If you have missed out last weekend's Lenovo sale, here is another one this week — and sorry for posting another Lenovo offer as they have just released ThinkPad Edge E420 together with this offer, which I have been waiting for.

Use coupon code THINKHOTDEAL at check out for the following discount:

  • 8% off all ThinkPads
  • 15% off all ThinkPads when you spend $1000
  • 20% off all ThinkPads when you spend $1200
  • 30% off all ThinkPads when you spend $2000

Ends Friday May 13. Note that $1200 seems to be a sweet spot so I'll try to aim that.

ThinkPad Edge E420 has also been released. It's a nice 14" notebook for those of us who think 15.6" is way too big. Weights 2.1kg with 6-cell battery, and features chiclet style keyboard that has the same spring action as the regular ThinkPad keyboard. Here is their product information. And here is a system that I might be getting:

  • ThinkPad E420
  • Intel Core i7-2620M Processor (2.70GHz, 4MB L3,1333MHz FSB) with Intel Turbo Boost Technology up to 3.4GHz
  • Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit)
  • 14.0" W HD (1366x768) AntiGlare, Midnight Black
  • AMD Mobility Radeon HD 6630 Switchable (1GB VRAM)
  • 4 GB PC3-10600 DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz SODIMM Memory (1 DIMM)
  • 500GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm
  • DVD Recordable
  • 9 Cell Li-Ion Battery
  • ThinkPad 2x2 a/b/g/n
  • 720p HD Camera
  • 1 Year Depot/Express Warranty
  • AU$971.20 after discount

A relatively portable 14" with i7-2620M, Radeon HD 6630 dedicated graphics and 9-cell battery for under $1,000.

Do note that extra warranty is separated from the notebook itself — you actually see two separate item on your credit card statement. It is also not included in the calculation of discount.

  • Thought they have a sale on for mother's day weekend?

  • they did

  • Hey guys,

Looking at buying a laptop soon and Lenovo might be the way to go. I have a question though.. how come there is an 'option' to select a power adaptor to charge the batteries? Huh?

    • People like to carry around adapters or have one at home and one at the office. Also if you use an ultrabase, you might want one always connected to it for convenience.

      • So they do supply at least one right? :)

Also, why would you need to have more than one WLAN adaptors? Sorry for being a noob :D

  • Hmmm I was going to grab an Ideapad Y460P when I'm over in the US (they're around $770ish after coupons and currency conversion) but this is tempting. Can anyone comment on how Thinkpad Edge build quality stacks up against Ideapad?

  • Is the extra warranty compulsory?

  • E420 vs. E520.. which one is better?

Do you need to add-on for bluetooth?

    • E420 vs. E520.. which one is better?

Personally I prefer a 14" and would never need a numpad on a laptop. So E420 for me.

Do you need to add-on for bluetooth?

Yes you can add on Bluetooth if you need it.

    • The resolution of the display is driving me mad. Why can't they provide a FullHD panel?

  • Hi, just double check, is Intel Core i3-2310M Processor sandy bridge processor?
It has 4 digit numbers 2310 so I assume yes, please let me know.

Also, is it worth it to pay $60 extra for discrete graphic AMD Mobility Radeon HD 6630 Switchable (1GB VRAM)?

    I am looking E420 i3.

    Thanks.

    • Anything starting with 2 is Sandy Bridge. The 2310M is the slowest mobile cpu at 2.1Ghz and it's greatly handicapped by not having a turbo mode. The 2410M can turbo up to 2.9Ghz however the Lenovo specs leave out this turbo mode when describing their 2410M models, which means it's possible they've decided to not use this feature, which would be suck hard. This means you may have to go up to a 2520M processor to have a turbo mode for your cpu.

Also my opinion is that any discrete graphics is an utter waste of money and battery power unless you're planning to game a reasonable amount. One of the major features of Sandy Bridge is the integrated graphics so if you buy a discrete graphics card you're throwing money away and substantially lowering battery life for very little benefit unless you game.

  • Hi scotty, thanks for the post.

AMD Mobility Radeon HD 6630 Switchable (1GB VRAM)

Is it automatic or manual switch?

    • I would think manual. Switchable graphics is manual, but nVidia's Optimus is automatic.

However things may have changed. Don't quote me on it :p

  • Shame about no usb 3.0

  • T420s has USB 3.0, but I'm not sure if the price is Ozbargain-worthy even after 30% off.

    • For T-series, definitely buy from the States as you'll probably get them for 50% off the RRP here. For Edge/L/SL series, I think it is fine to buy from Australia as the price would be more competitive here.

      • What do you think of ASUS U36JC? Should I buy from US or is it possible to get a competitive price here?

  • I bought ideapad y560P of twice the price 2 months back !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Mmmm can't seem to get 20% off no matter what combination I try… Max out at 8%

    Shifty shifty

    • called lenovo.. discount % is dependent on price of individual packaged laptop, rather than say an order of 3 laptops totaling $2000 getting you 30% off

  • 500GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm

Be careful when upgrading to a 7200rpm HDD as it delays the shipping times from 8 days to 2-3 weeks :(

I like this Thinkpad E520 model for $904.40 (after 15% discount)

    • Intel Core i7-2620M Processor
    • Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit)
    • 15.6" W HD (1366x768) Anti-Glare, Midnight Black
    • AMD Mobility Radeon 1GB
    • 4 GB PC3-10600 DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz SODIMM Memory (1 DIMM)
    • Keyboard - US English
    • UltraNav with Fingerprint Reader
    • 720p HD Camera
    • 500GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm
    • DVD Recordable
    • 9 Cell Li-Ion Battery
    • Broadcom Bluetooth 3.0 with antenna
    • ThinkPad 2x2 a/b/g/n
    • UPGRADED WARRANTY 3 years express repair

Just not happy with no USB3.0 and the screen resolution could be full HD (like the Sony Vaio 15.5 VPCCB15FG from Harvey Norman http://www.harveynorman.com.au/product/1256975372390/sony-va…)

Tossing up between a Lenovo and a Sony.
Not sure that a Full HD screen is worth an extra $150.

  • +2

I am sure many would hate this… But just got a new email from Lenovo, which I WON'T post as another offer. But here you go:

    Coupon code: BUDGETBUSTER

    • 10% off* all ThinkPad laptops
    • 20% off* all Thinkpads laptops when configuration is $1000
    • 30% off* all Thinkpads laptops when configuration is $1800
    • 35% off* all Thinkpads laptops when configuration is $2200

Ends this Sunday (15 May). That means you can get 20% off discount just above $1,000 rather than configure to $1,200.
