looking for flights for Mar/Apr 2020. When should I start hunting for deals?

    • Depends where to - to LAX as well? Deals tend to be 3-9 months out, depending on events and the like. You can also sign up for alerts on some sites for the routes/dates you want.

  • Need a flight to Hawaii, then crusing to mainland, then flight back home.

Anyone got ideas how to make a return flight to LA,San Francisco, NYC work (worth flying to LA, then a connector to Hawaii..big effort), or a stopover in Hawaii and not take the next leg (but I would think that would cancel the return leg later?)

    • any leg you don't take, you lose all remaining legs of the ticket. Definitely don't do that.
You could try a return ticket from SYD to HNL, another return from HNL to LAX and a return from LAX to NYC, or 3 one ways from HNL to NYC to LAX? Would take some playing.

    • Because of the routes you want, and which airlines do them, I'd say you're likely best off with
      1) a multi-city return SYD-HNL, and NYC-SYD with Qantas
      2) take the train LA-SFO (or drive)
      3) domestic flight SFO-NYC (Separate ticket)

      • Cheers. Will be going to NYC from vancouver or calgary. Not fussed about LA, San Fran, just thought it might be cheaper to dep from LA.

  • Is there ever deals to other cities like Detroit?

  • Any fall within the school holidays?
